    Delorme InReach

Love mine. Used it in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Alaska. I don't have the one with mapping. It is pretty limited and I rather use my onXmap. Plans are easy to turn on and off. They do charge to start up each time but it is worth it since I only use mine six months a year. I use their freedom plan. One off my Colorado trips, I met a elk hunter who had a popular sat phone and was having problems talking to his wife. Used my inreach with no issues. I like how people can follow your progress by mapping your texts on google earth.

    Hornady eld-x

Picked up a couple of boxes of Hornady's 6.5 143 eld-x for Courtney's 264 win mag. Was wondering if anyone here has tried these bullets and what was their opinion of them? Brent

    Hornady eld-x

My browning a bolt is 30 years old. It has a three shot clip magazine. A clip. Save your "laugh your butt" off comments for your friends. The post was about building a single shot rifle which is not what I what I want for my daughter. I was hoping someone had a idea about how much of a jump the eld-x likes. Glad you can use google

    Hornady eld-x

What bergers are you shooting? I am looking for a hunting load for Court's 264 win mag. The browning clip is short and 140 bergers hybrids I am shooting seem to want to be a couple thousands longer than the clip. Loading them to fit the clip opens up my best groups. It shoots 140 amax good at the right length but I don't have enough of them. In my quest to find more, I found two boxes of the eld-x's. Haven't gotten to shoot them, but what seems interesting is that they just shy of touching the lands when loaded to fit the clip. I loaded some with a .015 jump. We will see how they shoot. Brent

    Bow and Arrow

I can't be the only one... Bow and Arrow was one of my favorite magazines out there. Joe Bell did a great job of covering some of the tree stand whitetail stuff with a lot of the western hunting. It was a surprise when they closed their doors. I just paid for a three subscription and had 26 issues left. I got a letter explaining the deal and the offer to fill the remaining issues with one of the "mentioned" new magazines. I can't remember which one I picked. Some survival mag. I haven't gotten a issue. Did anyone else get left with issues on the table? Brent

    Wtt 6.5/.264 130 gr berger hunting vld's

Are looking for new unopened boxes. We shot a 1-9 twist on a 264 win mag for years. I have a lot of partial boxes of different 100 to 130 grain bullets. I will get you a list of what I have when I get home if you would like. I would be willing to trade Brent
  10. Got Courtney's 264 win mag back from Craig's custom rifles of Tucson. Craig did a awesome job and we can't wait to get it to the range. It was built on a browning A-bolt action which was my first gun I bought with my own money 30 years ago. He blue printed the action and mated it to a Brux #4 heavy sporter barrel 1-8 in the 264 win mag. Put on a Terminator T1 brake and cerakoted the whole thing in graphite black. He fitted it all to the Richard Microfit psychedelic stock that had already been shaped. Top it of with a sightron SIII 6.5-24x50 scope. We put on a atlas bipod quick disconnect. It weighs 11.3 pounds. It looks awesome. A perfect woman's gun.

    Courtney's 264 win mag

First of all. The gun shoots like a dream. I like to say that I have three generations of Craig's custom rifles. A 7 wsm on a winchester model 70 action that he built when he just started. A 6.5 creedmoor that is built on a savage 10 action built a few years later. And of course Courtney's 264 win mag. They all shoot great but Craig out did himself on Court's gun. He says it is the terminator T1 break. The first couple of shots, I had to look at the cases to make sure I was shooting a 264. Courtney's gun was a semi custom with a break before Craig got a hold of it; but dang, does it shoot comfortable now. Shot about 35 rounds to break in the barrel. Three Points as always had a little wind that morning. Cases were new to the gun. Three of the loads were loaded for Court's old barrel 1-9 twist but re seated deeper for the new chamber. Shot the 120 sierra's first and 130 nosler accubonds second. I used the 130's as a fouling shot after cleaning between every group I really like the long range accubonds but Craig said his experience with them isn't the best. He predicted that I would have one flyer and I did. This is the only bullet I shot touching the lands. Liked the 140 hybrid's the best. Will tweak the loads and seating depth. Should be able to find something a little more accurate. It was 40 degrees with wind. I was wearing two sweat shirts. I know the gun will do better. Brent

    Courtney's 264 win mag

We built it to shoot 140's. Craig likes the berger 140 hybrids is his other 6.5's. I only have only experience with the hunting vlds. I loaded some hybrids and some nosler 142 lrabs today. I also have on hand 140 amax and 140 nosler ballistic tips as wells a whole assortment of different 130's I could try. Going to try to go to the range this week. Brent

    Old school

Went old school and wrote a check for my antelope draw. It still isn't cashed yet. I dropped it off at the office in Tucson. Anyone else still waiting for a check to be cashed? Brent

    I DREW A TAG!!

I meant logging boots with spikes. We called cork boots. Might be spelled differently. Kind of like golf shoes but way more aggressive. You can walk up the dead falls, etc. It is very wet and very slick. We hunted with those type of boots a lot. Obviously, it is what loggers were in that country while logging

    I DREW A TAG!!

I grew up in Southeast Alaska and have hunted everything in Alaska but the elk. They were planted after I came south. Everything that 308nut said about the weather and conditions are very true. But honestly every fall is different and you will have a blast. Sadly , we never even spent much time hunting blacktail early October because the frost has already killed the vegetation in the alpine and everything has moved off into the deep timber. Pretty hard to hunt until there is some snow cover. I sure it is the same for the elk. Snow drives them closer to the beach and makes tracking awesome fun. One of the things that has kept me from doing any kind of "fly in type of hunt" is that my work schedule is not very forgiving and getting stuck because of weather for days is a real issue that time of year in southeast Alaska. One of the other tricks that helps is to hunt with logging cork boots. I have a pair of extratuff rubber boots with corks and they work great that time of year. You can get leather boots with them also. Good Luck Brent

    Draw

We decided that we were using paper this year due to the mess of the spring draw. I decided to try the system out with Court's antelope app because we were just buying a point. Filled out the app using Chrome and after I hit the payment button I got "this is un-bearable" you reached the page in error. Page asks "Start again"? Learning from the mistakes of last draw, I check my card and there is no pending charges. I am afraid to try again being worried that I will end up with multiple charges. In the fall, I was able to use firefox and get it to work just fine after running up duplicate charges using chrome unknown to me. Anyone try the draw yet and if so, did it work for you? I wish they would get this right Brent

    Draw

While trying to take a nap, I decided to try again. This time I bought her hunting license by itself; printed it; checked her account; and checked my credit card. All good. Went back and did her antelope bonus point. Again, no problems. Got a email confirmation and a charge on my card. What the heck, I rolled the dice and did her elk draw. Worked as planned. Mailing in mine since the check is wrote but it seems if you don't draw and do both at the same time, it works. Used Google Chrome. Brent

Just tried it with firefox and got the same "this is un-bearable" "try again" what a joke! Brent

    New Mexico Antelope

You do get a refund. You must request a refund for the license if not drawn. Don't forget to check that box. Unless you want a New Mexico hunting license. Great thing is I have never had any problems with the New Mexico draw system. Not one. Brent

    New Mexico Antelope

I have been trying for eight years with no luck so far. The nice part is it pure luck. No points. I believe 10% goes to non residents and that 10% is broken down to half to those who have a outfitter and half to hunters on their own. A lot of New Mexico tags are in units where you are told what ranch you are to hunt and I believe the ranchers dictate when you can scout and what location you are to hunt on their ranch. I have drawn New Mexico deer tags where I was trying to get one of two tags so it does happen. You just have to try. You also have to pay up front the whole amount for the tag and license before the draw. Good luck, Brent

    WTB sightron 6-24x50

Amazon had them for $650 for the second focal plane over xmas. I bought two of them. SWFA was selling them thru amazon cheaper than their own website. I saw one for $735 on Amazon this morning but different seller. Brent
