Some Awesome Trail cam video of elk

Very cool Amanda! Turned out great, thank you! Jamey checked the cams last weekend and we are getting a couple new Bulls, one good one with some extra trash sticking out the side. We'll be there this weekend checking em again. Looking forward to my early Archery Bull Elk hunt up there starting in less than three weeks I see a few shooters so far that I have my heart set on, and definitely the newest one that has rolled in...... C'mon September!

a question for you treestand hunters

My rule of thumb is for a steep downhill shot use a pin less and for a steep uphill use a pin more. So out of a stand steep down hill 45 yard shot I'll use my 35 yard pin. Of course still have to compensate shot placement on the body for the arrow to exit it's proper location from angles and animals position. The best advice is to take a few shots from your stand or off your roof at different yardages and see. I take it from your question you had the shot at forty yards, used your forty and blew over his back?

Where did all of the Turkey go above Payson?

I was thinking the same thing until I saw my trail cams. The extra snow had me worried but the turkeys came thru with flying colors. I talked with the game wardens and they also had the same concerns but the turkeys are doing just fine. Believe me,I've seen alot over the last couple days to tell me it's going to be a banner year. TJ Well that cetainly is not my case. For the last 8 weeks I have checked my trails cams 6 times. Only 2 birds total and 1 bird each time (total 2 of 8 game cam sightings). Only 1 sighting of just the 1 bird in the same area, same time so I assume maybe same bird. After January, virtually nothing Have been up there last three weekends in a row and no sightings nor trail cam pics........ As far as a banner year lucky dog.... Please send me your coordinates and I will be happy to verify your findings first hand right after I tag my Whitetail. I was getting plenty of these before the heavy snow.....

    Wyoming draw results

We only had 2 preference points each. I think the draw odds were like 11% last year and that is with 3 points so I assumed our odds would have been even lower. I was sure surprised to get drawn for our first choice, definitely didn't plan on it. I was also drawn for the early Bull here in AZ so I am gonna have a busy month. This Antelope hunts runs Sept. 4-30 and the Bull is Sept 10-23, so we need to figure out how we are gonna do this..... I guess it's a good problem to have though. It was just the regular draw. Sounds like you'll have a great hunt as well, in a good area. How many points did you have?

We drew a unit 61 tag. Supposed to be a unit with little hunter numbers and great bucks. This will be our first year, can't wait.
  9. Just wanted to share my H.A.M. hunt on the weekend of Feb. 5th 2010 ***I have shortened this into 2 videos now, cut a few minutes out mainly in the end. I tried to get it under 10 minutes, I trimmed as much as I could while documenting the hunt the best I could start to finish. Not sure just how much more I can cut it except for maybe a couple minutes after the hit, but if you're still watching at that point then you'll probably have enough interest to finish it out.*** I have had troubles with this gun in particular since I got it a few months ago. Every time I shot it I would have the rear sights adjusted one way or the other. Every time I left for the day the gun was shooting straight. Next time I'd go out the gun would shoot a foot left or right at 100 yards. My buddy doesn't call me "warning shot Williams" for nothing as you'll see! I really wanted this to be a 100 yards gun just in case, but instead it was a 50 max gun. After the first morning and my luck I shot the gun a bunch for a few hours and decided I'd have to get within 35 yards max, to make a decent shot. Didn't get a shot that evening. Couldn't find pigs the 2nd morning so I went and shot my gun for a couple more hours. The gun now was shooting 4"-5" high and 8-10" right at only 50 yards! Did some 1 shot drills for a couple of hours and got the left/right centered and knew where I'd need to hold for height. I now was confident enough to take a shot up to 50 yards. I had more chances and opportunities than an individual should get throughot this hunt! Not that I was complaining one bit, but I have gone 5 days a few times without ever seeing a pig. This all made for a very fun and exciting hunt, but an incredibly frustrating one as well. And no this is not a Murse (man purse), satchel, eurpoean carry all, man bag, etc..... , as a buddy likes to call them. This is my first attempt at editing and making a hunting video. It is pretty long but I shortened it a ton. I am pretty bummed because we filmed this in High Def 1080i and it looks amazing on my tv directly from the camera, but I haven't been able to get that high quality to import into my software properly so I had to degrade the video down to Mpeg-2, 480. The 480 looks ok on my computer but terrible on Youtube, especially with all the green screen flickers, not sure what that's about? Upload problems??? Any ways, I hope you all enjoy. Since this is my first attempt and not really a clue I will welcome all advice and opinions as long as they are constructive. I'd love to hear from the guys who edit quite a bit, I need to advice and practice. I have a few more hunts I need to edit and put together soon. I know this video is waaay to long. I was trying to get it under 10 minutes, but still try to show the hunt start to finish. Guess I'll just have to trim and trim. I had to break it up into 3 sections because it was so long. Make sure to watch them in order, hopefully it can keep your interest, I know I personally can lose interest after just a few minutes...... Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy the hunt. We got after the Javelina pretty quick and I forgot my camera in my truck. We had to take these pics with the video cam and turned out so so. Here are a couple of pan chargers that a gentleman made for me that shoots at a blackpowder club I shot at. I had him make me the small one for this hunt to use in the field. With the additional pieces I made a patch knife. I'll make powder measures out of the others. Here is the antler to give you an idea of what came from where. This was from a shed I picked up last year on a shed hunt. Here is my gun that has driven me nuts! I think I am just going to have to buy a new barrel for it and start over, sure is pretty though. And last... my Javelina Skull I boiled up and whitened. It was my first one but turned out pretty well, good practice at least

    Spring Gobbler

Well great job on low hunters and game until next year (2011). They got got greedy I guess...... Took lessons for the AZGFD apparantly.... Up until this year there were 150 tags for units A,B, and C, total combined, now this next year (2011) they have 150 tags for unit A, 150 tags for unit B, and 150 tags for and unit C (totaling) 450 tags. They just up and decided to TRIPLE THE TAGS BECAUSE THEY COULD. We have hunted up there for the last 4 years but because of this we won't any longer. $245.00 is an aweful lot to pay for a Turkey, especially when they triple the amount of tags that we have been used to. My buddy and I both took 10 3/4" bearded Turkey out of there this year, but this is the last year because of their greed. I hate to be a pessimist, good luck to all that apply next year.

    another deer killer

Great job Mike, what a pritty kitty! Have been waiting for my 1st for bout 23 years, came close last year though. Would love to see the mount when it's finished.
  16. Hey Joe, I have two or three partial hunts but no kills. Have about 7 days this year of me talking to the camera while sitting in my tree with not much action on the video camera besides Turkey, doe, and a spike. The closest thing I have to a Coues kill on Camera is a miss I had due to my crosshairs or something on my scope moving somehow and shot about 16" high at only 100 yards! I found out that it was moving after I missed my 2nd Coues with that gun, man I was MAD....
  17. Thanks guys, had a lot of fun making the video as well as putting it all together. I would love to make video's, I really wanted to film my last 2 but couldn't get my buddy out there, had a chance to film his last year but he decided killing was more important than trying to get it on film once we started the stalk and I was behind him with the camera.... We had been talking about this and trying for the last couple of years and it finally worked out. Now I am excited to put a few more hunts together that I've filmed, this was the first Javi hunt though.

    My dads Pig from 2-12-10

Great Job!!! Tell him congrats, that is too cool. That looks like a Remmy New Army 1858 .44 cal.? Came close to using mine last year, that is a TON of fun. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Hello, my name is Christian and I am excited to share some information on a product that I have developed. It is called the Range Snap. The initial development of my product was to bring my range finder within inches of my eye so I always had quick and easy access to it in that split second when needed with minimal movement. As everyone knows, it is not always easy to get to your Range Finder when you need it. You can’t use the lanyard with your binoculars because it swings and hits your binoculars. Some people wear it differently or keep it in their shirt pocket. But it is not as accessible as it should be, I have tried. My product attaches to your Range Finder and will snap to your binocular strap, backpack strap on any other thin piece of material. The Range Finder snaps on the front of your shoulder so you only have to move your hand and Range Finder just a few inches so you can use it. It comes with a secure strap that goes around your Range Finder and strap. This keeps your Range Finder from flopping around while hiking, running, crawling or any other vigorous movement. It has a quick disconnect so it slides right off. You can put your bow in front of you to camouflage your movement and get that quick Range when needed. The reason that I do not have a Bull Elk that was pushing 400” on my wall was because I could not get to my Range Finder without the fear of spooking the Bull. It was very thick and the yardage was uncertain to me. I did not want to wound it so I had to let it walk. I would have given about anything at the time to have this developed at that moment. I actually looked very hard for a product like this before my hunt, and felt I may be hindered on the hunt. Unfortunately it happened as I dreaded. I made a few for a hunting partner and I to use, as we both shared the same problem. As more friends saw them, they wanted one as well. Everyone said I needed to make more so I could market and sell them. All of my hunting partners and friends use them. We have been using these since 2005 with great success and won't be in the field without them. As time went on I have discovered more and more uses for them. There are many uses of the Range Snap. Use it to have quick and easy access to any accessory you will use frequently. I usually have 2-3 Range Snaps clipped on me at all times. 1-2 on my bino system and 1 on my backpack strap, or vise-a-versa. I use my two-way radio a lot. This keeps it high on my shoulder and don’t have to dig in my pocket when someone calls or I need to use it. Another accessory I use frequently is my GPS. I snap my GPS to my backpack strap when I am hiking and want the satellites to continue to track me. Otherwise I loose signal when I put it in my pocket. I snap my camera, small video camera, tactical flashlight, varmint call and many other items so I have access to them when needed, and depending on the situation. This will also snap to your belt loop if needed. They will snap on and off when needed. Put it high or low on your straps. Snap it to your right or left side as needed. It is a very versatile and useful item to have. I looked for years to find a product that would allow me to snap my Range Finder high on my shoulder so I had it at all times. I searched the web, stores, and asked everyone I knew if they had ever heard of a product like this. I could not find anything that suited my needs so I was forced to develop the Range Snap on my own. There are a some people here in AZ, and a handful in a few other states that use the Range Snaps and like them. I just wanted to talk about my product and let people know there is a solution out there to carry your Range Finder in a manageable and accessible manner. Anybody else ever have a problem with getting to your Range Finder when needed? Here are a few pics. Please post up if you use a Range Snap, like it and why.

    Fob Coyote & Javelina

Nice job and great write up! That is a really cool looking silver pig. The spot and stalk coyote is not an easy one. Those pigs can be tough, my buddy shot his 5 times last year and he swore they were all good shots. I have been wanting to try those FOB's myself. How do you like them? Any clearance issues at all?

    Selfbow huntN (anyone on here).

Not yet unfortunately... but hopefully soon. I bought an Osage stave about 2 years ago with the intention of making one by now but haven't yet. I have been saving Turkey wing feathers to use for the feathers on the Cedars and will tie them on with sinew. Also wanted to make my own broadheads, grind them, temper em, and tie them on with sinew as well. My plan was to have it done for last Javi season but didn't make it, then this year didn't happen either. Had to hunt them last year with a backed longbow Great job on the Selfbow, gives me motivation. Good luck on the Javi's, I'll be after them this weekend with my flinter.
