Interesting considering I didn't get drawn for a tag which I should have been guaranteed for with my points Unfortunate I this is the case

Are u sure it was from the arizona game and fish? Thats just weird The wife ran the credit card by accident at nordstroms, her hair salon, and dinner for her and her friends,,,,,,, what a tease!! Another year with no tag, not to be negative, but i put in for the october rifle hunt which i was told by several guides i was basically guaranteed for with 10points, and NOTHING. Meanwhile my buddy with 1or 2 points gets drawn for the same hunt 3 out of 5 years. How is this possible??!! To say bonus points mean anything is a joke!!! I am slowly loosing confidence in this system the AZGFD has set up. anyone else feel the same way?? Now im done venting Time to find some guides that know what they're talking about. Unless you're applying for Limited Op. hunt or a cow tag, there are no October rifle elk hunts that are guaranteed with 10 points. The closest you can come for a guaranteed early rifle bull tag is 14 points in 6B. EASY TRIGGER!! I said the October hunt not the early hunt. The october hunt is a four day hunt at the end of the month with 150 permits, rather than me finding new guides, or should i say friends; its time open the regs and know what your talking about. Stay safe

Yes that's the hunt and last year 10 Pts got a tag, so who knows what happened? Unless folks with more points in for it. Life goes on I'm over it. Stay safe

I just found out i was billed 146.90$ on March 31st,,,,,,,, and151.23$ on April 2nd (about the cost of a non-res hunting license) but already had a resident hunting license purchased prior to submitting all of my info. What could this be? ??? does AZGFD screw up sometimes when it comes to billing???

10pts for elk....... nothing for october rifle 13pts for lope....... and as usual, nothing I'm 36 years old and have personally had an elk tag only once in this state!!.... I think I need to change my strategy
-
Sorry for your frustration, however I know guys with 19 points for elk and my dad has 20 points for antelope and they can't pull tags either.......... Im not applying for trophy elk hunts I'm putting in for average bull hunts at best
-
No hit here ............ I mean really, who was i kidding actually holding out hope that would get drawn for an average elk tag with 10 pts and an antelope tag with 15 pts???? Once again my money and time will go to another state this year. Sorry, it just gets discouraging not hunting elk in this state in over a decade!! Good luck to everyone else and be safe

Just got my first Remington this year, it's Remington 5R milspec in .308. Seems to shoot really well so far. Heard complaints about the new triggers but mine is right at 2-lbs crisp. They also pffer the 5R in .300 win mag. just something tho consider

I was hunting in 36B, with my Kaibab's and tripod set up I glassed up a decent buck and ranged him at 480yds!! No problem I thought; I was using my .308 Remington 5R shooting 165gr Nosler Ballistic tips M.V. 2800fps. I have a Sightron SIII 6-24X50 mounted on top. I have shot this distance before and am confident putting all shots in 3-4" under REAL hunting conditions!! so I thought "No problem my hunt will be over in no time" I had my bipod set up and a rear rest. My brother had him in the spotting scope; I adjusted 8moa plus 2click"s and let fly expecting to see the deer drop. ......... Nothing, again-BANG!!......... Nothing, again-BANG ........ Nothing. I said WTF and let the deer walk over the hill knowing something was wrong. I took a practice shot at 100yds and was 6" high WTF!!!!! 4moa should put me exactly 2" high,........ low and left, again I adjust, and the shots are all over. What happened?? I assume my turrets got messed up somehow. I took the scope off and spent the rest of the hunt helping everyone else find deer. To top it off I glassed up a HUGE mountain lion at 580yds the next day and had nothing to shoot it with :(. I sent the scope back to Sightron and they said they would fix it for free but it still cant bring back that deer and lion. Maybe next season

I have never hunted that unit but one thing that helped me was to SLOOOOOOOOWWWW DOOOOOOOOOWWN when glassing!! (besides having a tripod and good optics) I will spend hours glassing a hillside where I know there is deer and low and behold one will appear right where I looked 4-times prior!! I swear they are sent down from outer space when Im not looking. About every 10-20 min I will mark where I left off and brouse quickly the hillside with binos to see if anything is standing in the open. Then it is back to crunch time. I am finallty glassing up bedded bucks doing this. I pack caffine, coffee or ephedra as it keeps me on my toes and on point, otherwise I swear I could fall asleep with my binos right in front of me!! (thermogenics have been proven to increase confidnece, awareness, and focus...seriously!!) just something to consider. Good luck

I have the dednutz one piece rings and a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 tactical scope. The Sightron has the same warranty as vortex and the glass is SUPERIOR to the vipers for about the same price. Look them up they compare to NightForce and are rated slightly better than the Leupold Mark 4 by most who have looked through both!! I sent mine back to Sightron recently to have the turrets checked and they were awesome! Best customer service I have encountered.

Is it worth spending the extra money on a carbon fiber tripod?? They appear to be about a pound or two less and the one I'm looking at raises about 5-6 inches higher than the aluminum variety. Any input is appreciated. Thx

Honestly it depends on how much weight you want to take with you and if you want to glass standing up. One thing that I like about mine (swaro carbon tripod) is that it is more quiet to pull the legs out. I have had many manfrotto tripods that are great that are not carbon. which tripod are you looking at that is carbon? Vortex carbon fiber, it raises to 70 inches; I am going to get the "tactical" version which is a grip handle head and allows you to mount a spotting scope and your binos right next to each other. I can find it for 530$$ on the internet for everything.

Scope mounts were rock solid I was using dead-nutz 30mm mounts>>>>>> to the best of my knowledge anyway. also this was the first hunt, warm weather but no wind.

For what its worth most hard-core politicians are out for only one thing-- THEMSELVES!! left or right most if not all are swindlers.

Let me know the days, Im busy but will do what i can. For whats its worth we always bring back what trash we can carry and throw away at the end of each day. Every little bit helps i guess.

I had the vipers for a year sold them and bought the kaibabs. There was quite a difference I thought between the two. My Pentax DCF-SP 12.5X50's were brighter and clearer than the vipers (also something to consider they are great bins for the cost!!) however I have not tried the viper HD's yet. From what I heard they are very good and worth the money. Like I said you might want to look at the DFC-SP's, I found LOTS of deer with them on my tripod and could then wear them around my neck. Now I have to carry both the kaibabs and the Pentax when I go out.

Something to consider if you are using factory ammo (like I am) is the cost of ammunition. I can find Federal match grade ammunition online for as low as 19.00$ a box with no tax or shipping. That means I can shoot top notch ammunition about 3-5 times as much as I can when compared to my .300wby. Also recoil is low and barrel life is much longer. Quality hunting ammunition with accubonds runs around 30.00-35.00$$ a box. Steep but much less than any other .30 caliber round. If you are looking for a GREAT and ACCURATE factory produced gun in .308 or 300win mag check out the Remington 5R milspec!! I know of lots of people who use it for f-class shooting competitions right out of the box!! I have one and it shoots .5 MOA all day with factory ammunition at 200 plus yards. (look up the reviews on the internet) I got mine form bear mountain archery for about 900-950$$ Good luck hope some of this helps

I know who didnt find him hunting near the border..... two thumbs pointing toward THIS GUY!!
-
If you are looking on shooting factory ammo at those distances check out Nosler Custom ammo. They have pretty strict load tollerances, and are some of the hottest and most accurate.308 hunting rounds on the market (In my opinion).-- 165 Nosler accubond or ballistic tips at 2800fps from a 24' barrel. That gives you out to around 650yds at the 1800fps minimum depending on your altitude and temp.

I have the Kaibabs and can tell only a very SMALL difference between them and the Swaro's looking at around 1000yds. Also my eyes are norrow so the kaibabs fit me better than the swaro's. Exit pupil and interpupillary distance is larger in the kaibabs so I get much less fatigue over long periods of time, also the vortex warranty is AMAZING!!!!. second to NONE Just something to consider,,, overall both are really nice

Something to consider!!!! I was thinking the same thing (1000 yds) when I bought my remington .308 mil-spec and a Sightron SIII 6-24X50 long range scope. Then when I was out lobbing rounds and spinning turrets I had no idea just how far 1000yds is!!!!! I have shot it out to 780yds and can put all rounds in about 6-7" from prone position and a bipod at that distance. (shooting under real hunting conditions and using match grade ammo). My point is a 1000yard shot is a LONG ways off. I would recommend practice and setting a limit like 600-700yds as your max distance. Also the bullet will stay at or near the 1800fps minimum. The .308 has been proven over time to be the most accurate round ever produced. (ask army and marine snipers) It can stay supersonic out to 1000 yards, I would just not take a shot that far at an animal---too many variables (wind, altitude, temp, humidity, cold barrel vs. warm barrel, trigger pull, bullet variables, powder differences etc) Let me know what you decide

Heres the situation, my nephew who is 11yo got drawn for the youth hunt in unit 6a. Problem is my wife and I have our second child due on the 10th so I am unable to scout, camp, and flat out go with him on this hunt!! His father is going to take him even though he has virtually no experience hunting. I was planning on scouting the cedar flats area (south of stoneman lake) in hopes of finding some elk while using the 15X56's, however I have not been able to do any scouting because of our situation with our child on the way. Im truly not trying to internet scout!! I just want him and his father to be able to have a good experience; and to possibly get a chance seeing and taking his first elk. Any help they could receive would be great and appreciated!! Has anyone hunted this area? Is there another area recommended? I have hunted the northern parts of 6a but not south very much. Thanks to all and good luck
