I too am a teacher(11 years) and feel we are well compensated with the benefits, retirement and time off. I believe AZGFD is underpaid for the risks and expertise that their jobs require. It looks like they are gonna have to start rounding up illegals too since the feds won't do it. -
looks like something out of that Gremlins movie about 20 years ago

Congrats on the birds! we went 2 fer2 in 6A as well. hunterdude thanks for the info- we didn't take them from the area you were talking about but I appreciate you offering. I'll send you some pics. My buddy took one off the roost while I boogered one up. Went back to camp and cleaned his bird and we went back out mid morning. Outstanding hunt! We packed up and beat the storm back to town. treestandman- I don't think I have steady enough nerves to take one with a bow. Good work!

Good Desert Camping
rugerman replied to bowsniper's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I went camping around seven springs this weekend and it was perfect weather. The best part was when I heard my dog barking and when i went over he was toe to toe with a 2 ft Gila monster. very cool, we had the digital camera and got some great shots. we were up date creek the last weekend of quail and that was extremely pleasant also -
Dan, I agree with all of your reasons. Thanks for asking for input.

Did I read that right?>? Only $15,000 for 21 bighorns?

Howdy all, well my dec hunt is over. After much anticipation and scouting, I tagged out 8am on the 19th. I was glassing a canyon where I had seen this buck 2 weeks ago when he appeared on a trail in the manzanita below me. I ranged him at 218 yds and then laid my #1 across the tripod and ended my hunt. The 95 gr ballistic silvertips I loaded for my .243 performed perfectly. While I am somewhat disappointed with the early end, I am extremely happy to be blessed with such a fine animal. He did have a doe with him that hung around after the shot, in fact I finally ran her off when I hiked down to retrieve him. I guess I'll spend the rest of my vacation chasing birds. Good luck to all that are still hunting. P.S I sent a pic to Amanda so hopefully it will be posted soon

pics are up on pg 42(Thanks Amanda) How many of you would have let this buck walk??? Even in unit 22 where there are no deer?
-
Thanks everyone - Happy Holidays I saw several other bucks but not as many deer overall as I have seen in southern units. Younghunter I'm going back to shoot those quail I jumped every morning on the way in. They about gave me a heart attack

Iwill be there. With 3 others. see you there -
I hunted early bull there in 98. I saw most of the bulls down in the PJ country even though it was hot and dry. Saw most east of Red Butte and northwest out of Tusayan along the park boundary up to the Indian Res. From what I understand competition with other archers around tanks can be pretty ferocious. Good luck and congrats on your draw!

I got 22 in Dec.The wife got Nov 36c , turkey in 27 and a 7e bull tag. GAME HOG!!

I'm an az native and in 98 i drew a early bull tag in unit 9. Thank God I took a nice bull then because I will never get that chance again. Much sympathy for the long time residents that just got ROBBED

first off let me say what a great website this is! You are doing a great service for us coues hunters Amanda. Thanks for your efforts. I was wondering if anyone has backpacked into the mazatals in unit 22. I'm considering putting in for a tag for there this year.

I would love to take a lion someday. We glassed one up in 36C once and no one had a tag. Last time for that. My buddies came across one in 20C this year that had been shot in the face, one paw cut off and the tail skinned. We called the AZGFD and they sent someone out to investigate. What a waste! No wonder the antis are livid. I didn't like hearing about it either

I've taken coues with the .06 and 7 mag and both did a great job. My 7 has the BOSS so recoil is tamed significantly. Last year I took my .243 #1 with 95 gr for deer and a couple of 55 gr in case I saw a coati. Glassed up both, got neither. Great time anyway!
