    always fun to see some!!

Got the day off yesterday and went up north towards the rim to check out some elk I have been watching! I checked three normal areas I have found sheds in the past and glasses up some nice bulls in some lower areas still packing. Still some snow in some higher areas I checked out and not much sign that they were even around. Cows are looking stragily and losing their winter coats. Bulls should be dropping anytime now:-) so excited to start having some pics to share!! Good luck to all. In regards to pushing bulls you just have to scout conservatively!! Glass glass glass if you see the bulls are still carrying let them be turn around. Although a shed hunter walking through the woods is not a totally unusual sight for a elk or any animal to see. I walked more in the areas with less or no tracks where I had found sheds in the past just to try and find some old white ones and then rebleach!! Just always fun for me I am out year round finding sheds. Get out have fun and be smart about it let the animals be animals don't harass them!!

    saw a sticker

Yes!! Someone finally spotted my pops!! I have had my sticker on my Ranger for months put one on my dads truck like a week ago and he is already spotted. That sticker is surely a conversation piece out on the road though always talking with other hunters about the site!

    Hunting Guide School

I will definitely post some pics when I get back in town. Driving up there so going to a make a adventure out of the trip up as well as the trip back for sure. Tomorrow I drive into Kaibab for the night and going to get out and look for some sheds around some of the back water holes and hopefully come across some dandies! Would've love to have a partner on this trip but I took the last spot in the class. Only eight students total. Thanks for the feedback guys!!! Representing the CouesWhitetail.com sticker from here to Montana!!

Mr. Smith's trout looks like upper Canyon Creek to me!! It has a old canal that runs off the actual river and is loaded with fish. Just my guess though

    Looking at the Ranger

I have a '07 Ranger and I would recommend the 700 for sure!! Have takin mine everywhere you could think of and never had a problem before. Climbs anything and very reliable compared to other UTV's. I have gone to the dunes and kept up with the rhino's just fine! Got mine from ride on motorsports they had a good deal on the 07's at the time had to get a 8 x 10' but should be able to fit it in a 6 x10 just a squeeze. Good luck have fun!!

    How do I

Hey peoples!! Just wondering if anyone could give me the information I need to set up a Clean-up in Unit 24B. I go into that unit regularly to ride since it is so close to my home and am always picking up trash I happen to see on the trail. But there is only so much I can fit in my Ranger:( I would like to organize a clean-up project for that area but I know I will need to have dumpsters and trash bags there due to the amount of garbage a lot of people can't seem to take out on their own. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Cooper

What Caliber is most commonly used

First coues deer was shot with a old 6mm or at .244. Last year I dropped my big guy with my new 30-06. Took him down fast I like the bigger gun cause you have more range and I am confident that it will get the job done for me everytime! I only need the one gun gun to do all me killing with too!! Elk, mule deer, coues, antelope, coyote it does it all. Good luck on your selection

    November Rifle Hunt

Ok so I am finally getting some pics up from my November Whitetail hunt. The hunt was a great one this year I had a little pressure going into it because the three guys I had hunted with the year year before had already got three bucks in the october hunt. I had put in with my dad this year trying to get him into the hunting life with me. After a lot of scouting months prior, we set out for the morning hunt and leave the ranger and start our journey over to a vantage point do set up and glass. We spooked up a small spike just seeing him top the ridge in front of us, but when we made it up to the peak we couldn't find him. Sat up there for a few hours and didn't see any else moving so we headed back to the ranger. Now I don't know about you guys but if you saw a quad or truck parked while out hunting would you park like 50 yards from it. When we got to our ranger there where 6 other quads within 100 yards of ours. I was pissed first come first serve i always say. Nothing that evening just some does. The next morning woke up extra early planning on a tough hike into nice bowl. Got to the place where we were going to hunt and there was a truck parked there already so I decided to head back to the same area I had been the morning before because I have seen many mature bucks there. Got up and in our spot about 20 minutes before shooting light. But my hopes were high that I would see some nice bucks that day. Not 15 minutes after we got into place you hear deer crashing towards us from the top of the hill. Only problem was I had positioned myself for them to come from the bottom so there was a huge rock between them and I. I could see a couple of the deer just slowly feeding down the hillside, but thought they were does and fawns from first glance. I let them feed and continued to glass the rest of the hillside. When the light crested the surrounding mountains I took another look at the deer and saw horns. Last year I took my first deer a small spike, so horns meant shoot to me just wanted something bigger than last year. Grabbed my jacket and rested it on a rock, guessed the buck to be about 170 yards. Lined it up in the cross hairs and let it fly. He jumped in the air walked about 5 yards and fell end over end!! Dead Buck Then got up and got my dad in position in case there where other bucks with him. Sure enough a monster I would put him easily at 100" and 4 other nice bucks had stopped at the top of the hill before going back over into the trees. We got him set up and he got the buck fever for the first time. Squeezed the trigger and missed right over his back and away they went. Man it was a hunt I will never forget and to have my Dad there with me was a once in a lifetime moment. I am guessing he will score between 75-80" anyone have a guess let me know!!

    Bowhunt

Just wanted to pass on the exciting hunt me and some buddies had this weekend! On Saturday afternoon I loaded up the my trailer with the ranger and headed up to the spot to meet one of my hunting partners and a buddy of his from work. Now they had been up there at 5:30 that morning and spotted a spike and doe but were unable to access the normal area because they couldn't get their quads loaded in the morning. So I show up and we all pile on to the ranger and start to make our way back into our area. We are lucky enough to see a two pointer moving across in front of us. My buddy knows the area has some nice bucks and was holding out for one of them so passed him up and his buddy had gotten his first mule deer (a two Point) in Kaibab back in September so he passed as well. Could have gotten in front of this buck easily. But we move along We travel for a few miles on some rough road and get to a good vantage point and start glassing. Spot some deer well over a thousand yards away but didn't have a spotting scope to pick apart the antlers from the limbs behind them. Really a big bodied deer though, who knows! Ended up sitting around there and watched them for a while before we started to make our way back. It was getting kind of chilly now that the sun was behind the mountains and we really weren't anticipating what was about to happen. As we passed this mountainside we commonly see deer on this deer starts to run along side us in the ranger, I stop leave the ranger running. The deer stops 35 yards from us its a nice two pointer good splits and giving us a pretty close shot. The deer moves up the hill and I am thinking he is out of here but once again he stops at 45 yard. My buddy is ranging him while his buddy is getting the arrow knocked and ready, the deer moves up a little bit, he shoots! Right under his belly:) Man it was close though. We figured he had walked a little farther back than we thought before we had a chance to re range him. Yeah this buck through it in our face too, went out to 72 yards broadside and just gave us another look before he made his way up the hill with his four does. My buddies and I have been up in this area quite often over the last couple years and this trip we were the closest to coues buck. Usually rifle hunting in this area. Fun times and hoping to go do it again in a couple weeks. Hope to get one then and show you guys some pics!
