**UPDATE!! * i need some prayers please *

I really do appreciate the words that have been spoken & the prayers that God hears. and trust me, i hear them to i feel the compassion in each word i have read and have just got a boost from it... of course i am sitting here at 2:25 in the morning on computer cuz i just keep thinking elk. You know i have medical probs from head to toe, but i can usually walk, i can smile, and i can appreciate life. i spend much time at the va and man it is getting bad. it is killing me to see these men and women come back so messed up. i truly feel these things i am going through is to help others in same or worse situations. va is a tough system to navigate and i have handed out my name & # to more than one service man or woman in need of guidance. to give those who dont know an idea. i was on limited duty from around 95-97 kinda retired, i have been fighting since 97 for gov. to acknowledge every issue i have. i am being compesated but the main issues for disability have been denied for 12 years. pretty sad system we have!!! what about everyone getting out now? between physical and mental issues they are in rough situation. pray for all of our troops, when in combat wether it be on battlefield or fighting for what they have earned. thanks, mike

    Coatimundie

i had just this, a big toad of a coati 2 years ago almost white in color he was so old & gray. my son had just harvested first deer and little baboon looking devils were suddenly all around us. my son decided to see how close he could get but when he reached abot 12-15 yds i got a little anxious. he decided they were cute so did not want to harvest. if i had bow with me i would have taken the old dude for sure, i just did not want to drill him with sons 243 at 15-20 yds. they sure make short work of a gut pile. has anyone ever seen coati $ coyotes in same area? or are they insted of coyotes in certain areas?

    TLO "RIB ROLL"

Not sure if they still do but 17 years ago it was person who hit it or person they signed it over to. i just happened to work at restaurant that was first stop out of the killing field. you know the area by Christopher Creek on 260 the way 260 used to go straight through C.C..from colcord road to little green valley was DEADLY. thank God for new set up. My boss and restaurant owner at that time OLIVE would let me go get critters. gals working front desk would come tell me when someone came in to use phone for elk strike. i would go out & first of all make sure no injuries then make sure they were not stranded. last i would explain what the meat meant to those of us in a small community with lower incomes. some people would just think your NUTS. MOST PEOPLE would agree to sign elk to me when highway patrol arrived. highway patrol usually acted as if it were a burdon on them but WHO CARES THATS GOOD MEAT. The only funny time was a bunch of fraternity guys sitting in dining room drunk and telling of the huge deer they ran into that TOTALLED friends truck by gravel pit/colcord rd. i approached offered my assistance, they needed place to camp, i agreed to help for the elk and some a beer of course since they did have a keg in back of truck. so i took guys to tonto creek campgrounds and then took 2 lucky izod shirt plaid short wearing frat boys to help me with elk. i had to work quick (temp) so i just cut that little spike bull right in half and made these guys help me lift into truck. i picked up liver and pretended to take bite. they freaked & took picture said it was going on wall above mantle at frat house. I took those guys back to their friends bloody from head to toe. so to recap. kid hits elk in dads truck, kid totals dads truck, kids sign meat to me, couple kids ruin their clothes, couple kids still probably having nightmares about mountain man eating raw elk liver, to top it off i took couple friends down to their camp and helped drink their keg oh ya, when i pulled up to their camp 6 of the guys were walking down road with fresh cut sapplings for firewood . they had no freakin clue. i hope this story puts a grin on your face when you read cuz im still laughing 17 years later..

  6. HAS ANYONE OUT THERE HEARD OF OR TRIED THIS BOW?? THE BELIEVER IS DESIGNED FOR CHRISTIAN ARCHERS WHO WANT SHARE WHAT THE LORD IS ALL ABOUT. THINK OF THE CONVERSATIONS THAT WILL START WITH THIS BABY. IT HAS 99%LET OFF OR 80% IF DESIRED. CONCEPT BOWS ARE MADE IN THE US AND HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY. IF YOU CHECK OUT CONCEPT ARCHERY YOU WILL SEE THIS IS FIRST BOW ON THEIR WEBSITE, THAT IS A BOLD STATEMENT FOR THE COMPANY RIGHT THERE. I DO NOT OWN YET BUT PLAN ON IT. Great for the shoulder i would guess. 99% letoff

sorry i skipped out for quite a while. i still do not have a concept bow. i have crossbow permit now. i also think they look like an older bow BUT have ya noticed how many people are only buying for looks or speed. Have you also noticed how many members of the archery community have underwent multiple shoulder surgeries?? i gave owner / rep??? some company names in phoenix. not sure if anything in town yet. i think he told me he has some in Tucson? i had him send me some brochures if anyone is interested i would be more than glad to supply you with one. happy hunting

    TLO "RIB ROLL"

I just saw this and thought i would add my own experience. "rib roll" to me this is an incredible dish taught to me by BUTCH the BUTCHER. used to cut meat at bashas (iga?) in Payson. I enlisted butchs help many times 17 years ago when we both lived in Christopher Creek. i was the roadkill salvage guy... when you get lots of game meat and are a bachelor if ya smart ya hand it out to all ladies in area so ya get some home cooked meals in return. ANYWAYS-- Butch showed me to shave all fat & meat from front to back up and down in all off outside of ribcage in one big slab. on an elk this is decent serving... we did not include rib meat in this roll. you end up with probably 3-7#s of heaven. depends on size of elk and shot placement. its been awhile but i believe i simply hammered rib roll out like chicken fried steak, floured, salt & peppered, wrapped with stuffing like you would stuff a turkey. wrapp in bacon and tie it all up. bake in oven 3-5 (depends on size)hours low temp/ im telling you not only does oit taste good but when you slice it and have these swirled layers of greatness wrapped inside, PEOPLE WILL BE IMPRESSED. little mashed and gravy and your golden!! i made the mistake of taking to work with me at creekside steakhouse and sending it into bar for samples to locals and yes they ate every bit of it. i look forward to getting some next week, its been a while. you only get 2 per elk so make them count. i got spoiled with the roadkill salvage permits back then and had quite a few rolls per year. happy hunting & eating.
  9. Better yet. Leave friends at home and make it "take a bunny hunting day". best pics i have ever seen. thanks.

    Critters in the blind ??

thats just gr8 . your telling me if i sleep on floor of blind and snore i may inhale the stuff and, well you know , loose a few quick LB's thanks for D warning.
  14. Not sure how to spell. DIA-TAMATIOUS-EARTH . ANYWAYS, they have a edible grade white powder used for eroding any shelled critter. i buy at feed store in cv. crk. my sister uses this product for ants around her horses. NO POISON, NO ODOR, AND IT KILLS CRITTERS WITH SHELLS THAT TOUCH IT. "SCORPIONS, ANTS. CENTIPEDES ETC. if you set blind weeks in advance take a gallon bag of this & sprinke liberally inside at little perimeter (it is white in color) should be good to go when you hunt!!! or prep it for when blind does go up. about $25 for HUGE bag. works great on crickets & roaches in town... didnt seem to help daddy long leg problem i would tell you what it says on bag but - bowhunter4life - took me literally when i said use liberally...

congrats on your first, looks tasty to me...
  18. on third morning of all day blind sitting this year i lasted about 30 minutes before pushing chair aside and taking a good nap. WELL MAYBE TOOOOO GOOD. i woke up to elk running past me in single file line with 10 seconds between each of them. one side of blind was squaking in desperation the other side was silent and planning their attack on me i believe. i thought back to the wake up and realized the old sleep apniea helped get those elk on their way. "zzzzzzzzz" they dont like snoring i guess. and when i checked camera later that day i had 1/2 dozen gobblers in front of blind during NAP time ALSO. moral of the story is dont loose your reading entertainment the night before in the dark while packing out!!!

    Keep'in Cool

I wear shorts in the blind ALL the time. Is it better to wear scent lock and sweat your but off, (stink) or is it better to stay cool, dry, and comfortable while spraying yourself down on and off with scent-a-way throughout the day. I choose the latter. i use unscented gel anti-persperant/deodorant made by mitchum. not some flakey or puddy like crap that doesnt work. I use under armour ((type)=wicking and does not stink when sweat hits it) shorts, underwear, & t-shirt and do pretty darn well. heck, wear black golf shirts in the blind, just dont wear cologne with it. i was recently laughed at for wearing shorts by someone WHILE THEY WERE HELPING ME PACK MY DEER OUT SHORTS MUST BE OK... although legs do get tore up allot. Scent control is not as hard to combat as people make it out to be. i will be the guy shooting an elk next week wearing shorts. HAPPY HUNTING!

    *** Finally ***

Well finally after 27 years of big game hunting and probably twenty of them with a bow on and off, i did it. I sat a blind for a couple of days trying for a good coues buck i had on camera. i managed to whack a turkey and watch some elk but deer were not willing participants. on third day i bailed out figuring if my body was gonna hurt from sitting all day i might as well try and make it productive elsewhere. i was on way to quad after leaving EVERYTHING by a fence when 2 little muleys jumped and bailed. of course they stopped and looked back. i RETURNED to fence on my hip that is falling apart and rummaged through everything to find X-bow, cocking device, bolts, range finder, binos, well everything i had put away... IT WAS ALL WORTH IT. WITHIN ABOUT 400 YARDS MY FIRST (ARCHERY MULEY, CROSSBOW DEER, SPOT-N-STALK) WELL LETS SAY THIS LITTLE DUDE DID A LOT OF FIRSTS FOR ME. WHY DO THEY ALWAYS STOP AND LOOK BACK ? WELL WHATEVER THE REASON, I HAVE FINALLY KILLED ARCHERY DEER SPOT-n-STALK, X-BOW OR NOT I AM HAPPPPPY. I never thought i would have physical limitations at anypoint in life but since things happen i am really glad God put a terrific FAMILY and great FRIENDS in my path. thanks to those who helped me on packing out.. *** the bottom pick is who i was after. maybe next year!!!
