Have you ever missed a shot because of a steep angle?
THOR replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
Well...my dad and I backpacked a few miles into 32 a few years back and I had a new gun with a great scope. i went in a day before him to set up camp and had a funny thing happen. i was a bit of the way in he was going to join me the next day because he had to work. it was still the day before the hunt, so i got in, filled up our water from a spring filtered it and went out to scout. got back had some dinner and it was a bit differnt being in the middle of nowwhere, by your self in a little spike camp for the first time miles from any roads. I liked it though, well i got woken up in the middle of the night with something making a bunch of noice...all I thought was bear. So i got out of the tent and with my rifle in one hand and a rock in the other....it was a huge black bull rubbing up against a tree right by my little tent.....i felt dumb Now on to the shot...i had this buck picked out before my dad got in. found him the morning he was hiking in and i was going to hunt him the next day. It was a group of 5 bucks. I found 4 of the 5 in the morning but wanted to go after him in the evening. He was over 100 but not 110+( Sorry Devin had to do it, no disrespect brotha) i missed that buck that evening at 250 yds 5 times at about a 45 degree angle down hill, if i had a spotter i would have gotten him but its tough when youre by your self, my dad was hunting some other bucks! good luck to all for all your hunts! I am with you Devin...I have killed a few deer that go 100+ and many that that have gone 100-. I think if someone is going to post a score, make it accurate. a lot of people dont really know how to score as well. a lot of the animals I have taken could make the record book, but i never submitted them. i had them scored. Also...to each there own...I see so many animals that are scored so much higher than they really are. the important thing to me is the hunt and what you remember and what is past on to others! ~Mark PS youre a great hunter, guide and taxidermist....keep it up!

Congrats on a great Ram and to have so many people to help. To hunt them is something you will never forget! I got my Ram when I was 17 and i couldnt have done it with out those that helped. If i were you i would try to go on as many sheep hunts as possible, more so to help others. Mark

If i were you i would go to Americas Best string...they have worked better for me than Winners Choice. I dont shoot a hoyt, I shoot an X-Force. but the string has been great. Mark

One thing that needs to be done when you are driving around is have your bow or gun in a case. I know of some friends of mine that have been ticketed in 36a for having there bow out of the case, one time it was on a quad with bungee cords....dont really like that guy....JMO

I will never ridicule an ASU guy again. You are a very smart man Mr. Lark. That was a great post. And I agree. i agree 100% you both are right...here is another idea...every animal that eats another can bring on mercurey...That is just nature. it doesnt alwawys have to be what it is shot with that can get confused by some that it is lead to change the documentation. people like to make problems. Mother nature nature will make things work...its not the place for us to play God. Everything happens for a reason and if an animal dies off...so be it.I love watching everything in the wild but sometimes things happen for a reason. For us to feel like it is up to us to bring everything back is wrong. There are more inportant things out there then to see a wolf or a condor. way too much money is spent and in my mind waisted! For the Ranchers and outdoorsmen and women! Mark

fyi...i hope you were in 37b because 37a isnt open yet. i wish 37a was open, I want to chase some big mulies as well as the white tail that hid in those hills. i have seen whitetail in the Tortalitas as well as the Silverbells, Roscruge (sp) and the Tucson Mountains. i have seen them in black hills as well. good luck on your hunts. i have picked up a shed close to where Iron Wood Ridge Highschool is now about 10 years ago. That is just south of Tangerine.

+1 I have two Scott's little biity as well but I keep my second one in my pack. I have never had a problem at all with them. definetly go with a strap, i have them that way and are much more quiet. the velcro makes noise even when you draw. You cant go wrong with Scott's. Mark

Sitka Mountain Gear? Does anyone recommend it for Coues hunting
THOR replied to CouesSlayer77's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have used Sitka gear for the past few years and I will have to say it is the most confortable clothing i have ever had. One thing that is good about Sitka as well, is the warrenty. you can send it back to them and they will fix it at little to no cost, thats part of why it costs so much. just like a pair of swaros...you get what you pay for and the company behind it. -
I agree...Hopefully they learned from the last problem that came up with Macho B...we all learn from our mistakes and can improve on them. I just wish I could have seen that Jag, I have heard that roar that is talked about in the Cerro Colorados in 36c 10 years ago. its a crazy sound, very deep, almost can feel it in your chest like base from a stereo... Great find find! if the head was in the sun i would bet wounded in October or killed by a lion. If his nose is busted I would call it a lion kill. If it was in the shade I would say january or some time before they drop. Great buck...lets here a score! Mark

My buddy and i have taken out a lot of kids this year with there fathers, i was wondering if there is anything out there to join where you can help out someone who wants to hunt where their father or mother doesnt hunt or is not able to? Thank you Mark

Another thing that goes into the taste of the meat is how long it took to die. Once that first bullet or arrow hits him, adrenalin starts pumping through his body, slowly making the meat worse. it doesnt take long for it to be a bit more gamey of a flavor. as far as the past posts.. It does not take long to run a hose over the meat, you put the time and money in for the hunt, whats another 5 minutes to wash it off....its not like the butchers are going to add dirt and hair. Have respect for the animal you killed and for those that are going to eat it by taking the extra couple minutes to do it right!!! just my 2 cents! Mark
