Out shooting the AR today. Using my reloads. Recipe was 24.5 grns Win 748 Wolf small magnum primers, Sierra 55grn bullets in LC brass. Ultrasonically cleaning baked in oven at 180 for a hour after to dry.
Here's what happened, shooting fine time 40-45 rounds in. Pull trigger nothing. Pull back charging handle out pops a shell with no bullet in it. I think it was a failure to eject as case had apparently normal dimple in primer. And let the charging handle load another round without much thought. Pull trigger nothing happens. (luckily) So I pull my mag and pull out an unfired shell with the slightest dimpling of primer. But notice chamber is full of this black and yellow powder. Never seen that before. Pull the gun apart and look down barrel and see a bullet stuck in the throat.
Never seen this before so I clear it and go back to shooting. A few rounds later and the exact scenario happens again. At this point I've never seem this before. Suggestions on cause. Firing pin? Bad loads? Thoughts? What's with the yellow powder? contamination? Help me cause this can't be safe. I've shot roughly 2-300 of these exact loads up to this point without any of these issues.

I have a Mathews outback all set up ready to go might even have a couple extra arrows. Let me know if interested. But you should have gone into a shop first and talked about DL and pulled back a few to see what draw weight you're comfortable with.

Where is this located?

In all seriousness though I'm glad I have never left a dove in the vest cause I have actually washed mine many times. Now that could get ugly really fast.....

I have a hard time watching the walking dead. I just doesn't seem very real to me. Hollywoods overdone it again taking a good story and making it unbelievable. It's like the same thing they do with good books.

Did you go with the thumler's tumbler? It looks great and I keep threatening to make the switch.
Nope this is done with the harbor freight rock tumbler. Total cost for this switch/trial was about $50. The best part is that I think I don't need to neck size this. Quick cleaning in the ultrasonic when I bring the brass home from shooting. The lee pacesetter deprimes and sizes all at once. Then thru the tumbler. Im thinking this is not going to add any extra work to my case prep and I'll get better looking brass.

So I've made the switch to stainless steel media in a wet tumbler. Here are the results:
3.5 hours in tumbler
this one shows a 3.5 hour tumble to 1 hour tumble both are clean but the 1 hour also didnt have lemi shine.
The four duller brass are the 1hour tumble without lemi shine
I wish I had saved some of older brass to compare it too.
Heres the recipe:
1 lb Stainles media
70-80 pieces of 223
cover with cold water
1/2 a 9mm case of lemi shine
a small squirt of dawn
Run for 2.5 hours min although I think 3.5 hours is the right amount.
Any other ways to do it let me know. Im open to anything to do this more efficient.

Hey stop selling out the stash at brunos :-)+1
Right now any thing at Bruno's is lots of $$$$

I say husky I don't buy anything else in payson. Show me the news story cause seems to me that would make some news.
-
I use the pacesetter dies a lot that deprimed and resize at once. I am going with the SS media. Thanks for the advice I'm gonna give it the old college try and see then if it turns out.

You might get $ $50-75 for scrap! I take our left over steel down to the recycler every couple months. They would make for some good home made Dutch ovens tho.Wow you must have a sweet deal with your scrapper. Last time we sold our scrap it was about $110 per ton.
But to someone who has use for it it could go for a lot more.

So I'm thinking of switching from an ultrasonic cleaner to rotary wet tumbling my brass. (fast vs really clean) my concern is I always deprimed and resize my brass before cleaning will I need to resize necks after rotary tumbling due to all the banging around in the tumbler or should there be no difference.

That picture you have posted there isn't of the hunter. Might want to double check the hunter is a far cry from the ultra rest ld both quality and price wise.

In all honesty I truly feel for what happened in Boston today. Whoever committed that act today will burn in ----- and I wouldnt urinate on him to put out the fire.
BUT,
I realized that it seems they should ban homemade bombs to prevent this from happening again! Maybe limit the amount of explosives put in it so it's not so dangerous.
Sorry if what I say is offensive to anyone but I will be praying for those people tonight with my children. I just feel the government couldnt care less for the people who grant them their authority.
Maybe this thread should be in political discussions......

I think everyone on here might agree but if you have extra time that's helpful. Cause for me I seem to go through a lot of it when I'm reloading.....

Stag arms Flat top upper and 16" barrel, 5.56 nato 1/9 twist. Been sitting for too long collecting dust. Has a YHM Phantom Flash Hider as you can see. It has an Olympic Arms Free float rail. Maybe total of 600 rds down it. It hasnt been babied there is wear so it is not pristine but it also isnt destroyed don't get scared away it has tons of life left in it. NO BCG or Ch...$360
SOLD- American Tactical lower NOT polymer never built multi cal lower. NIB $260
This is all from a build I started before it got bad and now I dont have the money to pay for the parts to finish it. If anybody wants the both of em I'll throw in a brand new Pmag for free. (Thats like a bonus of 15 to 50 dollars depending ) Open for trades prefer .40 or optics maybe a rifle no 243s 270s or 3006. Im pretty solid on my prices I think they're fair.
SPF- Also have 1000 once fired LC 5.56 Brass for $125 which is about the going rate for em pretty much everywhere but backpage which is a lot more. I can trim, swage, size and tumble them if you want. $22 per 100 I figure most peopel who reload want to do that themselves though so you can pick. Let me know if your interested.
And last I have 9 boxes of ammo PMC and American Eagle 180 rounds total. Make an offer on this stuff. I dont shoot factory loads anymore.
Other trades I'm interested in:
Reloading components 300 win mag (dies brass bullets etc)
223 (bullets powder)
Maybe even a new press
New swage tool
.22lr ammo
Optics (red dot)
Bare Bow pretty open here to brand
An AR stock
Bipod
Or just make an offer

There was a lot of 223 at cabelas today for 8.oo a box of 20. Didn't buy a single one. Apparently there are people who need it more than me.....

Recently bought 500 type 1 brass (meaning all ready to load) for $65 dollars and I'm always looking for more. With all the work to prep once fired brass you might not get a whole lot for. Like if it has crimped primers that's a pain in the butt if it's been deprimed that's a plus.

So..... I assembled my first AR-15 last October. That has kinda been a mistake. At the time I wasnt worried about buying mags or ammo. I did manage one pmag at $40 in December (ouch huh?). But, I still have never shot it and have no ammo for it.
I have a lee reloader and was wondering if someone had a bit of the following:
Powder any for a 223 load will work
Small rifle primers
Bullets.
Not as concerned about bullets I have seen some still around. Dies I think I could find. Brass I already bought. I don't want a lot. Even if I could get enough to load two hundred rounds I would be happy as a clam. I'm willing to pay a reasonable price but I'm not looking to get gouged otherwise I'll continue to wait. Please let me know.

Found a other thread with this exact scenario on the web. Here's what was figured out as an FYI. Issues is with the wolf primers apparently. They believe that they are having difficulty igniting the powder. The yellow is what happens when the graphite is lost off the powder. Reason bullet was in the throat is that the primer had enough umph to dislodge it while not igniting the powder. The firing of the primer without lighting the powder is why the graphite is gone and the powder is yellow.
Interesting here's a link with a pic even which shows exactly what I was talking about:
