PHOENIX(June 16, 2011) – Public safety concerns due to drought conditions, hot temperatures and increased fire danger have resulted in two temporary area closures on the Tonto National Forest beginning at 8 a.m., Friday, June 17. The two area closures are within the following boundaries: 1. All National Forest System Lands, roads and trails below the Mogollon Rim and North of the Control Road, bounded by National Forest System Road 708 at the Fossil Springs Trailhead proceeding easterly along National Forest System Road 708 to the intersection with the power line road at the Southwest edge of the town of Strawberry; following the power line corridor southerly then easterly to the intersection of Forest System Road 583 at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park; continuing easterly on Forest Road 583 to State Highway 87; then northerly following State Highway 87 to National Forest System Road 64 (The Control Road); thence easterly following the Control Road to the Intersection with State Highway 260; easterly along State Highway 260 to the Forest boundary at the top of the Mogollon Rim; and westerly along the Mogollon Rim and Tonto National Forest Boundary to the Fossil Springs Trailhead at Forest Road 708. 2. All National Forest System Lands, roads and trails within the Mt Ord, Four Peaks and Three Bar Wildlife Area, bounded by the eastern edge of Highway 87 on the west beginning at the intersection with Forest System Road 143; on the north along State Highway 87 to the intersection with State Highway 188; on the south along the western edge of Highway 188 to the Salt River corridor; on the west along the north side of the Salt river corridor including the north shores of Apache Lake, Canyon Lake and Saguaro Lake to Cottonwood Creek; northerly along Cottonwood creek to the intersection with Forest System Road 401, continuing northerly on Forest System Road 401 to the intersection with Forest System Road 143 and westerly on Forest System Road 143 terminating at the intersection with State Highway 87. Exceptions to this closure are the RV Dump site on the west side of State Highway 188 at Cholla Bay. The Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, highways 87 and 188 are unaffected by this closure, as are all county roads. Also, most types of fire or fire-causing activities are prohibited across the Tonto National Forest. “Because of ongoing drought, dry forest conditions, and exceptionally low relative humidities, fire restrictions are needed to protect forest users, structures and natural resources from the increased potential for wildland fires,” said Tonto National Forest Deputy Fire Staff Officer Helen Graham. “These precautionary measures are intended to enhance our visitors’ quality recreation experiences. Most areas of the Tonto National Forest remain available for recreation activity, including all the Salt River system lakes.” Graham concluded: “We continue to remind the public that all fireworks are prohibited on the forest at all times.” Violation of these restrictions is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 for individuals, $10,000 for organizations, and imprisonment for up to six months. http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c4/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gjAwhwtDDw9_AI8zPyhQoY6BdkOyoCAGixyPg!/?ss=110312&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=STELPRDB5309520&navid=180000000000000&pnavid=null&position=News&ttype=detail&pname=Tonto National Forest- News & Events

I shoot a 300 Win Mag and love it, love the range, velocity, and bullet versatility. It also can reach out and touch. I also shoot a 257 Wby Mag and love that too. Almost no recoil and the velocity is insane. From 300 to 400 is like a 6 inch drop. Future calibers I would like try are 270 Wby Mag, 6.5x55 SM, and 6.5-284.

I vote vortex viper or razor scope, great for the money
-
Both calibers are awesome, I would start with the one that is more accurate initially. I did a similar accurizing process with my 257 weatherby which was just putting a timney trigger on it lol. I plan on putting a new stock on it soon but as of now it shoots under .732 inch groups at 100 yards. Trigger makes a huge difference and its only 100 dollars. Install it yourself its really easy just have a chisel to take away some of the plastic on the stock if it is putting pressure on the trigger assembly. Hopefully some remington guys with chime in because I have no idea where to start on those.

those are through a Vortex Nomad spotter (cheap but awesome glass) and a cannon digital elph 12.1 MP point and shoot digital camera without any adapter I simply hold the lenses together and take a couple pictures. Cool that what I do with the same scope just a different camera. They look a lot better than mine I might have to get a better camera. Are you going out this weekend?

Jim white tripod head but I think I am going to upgrade to the outdoorsmans pan head.

I walk on the treadmill with my pack on and the incline all the way up and go on hikes whenever I can but there is too much snow up here to do that right now. I also do the p90x plyometics workout a lot. I think it helps a lot for hiking.

I have both a 257 WBY MAG and 300 WIN MAG and I love both of them. I highly recommend the 300 WM or 300 Ultra whatever you decide in the savage 116fhsak because is comes stock with an accutrigger, nice stock, great action and barrel, and a muzzlebrake for cheap. Mine shoots sub MOA and I didn't even break the barrel in properly. As far as my 257 weatherby mag, I have it in a vanguard and I put a timney trigger on it and it shoots .732 inch groups at 100 yards. Whatever caliber you decide to get is up to you but I think my 300 win mag has enough power for anything and with the muzzlebrake the recoil is not bad. Just make sure you get an accurate platform like a savage or weatherby. My 2 cents. PS the 257 weatherby mag shoots flatter than anything I have shot for deer and there is no recoil at all really.
