    What broadhead do you use?

+1 I shot a deer last month with T3's @90 yards he went about 80 yards to die, he was quartering away and I got full penetration and a huge cut, Last week I shot my bull with the same set up at 72yards. same quartering shot and same great penetration and cut size, that bull went even less distance. I havent shot alot of animals with a bow but it seams to me that what ever is sharp and pointy and shoots the best out of your bow is the greatest broadhead. If you can make the good shot, a dull, not so pointy one would probably work just fine. I mean indians shot rocks at animals! sam

good ending to a long wait

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Looks like there have been some awesome bulls taken this year but cwt.com'ers and Im proud to be one of um. Eventually I would like to have him scored by some who knows what they are doing but for now some buddies of mine have taped him a couple times and we have got numbers between 363" and 366" gross, either way I couldn't be any happier. The differences came from where ya measure his spread cause its kinda funny. His 45" main beam doesn't help him but the G1,G2,G3 and G4 being over or right at 20" helps! Thanks again sam

good ending to a long wait

thanks for all the cudos guys. Just wanted everyone to know there are still good folks out there. We woulda got my bull out but it would have taken three days with out two really stand up guys. turns out we had some mutual friends and I hope to make it to a hunting camp to pay them back some day. And lark, yeah this thing was bigger than a horse. heck his eye balls are 9 or 10 inches apart! I dont know how to age a bull well or even at all but his bases are pretty old looking and his face looked like and old bull to, but he might have just been a young stud with more groceries than he knew what to do with. sam

    BULL BASIN ARCHERY in Tucson

Jr. and Tim run great shops. They carry all kinds of stuff and their staff is super knowledgeable, They can help everyone from the total new-guy, to the experienced hunter looking to tune and tweak his setup and then turn around and help the professional target shooter get his fancy gizmos set up. Overall great atmosphere and great selection. Their prices run par to the same thing any where else. You cant compare "discount-crap.com" to the service you get at BULL BASIN! -sam

    Eberlestock Packs

I use the X2. I have had it for the past few seasons. I LOVE IT. last year I packed enough junk in it to do a 3 day over night plus tripod and gun. Its not the biggest pack but just right for what I do. packed out a few coues last year in it. also 2 bulls in quarters. Weight is weight no matter what but this pack rides nice and weighs very little when empty. If you are a bigger build I have heard that the internal frame rubs on the hip bones a bit, but Im 6'2" 190# and I don't have that problem, just something I heard. Eberlestock seems to have good customer service so that is always a plus. The other good news about the X2 is the price I think you can find it most places around $160 which is half of the J107. Good luck finding what makes ya happy. -sam

    Found your camera...

Hello all, My friend and I were out chasing horns this weekend and we came across a stealth cam that looks like its been there a LONG LONG time and I think it might even be the old 35mm film type, not sure. Any ways, we DID NOT take it or mess with it. This is just an area I hunt alot an rarely see a human in. If this is yours I would love to chat and hear about what you get pics of and we can swap stories. Im not much of a trail cam-er or else I would trade pics with ya too, I just spend too much $$ on fuel to by any trail cams! We were in 6A WEST in the ceders. and near the edge of a medium sized canyon. I know that's vague but I dont want to give away some ones secret spot. I figure there aren't many old film trail cams still out there. I there are alot of threads about folks with missing trail cams and the like so I thought I would see if we can make a positive post an make a friend. By the way we did find one coues horn (white), nothing big just a nice young 2 by with eye guards and good genes. sorry I dont have a pic. cheers, -sam

    Flagstaff Support

Im not sure if this has been posted elsewhere on here yet but I found this flier from the G&F. Looks like they are holding a info open house to discus further plans for the Northern Arizona Shooting complex. I know there is alot of controversy involved with this, I am not up to speed on all of it but I know that we NEED a safe and healthy place to practice our sport and heritage. Hope this gets under way and we can all enjoy it soon. check out the link below and please feel free to pipe in if there is good reason to oppose this or if there are considerations we should all be lobbying for. shooting range open house Cheers, sam

    Tripod Head Maintenance

+1 for the mineral oil, I use stuff for sewing machines. Just a drop 'er two. I have seen that head but dont have the exact one in my hand to tell how to take it a part but if ya can do it, take it down as far as you can and wash up all ur parts. if the mating surfaces look chingered up then dont be afraid to use a light emery cloth to touch em up, but go easy on her, just enough to take off any burrs. As you said there is the option of just dropin the coin on the ol outdoorsmans.... but they get dirty and hung up to.... they are easier to clean though cause you can just take it back and they will help you get it back to smooth.. you dont pay for just an awesome product you pay for a life time of service and support. hope ya get it workin. -sam

    Big Eye Spotting Scope Brackets

I was definitely not a fan of angled eye pieces for along time but after having a nice chair and tripod set up looking though the highlanders was awesome and you can sit and look for hours in total comfort.. so just my 2cents, go for the better glass if you can afford them and dont be worried about the angled if that s the only decision maker. Wish I had more experience with all these side by side. good luck.

    Maps for metro areas

Im not sure about any maps but I know there is a pretty cool mini SD card that you can put in your GPS and it will tell you what kind a land you are on. I forget the name of the software but I know BULL BASIN ARCHERY carries them in Flagstaff and Tucson. Im sure other places do too. Hopefully this helps and hopefully some other guys pipe in and remind me of the name of it and if they have had good experience with its accuracy. Good luck sam
