    Out of state hunters

I understand that....but why the VELVET restriction? It seems they have 'invented the wheel' on that issue! If you're going to implement statutes based on "caution" or fear without scientific and factual data to support the restriction, then why not just ban ALL out-of-state cervid animals from being imported into that state if you're REALLY concerned about the spread.

I think he supported most of it......but he also said there were knee jerk reactions that created some unwarranted polices by panicked decision makers who didn’t know enough about the issue......which we’re still learning. He remembers what happened in WI (mass killing). He’s also one that believes CWD has been around forever.

Ha...both, he’s a retired MT Region 1 warden. I’m aware of the document.....it’s good read for those not familiar with CWD issues. Again, there has been NO case ever documented where CWD has been transferred by means of velvet antlers. That’s my only issue with this new push.

I would say it’s a tissue, but I’m being told there is NO velvet antlers restrictions in MT.

Velvet antlers are allowed in MT

They are the only state the restricts velvet antlers, though. Funny how their press release explains how CWD is spread (brain tissue and spinal column fluid) yet there’s never been a documented case of CWD spread via velvet antlers. So why restrict it?

EXCEPT the velvet antlered portion....with ZERO facts to support this restriction.

Are you aware how it is actually spread?

They just took the money out of our local taxidermist’s hands. Not a very well thought out statute and definitely a knee jerk reaction, IMO.

Ever regret passing on a shot?

I passed a 4x4 on the Kaibab one archery season at 32 yards trying to hold out for a giant I had scouted earlier in the summer that was always with him.......of course he wasn't that morning. My hunting partner was smarter than I and arrowed the buck I passed 3 days later. Yeah, I was too darn greedy....netted 184 and some change. Never again!

    6 - 400” bulls - Can it be done?

There’s usually a few real 400” bulls killed every year, so I would think this year it will be done.
  19. BOHNTR

What do you think this bull will score?

I would guess around 310-320” net. Left beam, G4 and G3 bring it down quite a bit, IMO. Gorgeous bull though.

    Any recent velvet pics?

Honestly, I really couldn't confirm, as it all happened fast as he was getting out of my field. I 'think' he's a 7x7......if so, he's a giant for this unit??? He hasn't been back for me to confirm.....just a few smaller 320-330" type bull(s).

    Any recent velvet pics?

I tried to talk myself out of thinking it.....but looking through my binos he looked big for the short glimpse I had of him.

    Any recent velvet pics?

Not great quality....but off my deck this am at daybreak.
