This is my first trail cam and I'm still working out the kinks (wrong date on the pics, for example) but got some coyote pics last night. Next, I'll try the video function. Also, I found that Jason's Covert II (SG 550) review and all the comments thereto apply to the covert II. But without further ado, here are the pics:

Well done! And it looks like it might have been three generations out in the field. Way to pass it on. That's what life's all about! The smile his first pig put on his face is priceless.

Covert II Trail Cam from CWT.com
Jimmer Negamanee replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Trail Cameras
Yes, finally success with my coyote pic quest. And yes, I used an attractant. It’s a little concoction I call “coyote crack.” It consists of a mixture of saved grease from cooking various and sundry meats throughout the week and a not so secret ingredient, dog food. Warm up the grease, add the dog food and voila, coyote crack. The corridor where I run my digital trap line (of one trail cam) is pretty narrow. I figure there are about 25 yds of right of way to the east and west of the railroad tracks. But I thought I’d put something smelly and tasty in front of my cam to help my odds a little. Being in the city limits, people also walk their dogs there (it’s not far from a dog park.) So, I also got a pic of one English Pointer and a Rhodesian Ridgeback who also think coyote crack is quite nifty. Thanks for the trail cam, Amanda. I am having a blast! -
I'll tell him you said so. You're right though, I was just the tool wrangler. The only thing I did was help with the positioning of the antlers. But after it was all done (and the antlers secured in an unmoveable position) a friend who's taken some huge coues bucks said I might have "cheated on the spread a little." Oops. I'll chalk that up to inexperience. But like the folks on here were kind enough to say, it's a great reminder of time spent with in the outdoors with a kid who's growing up fast.

That's a great shed for anyone! And to have a matching set is just awesome. It's very generous of you to give it to your friend. But you could also share it with your buddy by exchanging the set on a predetermined day. Or use the set as a traveling trophy when you loose a bet. (Maybe I've given this too much thought. Do what you want with it. )

If you are asking about elk, I'd say March/April is prime shed hunting time. Maybe mosly March. I once found a matching rag-horn set on the last weekend in February but they were still attached to an elk and moving about 25 mph. Generally the bigger the antlers, the earlier they fall so I'm sure there may be big ones that drop in February, I've just not found them. As for coues, probably April/May. Not sure about mulies. But Grong, AZAntlerhead, SilentButDeadly, and many others on this site have forgotten more about shed hunting than I"ll ever know. Maybe they"ll chime in with their thoughts. To the extent anything they say conflicts with anything I say, go with what they say. I'll do the same. Good luck and have fun!

+ 1 Great job glassing that up! Cool lookin' dog too. I can't wait to start looking for fresh drops. My faithful (but useless) shed dog can't either.

Anyone know how much govenors elk tag sold for
Jimmer Negamanee replied to EagleEye's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Amen, Brother. It would be great if life was relative. I could go into AZGFD and say "I would like to buy the Governor's Tag for the princely sum of $489.60. You heard me correctly, Sir, four hundred eighty-nine dollars and sixty cents." That would be sweet. If I had the dough, I'd do it. I hope he spends a lot on the guide too. I think it's great. He's helping AZ wildlife and hopefully helping to support a family that makes their living in the outdoors. You can't beat that. -
Great pics! Thank you for sharing. I'm lookin' forward to the pics of you holding his rack and smiling.

That's a big ol' cat!

I found this probably 15 years ago while quail hunting. It was laying in the middle of a wash so I figure it washed down from the mountains. I always thought sheep, having horns, did not shed but this one is just as I found it. You can see it's hollow. Maybe it was from a dead ram or maybe the outside kind of horn kind of sloughed off? I don't know. Any thoughts?

Elkaddict: How'd you find this? The only way I'd be able to find this is if I lost a contact and crawled around on all fours looking for it. Well done!

Great work! A matched set of spike sheds? You are indeed a shed whisperer. The big pick up is georgeous of course but the spike pick up with the antlers splayed to the sides is very cool looking too. COOSEFAN, I liked your line "stop looking for sheds and just start looking?" That was better than any Zen master advice Grasshopper ever got on Kung Fu (an old T.V. show for those too young to remember.) Not to get too Zen but, Tyson, if you sit quietly and listen carefully you will hear the sound of one hand clapping. Don't worry, it's just me applauding your very productive 2008 year of shed hunting. I can't wait for the pics of your 2009 haul. Good luck and Happy New Year! -Jim

Scoutguard 550 trail cams are in!
Jimmer Negamanee replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Store
Trail cams are quite an investment, enough to make a belt and suspenders approach seem completely reasonable. Maybe you could sell these (for the 550 and the Covert II) through the the CWT store. -
Tikka T3 Lite misfire?
Jimmer Negamanee replied to az4life's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I'm sorry that you had that happen during a hunting situation. Ultimately a rifle has one thing to do at that is go "Boom" when you pull the trigger. Although I've never had that happen to me, as a Tikka owner, I am disappointed. Mine really likes Federal Premium ammo too. And although it's probably hoping against hope, especially with good factory ammo, is there any chance it was a bad primer? I don't know how you would test for that to rule that out. Someone here probably does though. -

Very nice work! Does the cover go over the security box or do you use it in lieu of a security box? -
That's tiny! Is that a shed or a broken tine tip? Either way, I can't imagine how you would have found that. Good work!

Outdoorsmans Tripod Adapter Question
Jimmer Negamanee replied to Siwash's topic in Optics and tripods
I have the Outdoorsmans quick release adaptor and I know that adaptor needs a special binocular stud to grab on to. Maybe you have the wrong stud? Give Outdoorsmans a call. I've always found their customer service to be excellent. -
Awesome pick up! Great wood work too. The outline of AZ is a very nice touch.

That's a beautiful picture! Thank you and Merry Christmas to you. P.S. My copy of How to Hunt Coues Deer is tattered and worn. Thanks for that too.
