    TIKKA LITE your take?

Welcome! When talking about music, Duke Ellington once said “If it sounds good, it IS good.” You can say the same about a rifle: “If it shoots good, it IS good.” If I read you post right you shot a 1.5 inch groups at 300 yds? Yeah, I’d say that’s a shooter. I have a Tikka T3 lite stainless in .308 and I really like it. Good luck on your hunt!

Reccomend any good books for me?

This thread is pin worthy IMHO. With Bill and Tony making suggestions, you can't go wrong.

    Attention football fans.

Vikings 35, Red Birds 14. Ouch! I'm sure you enjoyed the game. Listening to it wasn't easy. Winning definitely makes the trip home go by faster. Congratulations on the victory.

Custom Security Box for Scoutguard trail camera

I just ordered mine 1/2 hour ago and went ahead and ordered the security box from the website. (I had to move quickly before my wife changed her mind on letting me pick this up for my big 4 0 b-day.) Who ever else is considering the SG 550, now is the time to go for it! P.S. Great festive new lay out!

Custom Security Box for Scoutguard trail camera

That looks bullet proof! Has anyone taken advantage of this yet? I ask because I'm ordering one of the SG550s today but if this lock box is gone, I'll go ahead and add one of the other ones to my order. Thanks.

    New Rifle...

where can you buy the tikka local i am left handed and sound like a nice gun Most places carry them. Any of the major stores (Cabelas, Bass Pro, or Sportsman's Wherehouse) will usually have them in a fairly large selection of calibers and configurations. Check their ads for because they also put them on sale fairly often. You may want to call ahead before you drive too far to make sure they have a lefty for you to hold. Good luck.

    ScoutGuard rocks!

Clay Thompson mentioned Amanda's video (w/ the web address) in his Arizona Republic column called Valley 101. It's in today's (12/9) edition on page B8.

    New Rifle...

Although I caution you that hunting or shooting advice from me is worth exactly what you pay for it, here are my $.02. I have a Tikka T3 lite stainless in .308 and I really like it. It’s smooth. It’s more accurate than I am. And it is light. It is also in your price range. Here is a pro review (if the link works): http://www.ozarkguns.com/rifles/tikka/tikka_FS_review.htm Here’s a con review (Chuck Hawks HATED it): http://www.chuckhawks.com/critical_look_T3.htm To add to Red Rabbit’s suggestion, here’s a review of the Vanguard and the T3 (Basically, it says that what will work best for you is a matter of personal preference. No one can argue with that.): http://www.chuckhawks.com/rugged_vs_refined.htm I need a rifle that is good to go right out of the box. I would never tinker with a trigger and if I reloaded it would probably be dangerous. My Tikka can shoot MOA from a bench at the range with factory ammo which made me very happy. It did not, however, keep me from missing a spike at 300 yds this year when I was down south with 4Huntrs and Ajohunter. Good luck on your quest. Let us know what you end up with.

    Need a pistol

Interesting topic. Of course, because there is no “perfect” all around gun, the real answer (and the fun) is found in owning a nice variety. SBD has a good suggestion. A revolver is simple and reliable. Plus, with a .357 you can always plink with .38s for less recoil which might be a plus for the wifey. TwoGuns has a good suggestion too. The Springfield XD9 (9mm) comes in a variety of barrel lengths and you can add cool stuff to it. The XDs come stock with gun and magazine holsters and available high capacity magazines. I like the idea of his and hers XD9s with extra magazines so you can throw magazines to each other if you are ever “pinned down.” Granted, not every (okay, any) hiking trip will end up like a scene from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid but it’s nice to have options. Like everything in life, it’s about compromises (for the ultimate answer, see 1st paragraph). Barrel length increases accuracy but increases weight. Magazine capacity increase the amount of lead sent down range between reloads but also increases weight. Weight might not seem important in a gun showroom but means a lot after a day (or several) in the field. There are places where you can shoot it before you buy it which I think is a good idea. Good Luck and let us know what you end up with!

    Looking for residential tile installation

    Thanks! -Jim
  18. My wife let me hunt coues for an entire week in October. Now I have to live up to my promise of letting her replace some carpet which she alternately describes as "disgusting" and "an embarrassment" with tile. (I don't think it's that bad but a deal's a deal.) We have some old but still good tile in the hallways and kitchen and although I doubt we can match it, we may do a border between the different rooms (and may have the old tile re-grouted). We live in Tempe. If anyone knows a good residential tile installer who works in the Phoenix area, feel free to post it here (free advertising is always good) or PM me. Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

Her last sentence: "Today I still call it The Never Forget Hunt, or the Adventure Hunt." That's priceless.

    couple shed videos

there are a few videos in my folders, you're all welcome to look at them. T Cool. I wasn't trying to snoop but when the video didn't come up I resorted to the tried and true IT solution of clicking on stuff until something happened. Thanks for the permission.

    couple shed videos

Thanks! Great shed video and video of some nice bucks. When I tried to access the first one I also stumbled on to a video of some game cam pics set to music. That was very cool too.

    recession?

I don't know how much firearm/ammo sales contribute to GDP but it sounds like a "stimulus package" over there at BPS. I heard J & G has also been packed. I guess I shouldn't hold my breath for that Springfield XD9 I've been eyeing to go on sale. Dang.

    Varmit hunting

As far as coyotes go, I understand not wanting to shoot them for non-consumptive reasons. I’ve heard, though, that wildlife rehabilitation places are more than happy to take the meat to feed to the animals they are rehabilitating. So that might be an option. I’ve also heard the “keeps ‘em honest” theory on this very site (don’t remember who made it though.) Basically, the theory is that shooting coyotes (or lions, etc.) makes them respect/fear people and keeps them from indulging their overly opportunistic side which can bring them into conflict with humans. Conflict with people sometimes ends badly for the person but always ends badly for the critter. Both sides benefit if we teach them to skedaddle at the sight/sound/scent of people, the theory goes. It makes sense to me. I’ve not varmint hunted yet but reserve the right to do it down the road. I agree with Desert Bull. I will fight to keep it legal. To each his own. It’s good that you are thoughtfully approaching the topic. I’m sure you’ll come up with the answer that is right for you.
