I use the Walkstool Comfort 45cm/18in version for glassing and I love it. Be aware of the difference between the Comfort and Basic models and the different sizes though. I'm every bit of 6'0" sans shoes and and I bought the large, 55cm/22in version at first because most of my other stuff is size large. But I found it is too high for me to be comfortable extended glassing periods. (Tends to cut the circulation on my legs after a while.) I've not sold it because it's great for other stuff like serving as a suitcase stand for visitors. I also bring a glassing pad by Phoenix Shooting Bags and switch back and forth depending on how high the vegetation is and how my back is feeling.

I wear one every time I go out if I'm going to be around other people and can't social distance. It's easy. I don't think it's the boot of an authoritarian government on my neck. I think it's common sense. It's an airborne virus that can be passed by coughing or sneezing (maybe even just breathing close to someone). Does a mask stop every virus? Probably not. But if you cough out 1000 viruses and only a couple make it out past the mask, that's still helpful. We all have to assume that we are asymptomatic carriers. For those who think it's the first step to gun confiscation I'd say those people are irrationally attached to slippery slope arguments. For those who say "My body, my choice. Do you agree Libtards?" I'd say they are irrationally attached to false equivalencies. Donning a mask for a couple hours while out in public is nothing like the emotional and physical pain of being the victim of rape or incest (which is also rape) then having to carry the baby to full term and give birth to it. Argue against mandatory masks if you want, just be logical and intellectually honest about it. I wear a mask mostly to show respect for other people. The check out person at Home Depot is working hard but comes face to face up to 100 people a day. I bet me wearing a mask makes that person feel better. Really it's to protect others. Here's an analogy: https://stevenpressfield.com/2020/04/how-the-spartans-would-fight-covid-19/ In the end, if you don't want to wear one, you be you. To each his own. Nobody's going to get cited for it. If I see you in public, I won't say anything to you. Like I'm sure if you see me wearing one in public you won't say anything to me. And I hope you don't get the dang virus and that nobody you love gets it either because we're all in this together.

2006 Yamaha Grizzly 660 4x4 *Trying to find guy who bought this*
Jimmer Negamanee replied to Tannert's topic in Classified Ads
Glad you found the buyer. Did MVD have the buyer's name and your address or your name and address? Weird bureaucratic mix up either way. -
I’m sorry for your loss. You and Mags had a heck of run together. And it’s so cool she brought you one last bird (even if it was one of your mounts). She had a job to do and she did it until the end. You’re also so right about doing what’s best for the animal. Surgery? Chemo? She would just wonder why you’re doing that to her. The dog in my avatar is the best dog I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a lot of good dogs. She’s starting to be unsteady on her legs. I have to focus on enjoying her in the moment, not preemptively missing her. RIP Mags. You earned it.

If you don’t need a bed maybe a Toyota 4Runner or the even bigger Toyota Sequoia would work. Everything locks inside, no dust, and a roof rack can help haul extra cargo if necessary. My mom has a Sequoia with over 300K miles on it. The thing won’t quit. I agree with Mulepacker that it’s hard to go wrong with just about any vehicle these days. The design, machining, and tolerances are so much better than they used to be. Some of us remember the Merle Haggard song Are the Good Times Really Over? One of the lines goes “Wish a Ford and a Chevy would still last ten years like they should.” Well that song came out in 1981 which was if not the low point, very near the low point, of American automobile design and manufacturing. (Those of you who remember the Chrysler K cars will understand.) That’s when the Japanese got their foothold. Post-WWII Anti-Japanese sentiment had started to fade, the Japanese cars were cheap and once purchased, proved reliable and long lasting, and, as Merle Haggard observed, American cars were lacking, The media would bemoan the decline in “American workmanship” like it was the workers’ fault that American cars tended to be uninspired and unreliable. That always pissed me off. It wasn’t American workmanship that declined. It was American design and engineering that declined (no doubt assisted by the bean counters who saw more profit in designing a car that needed more frequent replacement). That trope of the decline in American workmanship was proven false when Japanese companies started manufacturing some of their cars here. Those vehicles, assembled by Americans, were just as good as the ones assembled in Japan. My family is originally from Michigan and it used to not be an issue of buying an American car, it was a matter of which American car you bought. If your neighbor worked for Ford, you bought a Ford. If they worked at the GM plant, you bought a GM. I agree with every fiber of my being that it's important to buy American goods whenever possible but in a globalized world, the issue is nuanced. My 18 year old, 1st Gen. Nissan Xterra is still my daily driver and huntin’ rig. I had the transmission rebuilt at 200K miles but it’s still chugging along. (When I bought it, I wanted a 4Runner but couldn’t afford it.) When I bought my Xterra, my dad gave me a hard time about buying “Jap crap” I told him my Xterra was made by Americans in Tennessee. When I asked him where is Chevy Tahoe was made he had to admit is was made in Mexico. So which is the American car? So here’s my preference, in order: Made in America by an American company (Obviously) Made in America by a foreign company (I value American workers over American CEOs) . Made abroad by an American company (I value American CEOs over foreign workers) Made abroad by a foreign company Not only is this a preference, meaning it will break a tie if the choice is close, but I’m willing to pay more, significantly more, to support American workers. For those complaining about the decline of America today, I’ll post a link to the Merle Haggard song. So if you want to go back to a better time, you’ll have to go back more than 40 years because Ol’ Merle was complaining about the same thing back then. Enjoy:

Shouldn't be too much of an insurance mess. Seems like the oil change/car wash place should cover the loss through their premises liability/property damage insurance. Or they should pay out of their pockets if they don't have a coverage for that damage. I hope they're not expecting you to run in through you daughter's policy.

Very interesting and entertaining thread. This was my grandfather's knife. The sheath on the right is the original sheath (as far as I know) and the one on the left a custom sheath I had made for it with my grandfather's initials in Greek (his native language) and a whitetail deer for all his time hunting whitetails in Michigan. He was one of my heroes in life and this knife is a priceless heirloom to me. I know it's a KA-BAR but apart from that and a little family oral history, I don't know much about it. If you do, I'd love to hear your thoughts or guesses. Pics of the tang stamps are below as well. (I'd guess it was made in the '50s but I could be off by a decade or more in either direction.) *Edit: an Internet search shows what looks like the same tang stamp with a range of 1927-1945. Pic below. That would make since based on what I know about the family history of this knife.
-
It's a KA-BAR. I can't read what it says under the KA but I'll try posting pics of the stamping here. If anyone knows anything about the history of this knife (model, dates of manufacture, etc.) I'd love to hear it and I'd add it to the family history when it gets handed down.

This guys is in North Tucson/Oro Valley are and does great work. https://www.thorshammercustomleather.com/ He did a custom sheath for a hunting knife that was my grandfather's and will be my son's some day. Every mark on the sheath is meaningful but the fact that it holds my grandfather's knife makes it a working heirloom. Here's a pic: Read his "How to Order/Contact me" section of his website. He certainly comes off a curmudgeonly but in a way that makes you smile. I've not met him in person. Whoever you choose, post pics of the final product. I think leather work of all kinds is cool.

Issues with outdoorsman stud installed on 10x42el’s
Jimmer Negamanee replied to Sky Islands's topic in Optics and tripods
Call Outdoorsmans. They send them to the Payson to have the tripod/stud manufacturer install them on ELs. I think they have an agreement with Swarovski that allows them to do that without voiding the Swarovski warranty. I've not heard of anyone doing a DIY Outdoorsmans stud installation on ELs. From the Outdoorsmans shop it's about a 1 week turn around. -
Yep, in the Campfire section. Good luck in your search. If you get one, post puppy pics por favor.

This is my old yellow lab, Lady. She once licked the tears off my daughter's face. Can't ask for a better dog than that. (She also growled at my ex-spouse. So she was also an excellent judge of character. That was a plus.) She's gone now but I'll always miss her.
-
On this, you and I agree.

I'm sorry for your loss. All puppies are cute but lab puppies are the cutest puppies on Earth. I hope someone posts pics. I could use the pick-me-up 'bout now.

The old saying, often attributed to Mark Twain, goes: "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies, and statistics." This article has an interesting graphing showing COVID-19 deaths per day compared to other major causes of death per day. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/04/the-rapid-increase-of-u-s-coronavirus-deaths-in-one-graphic.html The graph is animated and the date is in the lower right. Looks like it was last updated on 4/28. Any day more than 1774 people die of COVID-19 in a day, COVID-19 is the leading cause of death for that day. As of this typing, we're at 1846 deaths and the day is not over yet (but will be soon because they go by GMT). https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ If you don't want to go by day and just by total deaths, consider that approximately 58,220 Americans died in the Vietnam War in a roughly ten year stretch (approx. '65-'75). Well, in the four months COVID-19 has been with us, as of this typing, 61,112 Americans have died of COVID-19. Despite our best efforts to stop it. I've not seen any evidence that this is a government hoax. And I can't see how such a hoax would benefit anyone, including our elected leaders. I understand it's frustrating to curtail our activities and this is having a huge economic cost. I also understand that the chances of dying from it if one contracts it is in the 1 to 2 % range. But I also understand that those that die from it are not statistics, they are people. People with family and friends that loved them. Couple that with the recent evidence suggesting that the virus might be airborne longer than we thought, it seems that being careful is the prudent thing to do.

They used the passive voice in that they reported simply that the " coatimunidi [sic] was shot and killed ." I'm hoping it was the elderly person that killed the coati because her dog got into it with the coati. If the coati stuck around for G&F or other LEO to kill it, I'd guess the coati was rabid. Rabies is not good news for anyone.

Michigan Governor Bans Boating and Fishing From a Power Boat
Jimmer Negamanee replied to deercrazy's topic in The Campfire
AZ8, by "I'm out" I hope you mean just out of this gol dang motor-boating thread. If, however, you mean out of CWT.com, then I beg you to reconsider. Not that my opinion means anything to you but your voice is valuable here. PM me if you'd like. I'll PM you back. You're welcome around my campfire anytime. -
Michigan Governor Bans Boating and Fishing From a Power Boat
Jimmer Negamanee replied to deercrazy's topic in The Campfire
Agreed 100%. One political persuasion accuses the "other" side of being easily "triggered" then gets "triggered" themselves because someone (maybe even a Russian bot farm) posts a picture and adds context and commentary not based on the reality of the situation. We need to be able to talk politics "with" each other not "at" each other. We can listen to each other, ask questions, provide our input, maybe reach common ground, maybe not, but we can be cool about it. And we can do all that without blowing an ACL jumping to the conclusion that our fellow American hates our country and actively works for its demise. Regarding the ban on power boats in MI, I can say as someone from originally from western Michigan, pontoon boats are close-quarter party barges and speed boats are pretty close. Maybe the order could have been more narrowly tailored but I can see the logic behind it. -
Awesome! I've been waiting for someone to post their finds! Great matching set. Thanks for posting!

Post pictures of your finds! We could all use the diversion.

Great info! I'm so happy they do that. You made my post obsolete and I'm thrilled! This policy really reduces the sting of this situation when a card goes bad either by expiration or fraud. Thanks for posting.

I'm sorry that happened. I've never kept my order # so I would have been in the same boat. I'll do that from now on though. And you'd think if they give you a bonus point for an app. rejected due to an invalid CC# (thanks for the info Flatlander) they'd let you keep your loyalty point under the "at least you tried" theory. It would make sense because your card was good at the time of the app. and they took the app. fee. If you earned a bonus point AND you kept your loyalty points it would reduce the pain and frustration to just the disappointment of not getting drawn for a hunt which you probably would not have gotten drawn for if your card was valid.
