    Unit 23 Burros Coues

Congratulations on a great tag! My buddy and I drew that hunt last year and had a great time. Of the Arizona units you have listed I have hunted 22 and 31 and I would say it's kind of like hunting the terrain of 31 with the deer numbers of 22. Seeing 8-12 deer a day with a buck or two per day was about the norm. I passed a couple 90 inchers and my buddy shot a nice 92 inch buck on the last morning. If I were you I would call Tommy at Gila Wilderness Hunting and inquire about his map service. We used it and it was spot on. You will find out quickly that there are not coues deer spread out evenly across the Burros. Like many coues areas in AZ they are in pockets and are very spotty. You could spend a lot of time and gas money and still not accomplish what you will get from him. Tommy lives in the unit and knows exactly where to put you and he's also a sponsor of the site. http://www.gilawildernesshunting.com/

Congrats on the draw Tim and good luck! Looks like its gonna be a great year (hopefully you can get enough time off). Already looking forward to the pictures. Phil Phil, that's one of the perks of being self employed

    Draw Results

I got a couple emails from NM G&F a little while ago. One says I drew a Burro Mountian rifle mule deer tag and the other says I drew a rifle antelope tag! Now I have two antelope tags for September! This is the fourth year out of the last five that I have drawn a NM antelope tag!!!

    DLC Covert II

Yes, as Amanda pointed out it does have the three shot capeabilities. In my opinion with the SD cards having 2 or more gigs of memory there is no reason not to set it to three shots. I've had numerous pictures in the past that showed a promising lookin buck that moved away before another picture could be taken. The three shot option can often solve that anoying problem. Mike, I know the solar panel is a practical solution to paying the price for batteries, but in my opinion it acts like a signal beacon leading scum bag theives right to your expensive camera. I'd rather pay a little extra for batteries and keep the camera well hidden than have to buy a new camera when a puke theif takes it. Just my .02 Here's an example of a three shot series of two bucks fighting like does.

If that statement is true (and I think it might be) Americans ought to be ashamed of themselves!!!!

    Covert Trail Cameras

Hey guys a few months ago I got a DLC Covert II with security box to test and review. I've owned at least 10 different kinds of trail cameras over the years including home brews and this one takes the cake. I hope to have my evaluation finalized and posted in the next couple days. Stay tuned for the full write up.
  9. Yes Jason it was all made crystal clear when Rush completley ignored the situation. Furthermore the hunting community shouted back a response of indefference by not holding him accountable Hope that answers the question I'm starting to realize that hunters and gun owners have a lot that we could learn from all the anti groups. We are very reactive they are very proactive. Proaction = Reaction with a plan.
  10. This is not a question of weather your copper bullets performed well on deer north of the Grand Canyon. This is a question of weather or not you want to have more of your hunting and gun rights taken away by left wing activist groups. Who cares if your bullets flew straigt or left a good blood trail. None of that matters. We need to stop letting new laws like this creep in on our hunting and second ammendment rights.

    Cola Blanca Outfitters

I have hunted with Dan for the past three years now and have had nothing but a great experience each time. Dan puts a lot of effort into these hunts and as the pictures have shown it pays off. Mexico is a magical place when it comes to trophy coues deer and each year I've spent down there seems to get better than the previous. We always enjoy good food, good accomidations, and good company. For the most part we have hunted from sun up to sun down and we usually see a ton of deer! The pictures speak for themselves on the trophy quality! I believe every serious coues deer hunter should make it a point to spend a week chasing big bucks in Mexico and there's no better place to do it than with Dan Bishop at Cola Blanca Outfitters!

I'd like to hear your perspective....

hello- Sorry - i hope this wasn't how it was meant -- rightfully his area !? That alone would have my hackle up - ok it's only archery deer - but bottom line - nobody can lay claim to a specific spot just because they hunted the area in years past . - ok - you compromise and move on- how many times are you gonna be willing to move on ! Gary He's just being sarcastic

I'd like to hear your perspective....

Gino if you're like me there are two things going through your mind. First, who does this SOB think he is and I'll show him where the little bear pooped in the forest! Second, oh well if there are going to be other people hunting this spot I don't want to be here anyway. Move on. You've got better places to hang your stand than this one and it's not worth your tax money being used to throw you in jail after you clean this guys clock!

    Check this out!!

I'm kinda glad it works so well.
  15. Lets say you've got a tag in your pocket and your weapon of choice in hand. This buck presents a shot well within your personal comfort zone and it's the middle of a week long hunt. Everything is legal. That's it, no more what if's. Do you shoot or let him pass?

To shoot?... or not to shoot?

Thanks for the pic's Jack! Especially the forward hooking buck. I saw him on several occaisions last year but never close enough to get a good look. Here is a pic of his father or older brother from the year before. This was my all time favorite buck. My kids and I named him Fish Hook and we would go for family drives during the summer to see him. How about this one everyone. Shoot or Pass???

To shoot?... or not to shoot?

Scottyboy, what hunt/unit did you draw? I've got 19A north muzzy. Sounds like you and I are looking for about the same thing. Jack, of course that's the correct answer. I'm just trying to have some fun to pass the time. Elkaholic, interesting perspective. For me personally if I was only going to get one antelope in a lifetime I'd want it to be as big a buck as possible, not just average. Nothing wrong with what you're saying, just my .02 cents. I think part of the reason people shoot smaller antelope is because people don't know what to look for in a big buck. That's one of the reasons I started this topic is to see what the average Joe hunter would consider a shooter if they had a tag. Thanks everyone, and keep tuning in... I'm just getting started!

To shoot?... or not to shoot?

I actually took that picture with Blake back on April 4th when he still had quite a bit of growing to do. I Saw this buck again last night and I think he's now pushing 17 inches long. Sorry no pic's from last night. How many of you that passed him the first time would shoot him now that he is pushing 17 inches of horn length? Ok, here is buck #2. Same situation as the first. We call this buck Knot Head due to a large bump/knot on the back of his left horn just above his prong. Shoot or pass?

Is it raining where you live?

Prescott has been getting wet the last couple days. On and off slow soaking rain. Just enough to keep everything wet. I don't think there is a better time of year to get a good soaking like this.

Any pool sharks here on CWT.com

Here's a picture off the Olhausen website. This is not my table, but it is the same style. My table has a much lighter natural knotty pine finish, with forest green felt.

Any pool sharks here on CWT.com

I've got an 8 foot Olhausen that I'd sell. Three piece slate. I had it professionally taken down and moved about two years ago and don't have the room for it so it just sits all packaged up with no one to take care of it. I tried to sell it awhile back here on CWT and on Craigs list but no takers. I paid over 5K and would love to find it a good home. I'll try to get some pic's and post them. Make me an offer, It's taking up too much space.
  22. RR, thanks for posting that. Pretty cool results. In fact, I'm not sure why Barnes would even post it on their site. We all know that bullets kill by hydrostatic shock and from the looks of it to me both the Bergers and the Ballistic tips have much more hydrostatic shock than the Barnes bullets. I think I'll stick with my Bergers after looking at that data. I think Barnes wants hunters to think that penetration kills. Penetration is necessary to an extent, but in these tests both the Bergers and Ballistic tips have plenty enough penetration to kill deer and elk effictively. On a side note I also question the accuracy data. I think it's a pretty well known fact that many rifles have a difficult time shooting Barnes bullets with any consistency.

Congratulations on shooting a nice buck. Sounds like you had a world class adventure.

    Mike Monsoor

I think out of respect for the families the press was not allowed to photograph the caskets. Perhaps this photograph was taken by a friend or family member? Or perhaps the press was just not allowed to publish photographs without the families permission and they got permission in this case?
  25. Someone mentioned that they hope the NRA gets some good news coverage out of this. I watched Fox News last night and was very disappointed to say the least! The only angle that Fox covered on the convention was that it brought in about 72 million dollars to the state. They said that that is more than the NBA All Star game brought in. The only thing that they discussed in the coverage is what a great boost this show is to the Arizona economy. They even had Phx Mayor Phill Gordan sound bites on how happy he is to see all this money come into the State. That is a bunch of BS! They could have easily reported on the real issues at hand and the real reason that there were record crowds, and record dollars spent at this convention, but they rolled over like every other local news station and had nothing to say about the real story.
