Josh, Way to go man! It seems looking through magazines articles and such, dry ground hunting is a lost art and most houndsmen keep their clients "on call". It's good to see there are still a few that seem to have a handle on it. -Shiras

Coues 'n' sheep Nicely done. That dichotomous palmation is almost hybrid-like, but he definately looks Coues. Great job!! -Shiras

Wow. What an awesome trip!! Congratulations to you. I agree with .25-06, I too could spend the rest of my life there. Thanks for sharing. Maybe next year you'll get Kevin's bucks daddy!-Shiras

Mr Quimby, He has shot many an animal and communicated the emotion of losing an animal. The main point he was expressing is that with stick and string you ARE going to loose animals. That IS bowhunting. Especially traditional bowhunting. The statement isn't as flippant as it sounds. Has Gene or Barry ever lost an animal? They are arguably the best traditional bowhunters on Earth. He was telling me not to get to the point to where you get so down in the dumps or poignantly scrutinizing your performance so harshly that you never want to hunt again. After contemplating on his words of wisdom, I've come to realize that he is correct. -Shiras

Coocoo, I shot my first 2 point this year with a bow and lost him. He fell down at the shot (on his side) bled BUCKETS for 60 yards, full pass thru. Problem was is that I overanalyzed it since he fell down at the shot, I thought "there is no way he could have gone anywhere!" I got out of my stand immediately. DUMB!!!!!!!!!! Never did find him, but then again, I ran out of time and daylight. Even if he doesn't show, I felt the same way. I wanted to trash my bow and stop bowhunting (but not hunting altogether). After talking to what I believe is one of the best traditional bowhunters in Oklahoma (37 recurve whitetail kills), he gave me a talking to that I will never forget. In a nutshell, he told me that "that's bowhunting". Dude has some unbelievable stories. Basically, it's going to happen. I'm heeding his advice. I'm just going to practice more. Hang in there. -Shiras

Incredible! 2 very respectable bucks, with bow, in the same day, in the same family. As good as it gets. -Shiras

Winchester rifle plant closing?
Shiras replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Oh man, I hope this doesn't start a trend......i.e. give the libs a foothold. All I know is that my Winchester 670 .30-06 will NEVER leave my family. It was given to me in '89 from my dad when he bought it in '67. It is going to my oldest son when he is 16. Hopefully it will end up in my great grandson's hands.-Shiras -
Check out this 2 pt!
Shiras replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Whatever he scores, he'd be on my wall in NY minute. Nice job Amanda. -Shiras -
About none to zilch Great job. Last year I found the worlds smallest coues shed in NM unit 23. I left it outside by the campfire and we got dumped on with 8" of snow. The next morning I was walking around looking for it and "crunch"......it is now held together with bondo !!!

The dichotomous configuration of the antlers leaves no doubt that it is of the non-whitetail species -Shiras

Holy eagle eyes Batman! What, did you glass that shed up in another state???? Ever tried glassing anything up on the moon? Awesome pictures and gorgeous country. Thanks again for sharing.-Shiras

Josh, I think it's time for some Thrasher mag camo. I really think that would do the trick. I bet you'd be able to "fastly plant" a carbon right behind the shoulder...no pun intended Good luck man. -Shiras

Lark, c'mon. Those dudes are TRUE BLUE cowboys and would in no way, shape or form rub off on deer. Deer don't emulate to be cowboys,....unless the deer had some 15x56's and were watchin' them REAL close. Creed, I did see a yearling buck this year (eastern) mounting a doe this past November during the rut. He was about 3/4 her size and until I saw him jump on her back, I had no idea he was a buck. Could be the same scenario. -Shiras

Take your dog and shoot it
Shiras replied to Diamondbackaz's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
WHAT AN IDIOT! I would have used a shotgun. I'm sorry to any pitbull lovers out there, but I have a personal friend that his "precious doggie", that was SO tame, ripped off his daughter's face. She has no face. She is 7 years old now. It happened when she was 2. He had him in a pin, and broke through to attack her. STUPID on his part to even have such a barbaric animal, but anyone who protests this please explain to HER the reason these absolute genetic F***ups exist and why they shouldn't be exterminated. These dogs have no reason to exist on this planet. Kill 'em all. -Shiras -
dds, I'm not sure why I haven't seen this post before now, but congratulations. That is a grade A toad AND picture. -Shiras

Well put Tommy. I was beginning to think that those were telescopes glued together I bet those alone would have my i-net connection shut off!!! Scott, Thanks for the story and pics . Very informative and very entertaining (especially in a unit that was my 2nd choice) -Shiras

Sweet indeed, especially with a bow. A fine dichotomous specimen. Amanda, was this taken from the ground or was that information divulged to you? Sweet looking tarp (My new phrase for a toad carp )-Shiras

Dude was ancient! Looks like my great grandad's pie hole! Congrats! -Shiras

Oklahoma coming to hunt in January
Shiras replied to okie boy's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Are you a Texas transplant living up North of the border? I have to admit, I am not a UT fan, but they are representing the Big 12. I'll definately be rooting for them although taking on the Leinart/Bush/White trilogy looks like a daunting task at best. After the Notre Dame game, I think it was just their destiny to win #3. -Shiras -
Oklahoma coming to hunt in January
Shiras replied to okie boy's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Where you from Okie? Reading this forum for a while and staying quiet will be your best advice. Read Amanda's, Scott A's, coueselk, Josh E., threads....they know quite a bit. As Bowhuntinmaniac said, you had better be bowhunting ONLY, not just PRIMARILY. -Shiras -
what to carry for javelina
Shiras replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Just got a Ruger Redhawk D.A. .44 that would be perfect. The Blackhawk S.A. just wasn't fast enough for me .....so I'd have to wear that on the left hip Go handgun or bow. -Shiras -
az4life, I just prayed for you. Hopefully it comes through for you ! -Shiras P.S. I put you in for a 120 class.

Too far for a taxi or a friend to drop you off? Might save you some worries over the vehicle. -Shiras
