I have a buddy that has the 15x58 Minox and I had the Kaibabs, we looked through them side by side on tripods several times and we both agreed that the Minox were better. I have the Zeiss 15x56 now and love them. I still have my old Minox 13x56 that I have had for years and I like them better than the Kaibabs also. I have not looked through the Minox 15x56.

Back country backpack trip for Coues
Shawn replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I started using the sawyer in line filter last year and really like it. I put it on a bladder drink tube and gravity fill any water bags or other bladders I bring. I got sick of pumping water. It works great on clean water and weighs just a few ounces. I have not tried it on really dirty water yet. I always bring purifying tablets as a backup. I love backpack hunts! My last 4 rifle Coues hunts have all been backpack hunts and 2 have been solo. This year will be another solo as long as I get a tag. You have lots of time in the dark if its one of the later hunts so I bring my iPod. Nothing like listening to Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and George Strait anticipating the next days hunt. Very rewarding but can be very rough. As long as I can do it, rifle hunts will all be backpack hunts. -
Leftovers go fast now days. There is no guarantee on getting a leftover tag anymore.

I use 16 or 32 gb cards. I have most of my cams on 10 sec. video. I can get 500-1200 videos. I like having them up this time of year. It gives me something to do and I like seeing videos of all the critters.

1 can of fuel should be enough for 3 or 4 days. I always bring 1 full and 1 partial can, need to make sure I have enough for my morning coffee. They only weigh about 4 oz full. My favorite mountain house are chili mac or lasagna.

Stove - My stove is MSR pocket rocket, it weighs just a few oz. and has worked great. About $35 Water filter - I got sick of pumps when purifying water so last year I got sawyer inline water filter. Wish I would have got one years ago. I bring an extra empty bladder with the filter on the drink tube. I use it to gravity fill any bags and bladder I am using. Weighs just a few oz. $50 bucks or so Sleeping bag/pad - I have a Big Agnes Encampment 15 degree bag. Its a bigger bag. You can put your pad in the bottom of the bag so you don't slide around. Think it weighs about 3 1/2 pounds. Pad is big Agnes also and its little less than a pound. Around $150 or 175 for bag and around $90 for pad. Tent - ALPS mountaineering lynx 1. Rain fly has a gear storage that I can put my pack in if needed. It weighs about 3.5 pounds. Got it on Amazon less than $100 normally like $150. Really like it. This is what has worked me and my budget. Not the lightest stuff but its not to heavy. Honestly I don't see any need for me to upgrade any of this stuff anytime soon.

I have been running into snakes constently hiking. Like most I have had some very close calls over the years. I have snake gaiters that I use Aug. archery hunting and scouting. They are whitewater brand. They are just very hot and uncomfortable. When trail hiking in Saguaro monument east I am in shorts and no gaiters. I defiantly don't want a snake bite to mess up my Sep. bull hunt or worse. Does anybody use gaiters that are half way comfortable that they wear with shorts? Thanks

I have had plantar fasciitis and still get it after bigger hikes of 8+ miles. I have to have boots that my feet like. I have Lowa Renegades for trail hikes now but I am going to try something else when they are done . I am sold on Danner Pronghorns and Meindl Perfekt hikers for scouting, hunting. Has anybody tried the Danner Pronghorn snake boots? Could you do hikes on trails of 10 miles or so without killing your feet? That could be a option if they feel close the regular Pronghorns.

Thanks I will look into them. Just need something for hiking after work on trails. I have already walked up on 5 this year. I hike and hunt by myself 90% of the time. The older I get the more I think gaiters are the smart thing to do.

I have 2 brownings and several other brands. The brownings are the best cams I have. Thanks for the heads up

Thanks for the replies. Minox ended up saying they can fix them in the USA with 4 to 6 week turn around. Before I called them back I had decided to have them fixed anyway even if it was going to take 3 months. I don't think I could ever get rid of my 13x56. I have a buddy that has the 15x58 and they are awesome, I just never looked through the 15x56 BL.

I sent my Minox 13x56 BL in for repair. I know they do not make them anymore. They said that they would have to send them to Germany to get them fixed and that could take 2 1/2 months to get them back. Minox told me they could replace them with the 15x56 if I wanted. I have had my 13x56 for years and love them. My Minox are my backup pair of binoculars now, I got the Zeiss 15x56. I was wondering if anyone has looked through the 13x56 and 15x56? Are the 15s as good as the 13s? Thanks
