MI man fined and revoked for killing elk too close to homes
Sundevils79 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
If I'm not mistaken the AZ law has been 1/4 mile from any occupied structure as long as I can remember. I'm sure his home state of Michigan has a very similar law. If this dummy can afford to pay $135,000 for a tag he certainly should be able to read to laws. Does it suck that some of the biggest animals always seem to be camped on some anti-hunters front yard? Yes, but the law is the law. It no different for any of the rest of us...should he be shown special consideration cause he paid so much money? Heck no....just think of the extra $15k as a trophy fee. As for the guide his guide license should have been revoked for the term that the hunter got. I have never taken the AZ guide test nor will I ever but the requirement to pass the ethics portion must consist of just being able to spell your name. Some of the biggest law breakers and poachers I have ever known seem to always have a current AZ guide license. -
I would just suggest that nobody go hunting with DesertBull if you don't want your so called secret spots sold to Johnny California as I heard it called. One of two things is going on with this situation...either you are selling people bogus information or you are selling them quality product ie "secret spots", "honey holes" or whatever you might call them. The game and fish already does a good enough job with their website and newsletters telling hunters general areas to find game so I'm not sure what sets your product apart from that unless you are selling the some "honey holes". I'm with many of the other posters on here in that I guess i don't care either way whether people tell where they are killing animals and whether people are asking. I often would like to know where animals are killed as I have hunted most of the units are one time or another in this state and it is interesting to me to see what the quality of game in those units might be, doesn't mean I'll be there next year hunting. I guess I just have a problem with anyone who e-scouts or goes blindly into a hunt in hopes the stumble across someone who has done their homework and is willing to share some information. I grew up in the White Mountains and have over the past 15 years watched that area go from a small group of local archery hunters evolve into any idiot with a $200 bow slinging arrows. None of them have any knowledge of the area nor do they ever scout, the just showed up every August and drive around in the woods all day. The part that stinks is that these guys killed deer granted most are wounded and never recovered but they killed deer to the point where the deer herds in most of these mountain units are abysmal at best. These are the same hunters that I guess you are targeting with your website and quite honestly it is a lazy way to hunt and this type of hunting correlates right into the taking of animals ie the wounded never recovered. Maybe I'm weird in that if I were to go out and kill an animal based on a map I bought for $29.95 on the web it would definitly take away from my hunt experience versus doing my homework and scouting. Guiding kinda falls into this category but that is whole other can of worms I don't want to open. I guess I was just raised different or have a different outlook on hunting. I take it as a challenge to learn new hunt areas and harvest animals from those areas....most importantly I do it MYSELF. Just my two cents on the subject.

Sundevils79 replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Once every ten years isn't a bad average....if you're a comet. Don't forget to watch BYU beat down Northern Nogalas Tech on Dec. 20 in Vegas. -

Rosemont Mine
Sundevils79 replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The price of copper falling to the levels it is currently ($1.68 /lb) is not good for any of us and anyone who thinks otherwise is just an uneducated, ignorant individual. Personally I consider myself a conservationist as well and I will agree most of you that open pit mines are not the most glamorous of activities but on the other hand I also feel that God gave us this earth for our use. I think that mining along with logging or any other utilization of our natural resources is necessary for the survival of our civilization and unfortunately for all of us these resources are not always found in the undesirable areas of our earth. With regard to the development of the Rosemont mine it sucks that it is in such a nice area (one of which I do hunt) but there are many nice areas in the state of Arizona (and much better hunting areas) and in the realm of things you are talking about an very small area of impact in retrospect. I would urge all of you reading this thread to take some time and click on the link above as there is a lot of info (some slightly tilted as this is an opposition website) and make up your own mind. I have read through the executive summary of the operating plan and it appears to me that the mining company is promising (this is the key and honestly I can't guarantee they will live up to their promises no more than any of you can say they won't) they will minimize the impact as much as possible and have developed a reclamation program once the mine is done. The bottom line is everyone needs copper products, which is great as long as no one is mining the copper in my backyard right? I would love to hear from one person who can honestly say they live a copper-free life before they start spouting of about the big bad mining companies. Kind of reminds me of a tree hugger who lives in a wood house or a bunny lover who wears leather shoes....its called being a hypocrite. Once again this is only my opinion of the subject mater and i support everyone's right to state their opinion, just doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Jay -
Rosemont Mine
Sundevils79 replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I work in the copper mining industry and based on your radical statement above I take great exception to the fact that you are happy that copper prices are falling. I don't quite know how to say it nicely but what a ignorant statement. You should really do some research before you open you mouth to the impact that copper has on the economy of this nation and more importantly the State of Arizona. Whether or not you agree with the Rosemont mine i could care less but when you start talking about being happy about falling copper prices you sir directly affect my lively hood. I am not sure what you do for a living but I sure would not go around hoping that your business would fail. There are many many members of this forum who's living is made mining copper so I'm sure you have not made many friends today. -

Sundevils79 replied to Sundevils79's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
THe Catalina Elks lodge will take them in the Tucson area. It is a good cause so if you have a hide I recommend you try and donate it. -
Does anyone know if there is a place to drop off deer hides for the veterans in Tucson? I think the Disable Veterans or ELKS take them?

I had a similar instance at a Subway shop in Sahuarita last winter....A buddy and myself were out chasing some coyotes along and a we came into grab a quick bite and the conversation went kinda like this with an elderly pony-tailed gentlemen with a nice tie-dyed shirt on.... guy in line: "Are you hunting?" Me: "Yes were hunting" guy in line: "What are you hunting?" Me: "Varmits" Guy in line: "What kind of varmits." Me: "coyotes, foxes, and bobcats" Guy in line: "what do you do with them after you kill them" Me: " I skin them and sell or tan the fur" Guy in line: " do you eat the meat" At this point i look at my buddy and kind of give him the smirk. Me: "Not usually, why do you wanna try some" Guy in line: "What does it taste like?" Me: "Coyote is kinda crappy cause they eat a lot of dead stuff and its tough" Guy in line: "Are you gonna eat the ones you kill today?" Me: "Probably not today, but I can bring you some to try if you like" Guy in line: "Oh no thanks, I'm a vegetarian. I just think it is a shame to waste such precious little animals and not eat them" At this point I kinda just get move from messing with the guy to thinking what old bag of bones this burned out hippy was and the gag was over. But being the gentleman that I am i left his with one more offer for some coyote steak to which he kindly declined.

I put my camera out for about 28 hours last friday morning thru saturday afternoon and this is what I got........

Well I ended up getting the Brunton's and I must say I'm pretty impressed with them. For $313 on opticplanet.com you really can't go too wrong. I spent all weekend looking through them and no eye fatigue to speak of. Lots of frustration with a certain black bear but the glasses worked great. Thanks for all the advice and input.

Unit 27 is probably one of the toughest units to hunt for Coues as it is very thick and has some of the roughest terrain you will find in AZ. The best advice I can give you is try many of the long points along 191 between Morenci and Blue Vista (all wt country) and plan on spending plenty of time behind a pair of 15's. This unit will truly make you understand the "grey ghost" myth. Here are a couple bucks I got on trail cam on Saturday in that unit. Just have patience and be prepared to hike a little.

PETA, PETA, PETA!
Sundevils79 replied to JHAM357's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
From PETA website..... Update: In response to our letter, Ben and Jerry's issued the following statement: "We applaud PETA's novel approach to bringing attention to an issue, but we believe a mother's milk is best used for her child." Hey, guys, that's our point: Cow's milk is for baby cows. Storchen, a (very innovative) restaurant in Switzerland, has just announced that they will be unveiling a new menu that includes soups, stews, and sauces made with at least 75 percent human breast milk. Some folks might think that drinking human breast milk is strange … but really, what's even stranger is that humans are the only species on the planet that drinks the milk of another species. Storchen's new menu got us thinking … which product would be fabulously awesome if it were made with breast milk instead of cow's milk? (Light bulb!) Ben and Jerry's! So we wrote a letter to the good people at Ben and Jerry's, asking them to switch from cow's milk to breast milk. We explained that using cow's milk for their ice cream is a hazard to consumers' health. Even Dr. Spock spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it may play a role in the onset of anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and, in the long term, can set kids up for a lifetime of obesity and heart disease (America's number one cause of death). Bill Maher Ad But it's not all about us humans. Animals will also benefit from the switch to breast milk. Because, like all mammals, cows only give milk during or after pregnancy, in order for humans to constantly milk them, they are forcefully impregnated every nine months. Many live in filthy conditions and are forced to give 10 times more milk than they would naturally. It's truly an awful life. So think about it, Ben and Jerry's. We here at PETA would be super-stoked if your ice cream went vegan … we'd buy it by the truckload! Posted by Carrie Ann Harris ------------------------------------- NEXT MONTH HEADLINE....... PETA ASKS MCDONALDS TO USE 100% LEAN MANBURGER IN ALL BIG MAC'S... What planet do these people live on because there is no way its the same one I wake up on everyday. -

Ya i only posted on the hunting sites just for that reason. I an usually tell within a few minutes what people are going to do with the dogs. I still have 3 of them left. Two females and one male. IF you know of anyone wanting a bird dog in the making or just a great family dog. I took them out dove hunting and they definitely have the bug.
