    Most Prized Waterfowl

Are buffleheads common in az? I don't duck hunt but I get to look at a pond every few days that is full of buffleheads some canvas backs and some mallard hens. Those bufflehead drakes are beautiful and I've never heard about them in az.

    Dream Hunt of A Lifetime

Thanks again for letting me be part of this awesome experience. Reading that actually took me back to the moment. Your story does leave a few important details out though. One, it doesn't truly tell how much time and effort you put I to your hunts. You totally earned that deer. Two, you forgot to mention that your pack coming out of that country was 86 lbs! You look like a scrawny school girl next to me in those pictures but people need to know, you can muscle some gear into and out of the hills. Three, not one of those pictures truly does that deer justice. What a giant. I literally cannot wrap my hands around his base on the right side.

    Needle in Paradise

Tila has witnessed about 15 bucks get harvested so I'd say not. She's been in on multiple javelina and predator hunts too. She's pretty mild mannered and is only out wandering around while we are hiking. When were glassing or getting set up to shoot she's sitting or laying down next to me within 5 yards. She loves ching rabbits so while we're hiking and if a rabbit takes off she'll chase it so that's her only downfall but I figure if her chasing a rabbit will spook a deer we would have spooked it anyways from hiking. Generally, if we're rifle hunting, we try to glass any areas we expect to see a deer from a distance so it hasn't been an issue yet. All I have to do is snap my fingers and she comes right to me so if we're in a tight situation with a deer, I can keep her right at my feet. You'd be surprised by how many deer will actually Stand and watch you when you've got a dog with you. Even if she did spook a deer or two it would be worth it knowing that she's gonna alert me to any danger when we're walking in the dark especially in these southern units.

    Best az backcountry jacket.

I'm in the market for a new hunting jacket. I ordered a cabelas guide wooltimate jacket with windshear and then cancelled the order because I realized that I didn't want it bring home every kind of sticker and grass seed known to the desert and I also thought it might end up being a little heavy. I would like to spend under $200. I'm getting by right now with a cheap jacket but it's huge. I layer with either a wool or poly base layer followed by a poly shirt and a poly or wool vest. I'm basically trying to decide if a windproof jacket is necessary and if there are any down jackets that will handle coues country. I don't plan on wearing the jacket much while hiking but sometimes it happens. What are you guys using? The kuiu guide jacket has my attention. I wish it came in camo but not a deal breaker. The Super down Hoodie also looks appealing but it seems like it needs a soft shell or something else protecting it but I'm not sure. Thanks, Creed

    Best az backcountry jacket.

So I ordered a guide jacket in medium. I'm going to try and see how it fits. If it doesn't work I'll send it back. They basically don't have much in a large, guide jacket and Teton both included. I almost ordered the Chinook but figured the guide would serve my purposes a little better. Thanks for all the help. They must have gotten wiped clean on their last sale. I'm surprised that they are short on merchandise this time of year.

    Best az backcountry jacket.

Most of my t shirts are a large. I looked at the measuring chart for kuiu and I measure out to a medium. I'm 5 10 and weigh 175. Do you think I need to size up or should a medium be fine from your experience with the Teton.

Looking to Buy Binoculars Under 500 dollars. Reccomendations

I wouldn't buy 12s or 15s without saving up more. In your price range, I would suggest the zen ray ed3s or primes. The clarity of zen ray glass will show you more than sub $1000 15x or 12x. Just my opinion but I researched a ton and looked through them all. In the end zen ray was the best glass under 500. They don't make anything bigger than 10x so that would be my recommendation.

    Optics?????

I didn't read any of the previous responses so I'm sorry if somebody already gave you this advice but there is a pair of 12x50 euro hd binoculars in the classifieds for $950. Buy them before somebody else does and never look back. They are amazing glass for the money. They are amazing glass even if you don't consider how much cheaper they are than the swaros. Yes, the swaros are top notch, but a guy doesn't have to own a pair of swaros to be successful. I glass with guys using the most expensive glass on the market and I consider them to be really good glassers and I don't feel like I'm at a disadvantage at all with my euro hd's. If you do decide eventually that you want the swaros then sell the euro hd's for what you paid for them and buy the swaros. 950 Is a smoking deal and the only reason those binos are still there is because not very many people know what they are and what they're capable of. You would be wasting money in my opinion buying and Vortex product over those euro hds. That's my educated opinion anyways.

    Couse Mad cow disease

Probably fell and damaged some nerves in his neck or something. Maybe an infection from something or a tumor growing in his head. Could be multiple things but I'm guessing infection.

Diy double pedestal base for two of my biggest bucks

Those are outstanding deer. Is this something that a guy could go and do on public land diy? You can pm a response if you'd rather do that.

Diy double pedestal base for two of my biggest bucks

Looks awesome. I'm not real familiar with black tails but those things seem substantially larger than any other blacktails I've seen in any other pictures. Good job.

    Lost tripod in 33

Varnco, it's happy valley so chances are if it's a good glassing spot you'll have to share it with ten other guys. He lost it over a month ago so this is a last resort long shot effort to get them back. Some guy probably has camofreaks binos attached to the tripod and is going to use his Havalon to go his deer after he shoots it.

    Lost tripod in 33

I'm posting this for a friend. He's hoping that an honest person found his tripod in happy valley. It's a compact medium outdoorsmans with a standard outdoorsmans panhead. He thought he left it at a glassing spot but when he went back it wasn't there so now he's thinking it must have fell off his quad while he was driving. Thanks for looking. Creed

    Proven SA caliber for coues

I recommended a 284 but now that I've read a little bit about it I don't think that you could put a 284 or 6.5x284 in a short action and use bullets with any decent ballistic coefficient. Unless you plan on using it as a single shot. Magazine length would be the issue. Maybe somebody with experience can chime In.

    Proven SA caliber for coues

Anything off derived from the .308 case. I've personally seen a. 308 lay the smack down on everything from coues to elk out to 500. The round is capable on distances much further. I'm sure you'll hear how great the. 260 and 7-08 are also. You could build a. 257 Roberts if you want a sweet quarter bore. It's a solid 500 yard round with a 115 grain ballistic tip or 110 accubond. I've seen mine kill a bunch of deer(mines an Ackley improved though.). 284 win looks sweet on paper. I'd love to try one.
