TJ and PJ,
I am planning to swing by for a while. My step daughter arrives tomorrow back from college for the holidays, but I am planning on stopping by to meet some of the cw members. I have been addicted to Coues hunting the last 27 years. Thanks much for the invitation.

Nice first Coues deer for her. Congratulations on all the other success as well. But don't tell her it is not always this easy

I have a Weatherby Mark V sporter in caliber 257 W. mag that is in brand new condition. It has been fired 11 times and it has never been in the field. I still have the first box of shells that I bought with the gun. It has scope mounts and 1" rings but no scope. The 32nd blue book of gun value lists a 100% gun at $1200, a 98% gun at $1050, a 95% gun at $900. This is a great gun in great condition. I am asking $800 for the rifle.

Hey man, I can really relate to that story. It is similar to mine written below. Carrying these deer out at night in country you can barely walk in with good daylight is a real adventure. That is a really nice two point and was a nice shot. I appreciate every one of these deer. Each one is cool in their own way.
Thanks for sharing the story.

Can you describe:
metal condition / bluing ?
wood condition?
bore condition?
Is this scope one that has a 26 mm bore diameter ? That might make it impossible to change the scope to a different 1 inch scope and keep this scope mount ? What do you think ?
Thanks much for the information,
Jim

Real nice deer. Congratulations !
Is there a story about the hunt?

Nice deer. Thanks for sharing a story from New Mexico. I don't know anyone who goes over there, so props to you.

Very nice buck. I also like the extra antler that adds character. Every Coues deer is special. Enjoyed seeing the deer and reading the story.
Thanks for sharing.

I have a medium Outdoorsman's Tripod for sale just in time for a Christmas gift to yourself. Medium size means that it is 18 inches folded and 44 inches opened. It is a very rugged piece and is their best selling tripod. This tripod has been gently used by not abused for about 3 years and has been camo painted from its' original black color (see attached). I have the original rubber feet for this tripod, but have added some larger tips for more rugged AZ hunting conditions. The original purchase price for this is $369.99.
I am asking $200 for this one. You will be very happy with this tripod. Happy glassing for your next Coues deer !

Congrats !!!

Thanks for the nice comments. I was very fortunate to find this deer.

VERY nice buck. Congratulations for sticking with it. You would have hated to not try to hit it the third time. Great story.

Great Deer, congratulations! It is awesome to hear of success like this with only one day to hunt. Sometimes when you least expect it..........
-
That is a great story because the ending is so good. It would be such a bummer to lose a head like that. I am happy for the hunter and the kid who found and returned it.
Awesome !

I love the NATURAL GEAR camo. The grey color blends in great in Coues country.
Any dark colored camo looks black from a distance.

Awesome deer, congratulations! Love the mass.

I would agree with the above comments on long term stability of rounds built and kept cool and dry. I killed my buck this year with ammo I built over ten years ago. The bullets grouped just as well when I sighted in this year before the hunt (less than 1/2 inch 3 shot group).

Congratulations on your first deer. Every Coues is a trophy, but you will always remember the first one !!!!!

I miss those days as well. If you are a working person and can't get too many days off, it makes it very hard to hunt with only one weekend available.
I also miss getting a December tag once in a while. With only 50 to 75 tags available now, I am not sure if or when I'll ever get another December tag. Since they reduced the amount of December tags, I have not received a December tag.
Anyone else missing December hunts ??????????

Nice story and a great first Coues buck. My first Coues deer was so small, I don't think I have any pictures of it......ha ha.
Congratulations on a hunt you will always remember. Nice job.

Very Nice Buck... it is pretty amazing that your friend is able to hunt those tough areas at over 70 years of age. I only hope I will be able to do the same thing when I get there.
Thanks for sharing the story and pics
My buddy is a great hunter and scored 30 deer in 30 years here in AZ and he never shot a spike or fork, just a mature Coues or Muley (mostly Coues). I'll put that record up against anyones. He still gets around really well. We try to keep him in slightly easier country but Coues deer don't usually live there.

Nice buck, Man. It is great to have your son along on trips like this. Having him spot the deer is even better. Congratulations.

I carry 4 in the gun, 3 on the stock and have 10 in my pack.......'cause you never know what will happen!
Road Hunting
in The Campfire

I remember watching a "Wildlife Views" television program (sponsored by the AZGFD) years back where the AZGFD put a robo deer out near a road and then had the TV cameras rolling while officers hide in the bushes. There were many violators caught by this set-up. People who were sighted shot from an open jeep, from a pick-up, from the road bed, and from across the road bed. People not sighted were those who came to a stop, got out of the vehicle, moved off the same side of the road the deer was on, loaded their gun and then shot the fake deer.
This show actually became comical when multiple people were shooting the deer while officers were using bull-horns trying to tell them it was not a real deer. One father grabbed the rifle from a kid and shot the deer again when the kid's bullet failed to drop the deer. He was obviously showing his son the proper ethics of hunting.
This program kind of defined it for me and its' images have always stuck with me.
