    Rifle for 10 Year Old

There is a Browning BLR in .243 in the classifieds right now that would be a great youth gun. I own one (mine isn't for sale) and with handloads it is surprisingly accurate for a lever action, and it's lightweight and nimble (20" barrel).
  3. Thanks...yes I think it is a spitzer boat tail soft point, do not have the bullets from him yet...he just said "SBK." Appreciate the info...
  4. Helping a friend with a 26" barrel, 1:10 Rem 700 Sendero chambered in .300Win Mag make some test loads. In addition to IMR4831 and H4831SC, we have lots of Reloader 22. Anyone have the book data from Sierra for a .300WM and 180 grain SBKs with R22? I'm thinking of starting at 70grains and going up...but if someone can tell me what the lawyers at Sierra suggest it would be appreciated. Thanks,

    Tikka Rifles

Tikkas are the nexus of accuracy and economy. I own two left handed T3 Lites, 270 and 300wsm, both shooters and both have taken their share of big game. Recently ditched the factory synthetic stocks and went with Boyd laminates. For lefty's, there are not many after market stock options. I wanted to make them HEAVIER...but that is personal preference. I would suggest upgrading the factory allow rings. During load development on the 300 I had issues with the factory rings staying secure under recoil.

    Warne Tikka 1" High Rings

Have a set of Warne Tikka Rings, matte, 1"High. They were on a T3 with a 50mm bell scope for a few years. Here is link with reviews/more details: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1592175954/warne-1-permanent-attachable-ring-mounts-tikka My two cents after using this style of rings on a few different rifles: they are solid steel and once mounted they stay put and hold zero. They require a little more effort than other ring styles to get them mounted. Selling because I moved to a weaver stye base. $20 in Tucson, can ship. Would also trade for some 12 or 20 gauge birdshot. Thanks for looking.

    LEupold VX2 4-12 CDS

Since it is new in box, do you know if it is eligible for a free second CDS turret if you were to mail load data to Leupold?
  11. PSE is a national business that is headquartered in Tucson. The vast majority of their bows aren't sold locally and their pro-shop is just one small facet of a much larger business. Case in point, I am lefty and I went to PSE a few years ago to see if they had any of their newer bows in stock for leftys. They said no, there was too much demand out of state so they usually shipped left handed bows out to other vendors as soon as they came off the production line...then they said maybe ask Bull Basin if they had any lefty PSEs in stock

    tuna.......

Spent Sunday on a 3/4 day out of Point Loma Sportfishing on the boat Point Loma; 57 YFT for 17 anglers, I took a few and lost a few. We were in MX waters but never went south of the Coronado Islands. Biggest fish on the boat maybe went a little over 30, most fish were 15-20# range. If they are still around when I got back to SD late next month I will go again.

    tuna.......

5 YFT per day...last month it was slower and I got 2 20#ish YFT on a 3/4 day, took home about 23# processed fillets and ate the collars in SD. I'm on limited load boat 3/4 day out of Point Loma this Sunday, hope to get some more.

Question about flying with a rifle

Thanks FirstCoues and Metau for the offer. I borrowed a Pelican 1750 from a friend I hunt with.
  16. I am going to Oregon for a quick salmon trip in a few weeks and a relative has asked me to bring them a rifle (they let me "have it" 15 years ago). I'm flying Southwest and their rules state a "hard sided case that can be locked." I have an older plastic hard sided case that can be locked that I am hoping to use and leave in Oregon with the rifle. I'll probably fly with about 50 rounds of handloads for the gun too, Southwest says ammo can be stored with the rifle so long as it's secured in its own box/case. Anyone having experience flying Southwest with a firearm? Are they sticklers on the integrity of the case or could they care less as long as it locks? My case isn't fancy and probably about 1/8" thick with egg crate padding. If I have to invest in a high dollar SKB or aluminum case I will, but if the airline isn't picky I am not worried about the old Remington 700 getting beat up in transit. Thanks if anyone has experience or insight.

  20. No on loctite, but I would apply some grease to the threads of your action bolts and as others have said the Wheeler Fat Wrench is decent for the money.

    WTB cots or campin pads

You insulate the cot right? If you put a sleeping pad, heavy blanket or second second sleeping bag over the cot it usually mitigates most of it in cold weather...
