First load. Should I throw this out?
Siwash replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Make sure you prep/trim/measure cases before you load them up too. If you have inconsistent OACL it could be the culprit for what you are describing. -
I will be in San Diego over Memorial Day weekend and I am looking at booking a 3/4 day (6am-6pm) trip for Yellowtail, etc. There are a few outfits that run charters and the cost seems to be the similar across the board. Anyone have experience on this type of trip with Seaforth or Point Loma Sportfishing? I have fished the salt several times and know the fishing will be what it is, more curious about the crew/organization of either company or if someone has had good experiences with another outfit? I'm going to SD with girlfriend and we have tickets to the Stones Sunday evening so an overnight trip isn't an option, but she will live if I dip out for the day to fish

That doesn't sound that bad, I spent $290 for my girlfriend and me on a 3/4 day with a bunch of yahoos, and it was $4 a beer and they ran out of Tecate at like 8am

Watched fish counts/numbers on the 3/4 day options and ended up going with Point Loma Sportfishing primarily b/c the other 3/4 day boats were at or near capacity. We had 29 anglers on the boat and ended up with 5 Yellowtail and a small assortment of rockfish. A poor day's fishing by any standards. As Flash said, we spent more time cruising the Coronado Islands than we did fishing. I seriously doubt I had my line in the water for more than 80 minutes total and we were on the water for almost 12 hours, although about 2.5-3 was spent getting out to sea/returning. I have to assume the captain knows best, but on average we were in 100-120' of water and it was not uncommon to only get your yoyo or dropper loop rig down ONCE before the captain said bring' em up, we are moving. That was frustrating. Everyone on our boat was friendly and respectful, which was a plus. I think if I did this type of trip again I'd just do a .5 day or budget more time and go for several days further offshore.

Nothing for scale in these pics, but obviously neither are big bears. Just curious if the consensus is that it is a sow and a cub. Also curious if the two tone bear just has a wet coat? Note the one in the background in first pic looks like a cub. Second pic has both bears, hard to establish if one is older/larger than the other. Third pic is just cool Last pic is just a different angle on bear featured in 2nd pic.

Arrow straightness, .003 versus probably .006, and $$$ per dozen.

One post rain consideration, if you shoot a mechanical release and the trigger system takes on moisture make sure you dry it out and add lube, etc. if anything got rusty/sticky.

If you look at Craigslist in Tucson there is a guy on the east side that works for a custom truck company, think they trick out off road rigs, etc. He usually has slightly used/new take off tires at a "reasonable" price.

I always just use a short section of dental floss. -
I have this scope with #20 reticle. It's awesome. Mine does require a 20 MOA rail to maximize its elevation adjustment capability.

Last spring I got a "deluxe" 10x10 in excellent shape for $240 off CL...that was a smoking deal.

Believe those are the "Phaser Peak" model. I have a pair for day hikes and they are very comfy and have lasted longer than I thought they would.

My friend and I got drawn for elk. Nothing on my CC for antelope, but with only 8BPs it is slim odds for me anyway.

Shoot 3D as much as you can...it pays off quite a bit when you are hunting. I usually go for ten yard increments and add from there, arrive at a distance, then work backwards from my target to me using different references. Don't restrict these exercises to when you have a bow in your hand, you can guess yardage anytime you are outside and pace off the distance after you make an estimate. This keeps your mind and eye focused year round.

Too bad it's not for a lefty.

Outside of the high flows right now, if you are thinking of fishing it in the canyon I'm not sure O.C. has completely recovered from the run-off due to the fire in the summer of 2013. My family has a small place in the canyon and in my last two trips in late fall/early winter yielded one fish on each trip, both trout went into shock the minute they were hooked and did not recover even though they were immediately released and not removed from the water. I stopped fishing after each catch and I do not think I will fish it again this year. Other angler experiences on the creek have been more favorable of late, but that's been my experience. If you have a few days and want to get into trout I'd try Lee's Ferry or Silver Creek. If you got Silver Creek I'd fish it for a day and then swing around and hit Chevelon from the north, if you guys have float tubes or a portable watercraft.

I recently took this LEM grinder in trade: http://www.lemproducts.com/product/mighty-bite-8-grinder/butcher-meat-grinders I got about 19# of grind (@20% pork fat) from a sow javelina and made several italian sausages and some chorizo. Not including the meat prep, the grind time took like 10 minutes tops. Really pleased with the set up and it made the job fun and easy. Previously I used the grinder attachment you can purchase for a Kitchen Aide mixer...it worked but it was pretty slow and made the job a hassle so like a few other I ended up taking meat I had butchered off my animals and having a butcher grind it. Looking forward to doing it all on my own from here on out.

Cool rifle, I just killed a pig with mine on Saturday. Mine shoots about .75" groups @ 100 yards with handloads off a bench. Good luck with the sale. -
TTT for the stabilizer.

1. Doinker 27" aluminum stablizer. 24" rod, 3" removable head that is lightly weighted. Don't know exact weight of the entire unit, would guess it to be 12-14 ounces. Good for target and 3D shooters. $25 2.
