    Ballistic Turrets

I have a Swarovski AV 4-12x50 with ballistic turrets on my .300 WSM. The turret is the factory one, which uses color coded dots in place of the actual yardages on the Outdoorsmans turret. I love the scope. It has bright, clear optics and a nice defined duplex reticle. My rifle is zeroed at 200 and I used the Swaro website to enter my load data and get the zero for 300, 400 and 500 yards. Their data was close, but not exact when I went to the range to test it. After field adjustments I have the scope dialed in and feel confident out to about 550 yards. I also practiced at 250, 350, and 450 (which I basically just guessed at by moving halfway between the color coded zeros for 300, 400 and 500) and was pleased with the results. I have holdover (ballistic plex, BDC, etc) reticles on a few other rifles and believe the turret system is superior for accuracy at long range. I'm sure the Outdoorsmans reticle is excellent as well, and probably more precise than the "halfway" system I used at the range for those 250, 35, etc. shots...the only limitation that I see with their turret is that my understanding is that it is set-up for only one load...so just make sure you have found the bullet that shoots in your gun before you get the turret set up.

    Lasik Surgery

Another vote for Barnett Delaney Perkins. I had it done just over 4 years ago at their Camelback location. Not a cheap procedure...but money well spent and I would do it again.
  3. Probably won't be in the PHX area until the end of Feb. for the Cactus Classic. Thanks though.
  4. I got a set of Redding dies for my .300 WSM and don't need my RCBS set anymore. Anybody have a set of .38/357 dies laying around they would like to trade? Let me know. Thanks.

    Opening Day Success

This morning I took this boar. With the hard freeze last night I slept in a little and got to the field around 8 am. I located a herd about 5 minutes after setting up my tripod. They were 1,000 yards off feeding right next to two muley does. After making sure no bucks were hanging around I closed the gap with a perfect wind right in my face and shot my pig inside of 20 yards. I hit him broadside through the lungs and had total pass through with a Hoyt AM 35 and a 100 grain Muzzy 4 blade. The pig went about 15 yards and piled up. The does were less than 30 yards away and didn't spook until after I walked up on the dead pig. It's nice when every thing comes together for a change. Good luck to everyone else who gets out this weekend.

Bump for price drop to $375 and trades on snubby revolvers...
  10. I bought a Hoyt Alphamax 35 last spring and it came with a like new "Viper-X" (you can Google it) black/yellow 452x string set. Personally, I found the yellow to distract my eye when looking through the peep so I had another one made. It's a sweet string and probably has less than200 shots through it...even the string maker I use in Tucson said, "Man, this is a nice string. Are you sure you want to replace it?" Anyway, it has been in my archery tackle box for a long time, maybe someone else can use it. It fits 2009-2010 AM 35's with #2 XTR cams. $25 in Tucson, will ship for $26 via paypal or USPS.

    Doves

Figured I'd share my super simple dove recipe in honor of today's opener: Ingredients: Dove Breasts Milk Hot Sauce Salt Pepper Place dove breasts in zip-loc bag, add milk (enough to cover but not drench the breasts), tabasco or other hot sauce with discretion, salt, and pepper. Seal the bag and let it marinate in the fridge for as long as you like. Remove the breasts from the bag (you can pat them dry or let them or air dry them but I never do) and place them on a foil covered oven sheet. Bake at 350 for approximately 20 minutes. You may choose to cover the breasts with foil as well...dried out birds aren't the best table fare. Serve and enjoy. I've also wrapped bacon around each breast prior to placing them in the oven with this marinade. That's a tasty way to go too.

Is this about the shootout on the west side of the Galiuro's between lawmen and a family with boys who didn't go to WWI?

Bump for a good bow that is accurate and reliable.
  19. Recently I decided to increase my draw length a little bit and subsequently all of my Gold Tips are too short. Total length on the shafts is 25.5". I shot a 27" DL and they were perfect and came it at around 345 grain with a 100 grain head. I have 30 total 5575 Gold Tip arrows for sale. 23 are XT Hunters and 7 are Expedition Hunters. Most of the arrows are fletched with 2" Blazers, a few have 2" AAE shield cut style vanes. A dozen of the XTs have barely been shot at all, some of the others probably were never shot, and the Expeditions are pretty banged up. Anyway, cheap arrows for someone's kid or for someone who wants to have arrows to donate at the next 3D smoker round or long distance shoot. SOLD!!!!

+1 Don't forget a case lube pad...I have found Redding's Imperial Wax to be the best for case prep/lube prior to sizing.

    SOLD

Here is a good deal for the southpaw archer...I have a used 7 .19 pin Montana Black Gold Super 7 site for sale. It is used condition and has a few scratches/dings. Maybe it is just my eyes, but the third pin (yellow) may have had the tip broken at some point, it looks closer to .10 than .19. Either way, it has no effect on function. SOLD! These retail for $150...check 'em out reviews at Cabelas: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Arc...71180|103860180 Thanks for looking.
  22. I own two Tikka T3s: a .270 that shoots sub MOA with 130 grain Ballistic Tips and a .300WSM that used to...until I started loading Berger VLDs Back to the drawing board on that one. I have the triggers adjusted down as far as they will go per the manual (which states 2.5# but on my buddy's pull scale it is more like 3.5#). This year's hunt magnified the need for a better trigger in my .300 WSM. Out of the box it is a great trigger, but I'd prefer one that was a little bit lighter. Anybody played with theirs or had the stock trigger replaced?

    Tikka T3 Trigger Work

Interesting, many said they need to be longer than suggested COAL...well into the lands to be effective. Either way, in 100 loaded rounds at several case lengths with several powders I never got them to shoot really lights out. My zero is at 200 yards and just under 2" was the best group I could shoot with 168 VLDs pushed behind W760. Can't remember the exact charge/case length but either way it wasn't that impressive...and that was the best of the best. I will probably go back to 150 gr. Ballistic Tips and IMR 4064...I got consistent 1" groups at 200 with that load before I switched to Bergers. I wanted to get away from the BT's because of their destructive nature on meat, but after seeing the deer we harvested with Bergers this year I'd have to say they are just as brutal. Then again, dead is dead...
