    Feedback for TSX &. TTSX

41 gr of R22 with 2.700 OACL produces MOA accuracy in a Browning BLR chambered in .243 for me. Not bad for a lever gun...I have not shot an animal with a Barnes 6mm bullet but several elk have succumbed to the TSX in .30 cal and all were very clean kills.

Pay it forward - I will start

This one found a new home guys, thanks. Have an older Eureka "Timberline" 12x12 A-Frame style tent. I have hunted out of it for the last 4 years and it's been solid in rain and wind, but I upgraded and don't need two big tents. As long as you are gentle on the zippers it should last a few more seasons and you can stand upright in it and fit a table/cot/lantern/stove etc pretty easily. Free in Tucson/Sam Hughes if any one can use it. similar to pic but brown/beige as opposed to green...and like all other vintage tents, it's smells a little funky the first few hours it is set up, but it either goes away or you get used to it

    What scale do you like?

I like my RCBS 1500 Dispenser/Scale. It's a godsend for rifle reloading, saves a ton of time and each load is consistent if you don't mind occasionally nipping a little piece of powder here and there. For me, the set is also a nightmare for handguns as I personally am just looking for plinking ammo and it's painfully tedious to charge each shell with 4-6 grains of powder, likewise W231 gets stuck in the dispensing tube and its a PITA to clean/remove. Previously I used a RCBS uniflow charger at XX grains then would trickle in exact charge on a RCBS 10/10 scale for rifle loads. That worked good too, just a bit tedious. Very happy with the 1500, but do wish I hung on to my uniflow and beam as that system for my .38 and .45 was way better for my needs as all I did was check the uniflow 3-4 times in a row on a scale and get to work. I'm quite certain the charges weren't consistent to the grain, but as I said if you're just slinging lead it doesn't matter much. Some might say it's a waste to reload for pistols on a single stage press anyway... If you are willing to be patient and diligent with checking/calibrating most any scale should work alright.

    Triclawps/ Claw questions

Personally I wouldn't use my Jim White with a tri-clawps. I think you would be frustrated with the stability and the benefit of the TRi-clawps would be negated by the head's inability to handle the weight. I used an older 'Claw" with a Manfrotto 700RC2 on a pretty heavy older Manfrotto tripod and it worked fine, although the weight of the rifle did exceed the max load the head was rated at. You have a good question about recoil; it gets transferred to the head/tripod, but also to the gun's action and recoil screws. If you do purchase a tri-clawps and shoot frequently, make sure you check the action screws (a good habit regardless of whether or not you shoot of a tri-clawps) after each shooting session. Today I use an Outdoorsman flip up rest with a Jim White tripod head and the Vortex Summit SS tripod. Both are ultra-light. I was able to take a Coues at 350+ with this set up in tall grass last fall, and have shot as far as 550 with the set-up. I like either rest for inside of 500, but it doesn't really offer the stability you need for distances greater than that, at least in my experience. I use mine only in situations where a prone rest is not an option (like setting up on a slope or in tall grass). If you did shoot off a really beefy, heavy duty tripod/head it might get you stable enough to shoot with confidence at greater distances though.

    CALLING ALL ARCHERS

Pretty much what I do, no complaints the last few years.
  9. This happened in 2012 in 35B and if I recall AZGFD got confused about quotas between the early general season, which was met, and the sow quota during the archery season, which was not met when they closed it after the first or second week of the season in May. I don't think they blamed that one on hermaphrodite bears though, just plain old fashioned ignorance.

  13. Those look like herons to me.
  14. I joined my buddy on the 2nd hunt in November south of Wlllcox last year, he took a Crane on that hunt and in '12. There were a lot of birds on the later hunt, mostly high flyers. You can pattern them and get out in the dark and try to shoot them as they come off their beds to feed early, or set up where they feed and hope to get a shot. If you do pull a tag after the first hunt it looked like the cranes we saw were smart enough to avoid decoys, but it might be a good move on the first hunt before they are all shot up and wise. It was really cool to see and hear the birds in the air, there were literally hundreds of them. You might be able to pull a leftover if you didn't get to put in for them.

    GUNS 4 SALE

Good deal on that Ithaca 37, those are nice shotguns.
  21. ***SOLD*** I have an old (like circa 1910-1920) Ithaca "Flues" field grade side by side 20 gauge for sale. Dual trigger, 28" barrels, mod/full choke, bluing is worn (see pics), center bead missing and slight dent in right barrel (see pic). Barrels have moderate pitting. Wood is in good shape for its age. Shot a limit of doves with it last September and 100 rounds of sporting clays. Functions fine with standard load 2 3/4" shells and the gun is LIGHT (maybe 5#). Asking $350, not interested in trades. Pristine models fetch upwards of $1K on Gunbroker. If there are any Ithaca experts who have more insight about this gun feel free to PM me or post it here. Shotgun is in Tucson. Thanks for looking.

*SPF* Ithaca SxS 20 Gauge Shotgun *SPF*

Thanks guys, more details on the gun: it is a vintage 1911 Ithaca Flues Field Grade model. Met with another member tonight and although he decided the gun wasn't for him he did measure the bores and found out the chokes had been opened up and they are both around .14, so more like dual modified barrels, making it all the better as a bird gun. The gun was designed at a time when 2 1/2" shells were the norm. I shot it with standard load 2 3/4" 8 shot without issue, but you can still get really great 2 1/2" shells from RST: http://www.rstshells.com/ I'm going to list it on Shotgun World next week, but before I do it's $300 local in Tucson on here.
