    We're dead last??

Numbers make sense to me. Our herd numbers pale in comparison to many states, and the size of our state is massive in relation to many others making the chance of a collision that much more unlikely, especially since our largest metropolitan area, Phoenix, offers less than ideal habitat for deer.

bump, thought rifle was sold, now it's package...
  6. Maybe I'm misreading your post, but are you saying you are shooting 230 grains bullets in your .270? 130 grain sounds more accurate. Hopefully you have been saving your brass, lately it is one of the more costly investments for reloading. If your buddy already has .270 dies great, if not, buy Redding. You can buy SST's pretty cheap by the 100, and Nosler Ballistic Tips (very similar bullet) are also available in boxes of 50. Neither one of those bullets has been scarce from the shelves the last few times I've looked for bullets. I'd suggest starting with H4831 or IMR 4831 or W760 as a powder at 50ish grains and work your way up. Measure the OACL in the factory SSTs and replicate it for starters. A pound of powder should get you 120+ charges for most .270 loads, so figure on around 60 bucks for 100 bullets, a pound of powder and a pack of 100 primers (go with Winchester or CCI). I doubt you can buy 100 rounds of factory SSTs for less than 100, so you are already saving money and getting to know more about your rifle.

    BStinger Stabilizer- Tucson

Bump, bow sold, still have stabilizer...would trade this stab for a 6-8" one more suitable for hunting.
  9. Sold Pending Funds 8" B-Stinger Stabilizer with 10 ounce (not sure of exact weight, but feels slightly lighter than a 12 ounce can of Tecate, in side by side comparison). $40 in Tucson. Thanks for looking.

    Forecast: Heavy Snow / Wind

This morning my friend dumped a nice Tom around 8am in 23, said he was walking and calling...if you do hunt in heavy wind moving around and calling can be a good strategy.

    Black River Help

I haven't been since 2009, and I'm not sure I'd go there several days if you really wanna get into the fish...I felt like the river's fish population was in decline, and that was before the Wallow Fire blew it out. That being said, it's epic country and you will have fun regardless of the fishing. If you spend several days on the river chances are HIGH you will encounter a black bear. I've never been there and not ran into one, or had one wander through my camp. Please be prepared for that if you go. I concur with the lure suggestions and might add small black or gold spinners (Mepps, Panther Martins) can also be productive, especially if you fish holes that might also hold browns and rainbows. No clue what their status is on the river anymore. RCD's advice about worms is good. Taking 5 minutes to catch a few dozen hoppers on the way in (usually they are out in great numbers before you climb up to Point of Pines) is also a good way to catch fish if you aren't opposed to using bait. Along with what RCD said, I rented a boat few years ago on Lee's Ferry and man it was cool. Another backpack/fish trip I have always wanted to take is East Clear Creek...

  19. Buy a quad Weights/jogging/biking etc. are all good for you, but I think hitting the hills with a light to heavy pack and putting miles on your boots is the best thing you can do, especially if you can gain some altitude along the way. Working elk all day at higher elevation can be a killer for flatlanders if we don't prepare accordingly. Here is tucson that's not always an easy option to hike (especially since dogs are restricted from all of the local trailheads), so I often put on a pack and walk the sand in the Rilito River bottom with my dog. When I lived in PHX I was about 8 minutes from Squaw Peak and ran those trails 3-4 times a week. As others have also mentioned, once you are 30+ years of age your diet is also a critical component of conditioning.

    Federal Firearms License Holder

Not sure if he still works out of Lippert's in Tucson, but not too long ago a man named Julio was an FFL there and would probably help you out if you call the shop.

    Darton Bows

Right now I'm shooting a vintage Maverick Haven't looked hard at their new line-up but Darton makes a nice bow and they usually meet or exceed their IBO, which seems to be rarity these days. K&L is definitely a good place to go shoot the latest greatest if you want to try one out.
