My .270 LOVES 140 grain Nosler Accubond behind 54 grains of W760 at 3.325" Your rifle will be different. If I was starting from scratch for a .270 elk load I'd look at suggested charges for 140 grain Nosler ABs and Barnes TSX and find out what works in your gun.

That sounds fair and about what my friend paid the same guy a year ago after his Docter's got knocked off a tripod in 60+ MPH gusts. He is very pleased with the results and I hope you are too.

I bought some 2 for 1 on the Shwacker website on the 2nd or 3rd of July...it said 4-6 weeks but they came today so roughly 10-11 days.

I recently acquired one and had similar issues when using the tilt with my 15x binos. I spoke with Jim White and ended up sending it back to him. He had it back to me in less than a week and I am pleased with the results. I will say that with the size/weight on the Jim White head I am sacrificing a little bit with the tilt's stability in comparison to my old Manfrotto 701rc2 head, but that head is a tank, so it seems to be a decent trade and I am going to learn to work with the Jim White head in the field...it's really, really nice to have a lightweight glassing set up.

If you go the EGW route with your Tikka and have a 50mm objective bell you will probably need to cut off the front end of the rail. I used a Dremel and touched it up with a sharpie. If you just go with new rings Talley or Warne both work well. Note: Just re-read your post, you shouldn't have this issue with a 44mm bell.

I have tried it with Slick Tricks and not noticed any major issues. Just make sure you get the mesh as TIGHT as it can be across the window.

I tried hunting the OTC archery hunt for a weekend on the Rim last May. We had Toms call back right at sunrise but none that would come in...except for the one making a beeline to us that suddenly stopped right after we heard a loud shotgun blast in the same direction he was gobbling from Anyway, If calling them in isn't working do your best to locate a flock or gobbling Tom and find water in the area. They have to drink every day. Find out where they are doing it and set up a blind or stand and wait. I didn't get a bird last year but did get to see a small herd of timber antelope come to the tank I was on as well as a lone cow elk. Watching those animals made the weekend for me. Good luck.

Then avoid the Berger VLDs and Nosler Ballistic Tips. In my experience they shoot really well but they act like grenades on Coues deer. If you are going to buy new dies go for the Reddings over RCBS...I sold my RCBS and got some Reddings and they are much easier to use. My Tikka .300WSM likes R22 and IMR4350, I'd start at 60 grains and work up but 62-62.5 grains of either powder seems to be the sweet spot for me with 150-180 grain bullets.

Sweet pics. No expert either, still trying to learn myself, but the gap between the ground and his stomach make me think it is a younger bear. At the same time his ears seem to be fairly well offset from his head, which makes me reconsider. Curious to hear what others think.

Do you handload or shoot factory? I have tried several handloads in my .300 WSM and finally decided on 165 gr Nosler Accubonds as my go to bullet for everything in AZ.

If you do buy a Triclawps make sure you check the action screws and scope mounts following shooting. I have the older model, the "Claw" and have experienced some issues with action screw movement...it was on a 50's era Model 700 BDL wood stock that probably should be pillar bedded or replaced period, but still something to be aware of when you are using one.

Man that's the dilemma with hunting with a single pin site. I think if you are in a blind or hunt out of a stand it is a good option. If you spot and stalk you know its inherent flaws. If you shoot a really fast arrow you could try keeping your slider pin at like 35 and learning the holder under-over from 20-50yds if you have to take a rushed shot and don't have time to change the pin, but personally I don't see that as an ideal compromise.
