  1. I found these old school Vasque boots in my father's closet last weekend. They are too small for both of us...he said he bought them in the early 70's at "The Barn" in Tucson. They are Size 10. Leather is still supple and there is plenty of tread with deep lugs. These predate "Goretex" but short of walking in a creek I'm sure they will keep your feet dry. They don't make them like this anymore (or if they do, they are $300+ a pair). I hope somebody can use them for $20.

    Recovered bullets

Here is a 180 grain Barnes TSX recovered from a bull elk...bullet blew out lungs and was recovered above opposite shoulder. I made the load for a MDL 70 featherweight .308 for a youngster.

I was at Bull Basin tonight in Tucson and right now they have Swaro 15s for cheaper than cameralandny.

    Shooting location

Take Trekell south from I-8 or from CG. You will hit a dirt road shortly, follow it 1 mile or two south until you can make a left...this takes you to the Trap club, make a right to hit the public range. The range is 300 yard max distance. They used to have a 300 yard metal gong in the burm but if I remember right last time I went it had disappeared. The range is better on the weekdays. If you go a weekend make sure you talk to the other shooters about a ceasefire, etc. There is no official range master and I have seen lots of unsafe behavior on the range.

    Nikon Prostaff BDC Scope

I would look at the Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 with the ballistic plex. You can find it online for $250-300 and it is a better scope than the ProStaff in my opinion.
  10. Bull Basin in Tucson works with a local guy named Byron who builds pretty excellent strings...no peep rotation guaranteed and no questions asked 1 year warranty. Byron takes your bow for a day or two and builds everything custom to your specs. It's not cheap, but neither is the headache of ordering strings online and finding out they don't work for you. Personally I think the quality on Winner's Choice strings has declined in the last few years. A year or two ago I had a set on a Darton that had the end servings separate pretty rapidly and with axle to axle BH, tiller etc. in spec the peep was doing a 180 every 15 shots or so...it drove me nuts.
  11. Waders/fishing stuff is sold. Nice quiver still for sale cheap! 3. Handmade Leather Back Quiver: will hold a dozen plus arrows. Great for the traditional archer. Has an adjustable strap and will fit medium to slender archers from 5-8 to 6' or so. $30. All items in Tucson...will trade for broadheads, shotgun shells or reloading equipment.
  12. The Desert Archers are hosting a 3D shoot this weekend at the Tucson Mountain Park Archery Range. Please join us in a warm-up (with an emphasis on WARM) for the upcoming archery season in Southern Arizona. Registration opens around 10:30 AM on Saturday and at 7:00 AM Sunday. There will be two 15 target courses and archers are welcome to shoot courses as many times as they like. Cost for both days is $10 for members/$20 for non-members with a Pima County Range or $15/25 for members/non-members without a range pass. Lunch, snacks and drinks are available on both days. Rage 100 grain 3 Blades

I took 3 Rage 100 grain 3 Blades in trade a while back. I have never shot them and have no desire to do so. The expandable blades are in the great shape, 2 of the heads have one very minor nick on one blade, but overall all are in excellent shape and sharp. From the looks I doubt they were shot more than a handful of times. $20 or trade for a 3 pack of 100 grain Muzzy 4 blades or Slick Tricks or other high quality fixed blade head. I'm in Tucson but can ship somewhere for $5...or sell/trade them to you at the Bowhunter Happening next weekend.
  15. Good starting points, thanks.
  16. I have a friend who pulled a cow tag and has an old ( I believe 50's era) Remington semi-auto Woodsmaster 740 chambered in .30-06. He has a young child and wants to shoot copper bullets so the kid can enjoy the elk without any worries about digesting lead. The gun cycles Remington Cor-Lokts just fine but I am going to dial up some 180 Barnes TSX-BTs and give them a try this weekend. I'm going to start with 46 grains of IMR 4064 as that is the mide-range from Barnes load data. I know reloading for old semi-autos can be tricky...should I lean towards light or heavy loads to get started? Anybody have any suggestions with OACL or load density? i'm not expecting sub-moa from an old autoloader, 2-3" at 100 yards would be great. I'm mostly just curious if anyone has had success hand loading for this rifle. Thanks.
