    7 West Bull Elk hunt

I would have to agree with cbryant... Practice as much as you can in ranging distances and try to get away from the depending on your rangefinder, you will most likely won't be using it if your chasing elk. Once you start practicing, you will see that you can get good at it really quick. You will also notice that its harder to range distances when you can't see the ground between you and the target.
  2. I have the same issue with my Kimber 300 WSM with several diffrent bullets including the noslers . Luckily I was able to get the Triple shocks and the Bergers to shoot with out any deformation.

    Primers

FYI, Bear Mountain in Mesa just received a large shipment of primers. I was there this afternoon and purchased a bunch of Federal 215M (Large Rifle Magnum Match Primers) and there was still a lot left.

    Primers

It looks like they did receive some 205 primers. Here is a link to their website. http://www.bearmountainsports.com/ Gamehauler, I don't know when I will be in the area again, but if I do get over there I will pick some up. Try giving them a call and see if they will sell to you over the phone???

    Long range shooting

+1 I'd look at Krieger barrels as well, but let your smith help you with the pro's and con's of each barrel type, action, etc. Those guys on longrangehunting are legit. And as a side note, a good smith can put together a build that will shoot as good or better as any "Custom Rifle Company" and do it for much less with much more personal attention. +1 I just got a custom rifle put together that is less than half the price of a complete "custom". Look at Schneider barrels, little backed up because of the military contract, but if you know the right people. I got mine in 2 weeks or something like that, my stock took longer. I just received my barrel from Schneider, It took me about 4 weeks to get it and he was on vacation for at least 2 of the weeks. I think thats a great turn around.

    Marine Coolers?

All of my igloos have cracked and the hinges have broken. I have several Colemans that are over 15 years old and they look almost new. Coleman is the way to go.

  8. Just the draw department after the draw and request that they send you a copy of the app. They did that for me last year.

    What rifle is better!!!

Go with the Remington... I always hear more likes than dislikes with regards to them, and they tend to shoot great right out of the box. Down the road if you decide that you would like more, you can alway have the action trued and then upgrade the barrel, stock, trigger for a world class firearm. The Tika T-3 is a great rifle as well. The only issue that I've had with mine is when you reload you are limited, by the magazine, on how far out you can seat the bullet. Also, if you go with the Tika, don't use the rings that are supply with the gun, make sure that you use quality rings and bases, Regarding the cartridge, the 308 win is probably about as good of a cartridge that your going to get for a cross over rifle (varmit, deer and elk); however, if your not planning on using the gun for elk, don't rule out the 243 Win, or the 7mm - 08.

I will say 369... I don't think the picture angle shows all of the length.

How Would You Hunt This Coues Spot?

Great post, I like to see learn all the different ways to skin a cat. I believe that Jim would hunt the area the same way that I would; however, I would make sure to take some time to glass the bottoms of the hills in the washes. Where I hunt (however a little diffrent terrain than what's in the picture) It seems that I find a lot of deer sneaking up and down the bottom of the washes in the mesquites. Have any of you guys experienced this?

    so mad!!!

Congrats.... nice deer and nice shot, a 35 yard shot in the neck isn't easy. I for one have lost an animal in the past and can understand the relief that you must felt. He will make a beautiful mount.

    access to santa teresa mountains

I hunted the Telegraph area earlier this month and you do need a permit to cross that section of Res. Once you get off the Res, the road will run into a ranch and the access is limited from there. You might be able to take the road tthat bypass the ranch to the north a bit, but you will need a 4X4 and it will only take you about another 3/4 of a mile. If you purchase a permit, you will have access to Jackson. Also, if you plan on hunting more than one day, you will need a permit for both the day you arrive and the day you left. So, make sure you do some planning ahead or buy the permits for every day that you plan on hunting.

    Loading Barnes bullets

Yes I'm the new guy, but I would have to agree with 270 on this one. I have shot the 168 gr TSX out of my 300 WSM (Kimber) for several years now and have great results regarding group size; however, performance on Coues has been horrible. I have see three deer shot with the TSX and they went as follows. The first one I shot three times right behind the shoulder and it finally droped at the third shot. The second was again shot behind the shoulder and it ran off about 100 yards before it expired. The third looked like it was a good shot at a close range and the animal was never found. I figure that the TSX are petty much high powered field point arrow, a 30 cal hole going in and a penny size hole coming out. Because of this I'm looking for a new bullet.
