come on Brian that is not a mule deer. we all know mule deer hunters are only concerned with outside spread. outside spread doesn't count for anything. we need to know what the inside spread is so we have some reference. I am guessing 15. let us know and thanks.

nice buck for sure. any hogs on that plantation? what about turkeys?

call Sara and talk to her. I think she has 3 pups right now that are about 5 months old. http://www.wildfirebrittanys.com/ -
oh sorry - meant the 2nd to last picture. love the last one also along with your new additions but really like the 2nd to last picture. thanks again.

OK - so are we suppose to use them with our clothes in dryer or carrying them around in our pockets?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I have to tell you that I LOVE this post. Unfortunately things didn't work out for you at first, or second but you stuck with it and it paid off. AND you were grateful and excited for the animal you harvested even though it was not the biggest one in the desert. Your last picture is one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing!

well IMO, the Dec hunts are not what they use to be and are not what everyone has them jacked up to be. the Thanksgiving hunt the G&F added a couple years has made the Dec hunt a tougher hunt. The best thing about the Dec hunts is the cooler weather, later sunrise which offers a little more sleep and the fewer hunters. With that said I would go with one of the units that is NOT an "alternative management" unit (31, 36C, etc) because these units have 3 times the tags in Dec (125+) that the other units have (40 +/-). Yes there is a CHANCE the rut MIGHT kick in the last week of the hunt but mother nature does not always cooperate with that hope. Good luck.

Wife's First Deer with a Bow!!!
SunDevil replied to WildHeritageTaxidermy's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Nice buck. Congrats to her on a great achievement! -
congrats TJ and thanks for sharing. that is truly impressive. hard for me to admit but I have never killed a javelina and you have 34, WOW. maybe someday. sounds like you are in my boat. need to hit the gym, strengthen the knee, shed a few and improve the cardio. take care.

That is AWESOME. These women with their bows are KILLING ME. Making me feel far inferior as a hunter. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
-
Brian - thanks for keeping us updated with your journal. Good luck! That is a really nice buck your friend got. What was the inside spread?
-
not big? that is a really nice buck! there are a lot of hunters out there that would give their pinky toe to get a buck like that. try not to get hung up on size, you are to young for that. Congrats on a great buck and thanks for sharing!

so TJ, how did the pheasant shoot go yesterday?
-
Man TJ - after all those Christmas lights you hung up on a bum knee, one would think you would have 365 free passes to do whatever you want whenever you want. gotta keep things on an even keel at home or you might be looking for a new one. hope you enjoyed the Cardinal game. you should have mentioned that Christmas eve was an EXCELLENT DAY for game and fish movement/feeding according to the SoLunar calendar. I am sure she would have understood THEN, right?

Jake - your 2nd sentence needs to be edited to as follows, "IMO, if you like the gun, DON'T MIND THE RECOIL and you shoot it well, shoot it!"
-
Yep, that game reminded me of last years Alamo Bowl and the Holiday Bowl the year before that. Boise St got shafted going to that bowl. ASU had no business playing Boise St in a bowl game. As did many other "Non - BCS" conference teams. Baylor, TCU, Kansas St, etc.
-
how far do you plan on shooting? plenty of coues taken at great distances with 243 and 25-06 calibers. shot placement, scopes, turrets and solid rests are probably more important in lethality than caliber size.
-
oh - FYI - Saturday is suppose to be an "excellent" day according to the solunar calendar. it is going to be warming up next week. that might not help things much. going from the low to mid 50s in tucson to the mid to upper 60s.
-
is that "bigger" than a 300 RUM or a 30-378? plenty of guys hunt them with those cartridges. just make sure you shoot them in the ribs. anything else and you are going to loose a lot of meat and there is not that much meat on these little deer to begin with.

I have said this before, IMO I do not think the Dec tags are what they once were. Guy on here had 34A Dec a couple years ago and hunted most of the hunt and had a TOUGH hunt. I had the 36C Dec hunt a couple years ago. Hunted 8 days and it was TOUGH. Neither my hunting partner or I tagged out. Like Casey said, you are in one of the more popular tag allocation units in the state. 33, 34A, 36B, these are the G&F's cash cow units. Good luck.

seems the dart hunting thing provides some the opportunity to "take" an endangered animal while allowing biologists the opportunity to gather data on them. I would hope the money from the hunt would get put back into the conservation program.

well then, I recoreded that episode on my DVR. Guess I can delete it and save 10 minutes of my time.
-
Casey - I am impressed. 12 bucks in 7 days and no lead in the air. you are learning the ways grasshopper. I think on our last Dec hunt, Larry and I hunted 8 days and neither of us tagged out.

that is a really nice deer!!! the pic with him holding it really gives you perspective on how big he is.
