tough question to ask other people. there are some people that mount pretty much everything they harvest. if they have the money for it good for them. others look for a great hunt and others look just for trophies. this is most definetly a personal decision. I had decided not to mount my deer from last year but when I shot another buck this year that could pass for at least a cousin if not a brother I have decided to have them both mounted together. if not for the deer this year I probably would not have ever had my deer from last year mounted even though it is a great deer.

Bad idea to switch Ammo brands night before hunt?
SunDevil replied to jcarter's topic in The Campfire
I unfortunately would. probably still going to be close but you will not know until you shoot it. better to be safe than sorry because an inch or two at 100 yards will be a lot more at 300 or 400. -
That is just AWESOME. Congrats on such a fine trophy. Would love to come over and see it sometime once you get the mount done. Of course, will also be interested in seeing your fully body ibex mount along with all the rest of your trophies. Wish I had some more money and didn't hate the snow so much. Congrats again.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PEG!!! Just tell TJ you are keeping your new found income for yourself and maybe, if he is nice you might kick a little his way, but only if he keeps up on his chores (dishes, laundry, dusting, toilets, etc). \"/

WOW - a Savage model 99. you do not see many of those being used to hunt deer anymore, especially coues whitetail. what caliber is it in? my dad has one in .243 and I think I might get it from him next year to use on my hunt.

been there done that on two of your accounts. shot the wrong buck and had kid songs running through my head while hiking or glassing. sucked that it was so windy. still am wondering what is up in those canyons that we did not see that day because of the wind. and then on Thurs there was absolutely no wind at all. might need to go back in there in Jan to check it out. it was good for everyone to get home early on Thurs. I got to go watch gymnastics for the first time. nice buck and nice shooting.

EXCELLENT job Ernesto. Congratulations to ALL of you!!! tell Tony I said - "Cuando caliente el sol aqui in la playa?"

I was afraid you'd say that. That will be a huge deduction. yea that might result in deductions when compared to the other side but you are going to pick up extra length on the measurement of the g2 and g3 by doing it the way Chef says to.

Oct 2011 Hunt - My First Writeup
SunDevil replied to NewHunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
that sucks that you got sick. rest of it sounds like hunting. it is usually worth the time to try and find a good spot to shoot from. remember that lots of guys never even see bucks like that and you got a couple shots at one of them. valuable lessons learned for future hunts for sure. -
how deep do you want to get into this? first pass is for max bonus pt holders. 20% of the tags go to these individuals. if you put in with other people they avg your bogus points. after that the next pass looks at your first two choices. if you do not draw than you go to the next pass which looks at your last 3 choices but only after they have gone through everyone's first two. thus, when you look at draw odds, typically if a hunt has draw odds of less than 100% you would not draw this hunt if you put it as one of your last 3 choices because all the tags would be gone in the first pass. also, non residents can only draw 10% of the tags. lots of info on this on the g&f website but it is a little complicated and does get a little confusing. good luck.

well one thing we have discovered the last couple of years is utilizing the peak times for game activity from the solunar table calendar. we have observed enough coorelation between these times and actual observed game activity for these times not to be flukes or coincidences.

is the Rem 700 243 an adl or a bdl? does it have an aluminum butt plate or a black plastic one? any pictures? Thanks.

is it just me or is that a picture to demonstrate what bullet NOT to use? -
Great for you Brian. Congrats on a nice buck. Cool to see you so pumped up about it.

lots of positive feedback here on havalons. I have found that old knives use a lot better steel and as such will hold an edge a lot longer than newer knives. when I say old I mean 50 years old. you can still find lots of old knives that are in excellent condition. when I was a kid my dad gave me a fixed blade official boy scout knife made by western. I used that knife to clean many, many salmon in AK. when I started hunting seriously again about 15 years ago I tried a new knife and found out it was crap. the next year I went to my old western and that is what I still have in my pack. if I was going to recommend a newer knife that I personally have favorable knowledge of I would recommend an Opinel. they are not that fancy but use good steel and are fairly inexpensive.
