  2. Wrong on Townsend, YVRGC. George and Robbie pretty much disagreed with the Bill at first, then agreed and took Credit in a Club meeting for getting it done, now disagree. Let me let you in on how the Club actually voted. I'll first point out that a few of our very well respected and experienced members including Joe Melton and Jonny Fugate spoke in favor of the bill. I was in favor as well. As hard as Robbie and George tried, the club voted overwhelmingly, and by that I mean at least 90% of the club voted in favor after it was passed by the BOD. Your Stinson connection may have some flawed assumptions as well but I really don't have facts to back it up. I believe he represented a fishing group on the WCC which became AZSFWC, and does not have the all the baggage that AZSFW carries. But again I dont know much about him or Johnson. Hayes Gilstrap you're on the money. Kent I wish you would have had the pleasure of going toe to toe with Lori Faeth and her thoughts on this type of appointment. I honestly believe you would see where I am coming from and would'nt be putting so much faith in having the pleasure of an appointment like this lie solely with the Governor. If you don't think special interest is still in play without a bill like this...I got some Oceanfront Property for sale! Nick
  3. I'll be perfectly honest. I worked with both Hayes and Sue as the rep for the Club. I like them both. I don't have the same level of confidence with Hayes and didn't seem to agree with him as much or don't feel that he had the same mostly positive relationship with the Club that we might have enjoyed with Sue Chilton, or Robbie Woodhouse (obviously). I don't agree with Gary Stinson on a few things and said so publicly in the WCC emails that used to go around. Other than that, I don't know much about him. I have my own doubts about him, but mostly believe he would represent whoever it is he is supposed to represent well. I don't know a thing about Don Johnson, other than what was posted. I honestly don't believe that AZSFW got the Commission appointees they were really after in the first two go rounds, so facts tell me that the AZSFW conspiracy machine isn't working all that great. After they have been exposed recently, I honestly don't believe they'll have a whole lot of horsepower in the coming years. Nick
  4. No I am not kidding. I don't know Sue Chilton that well personally but I do know that she is a woman of principles and integrity. She and her husband Jim stood up to bullys like the CBD and DOW and won in court on proving malice on the behalf of those POS when it came to how they treated their leased grazing lands. I'll have that woman guard my back any day, any time, anywhere. I do know Phil Townsend personally and trust that man like I might trust someone in my own family. He is salt of the earth. If you are going to question his morals and ethics you are certainly not very well informed at the least. I won't go any further than that. So according to the way you guys are thinking and this is just one giant well orchestrated conspiracy on behalf of the AZSFW, you need to stop sipping the Kool Aid! If you honestly believe that Phil Townsend gave two bits what Suzanne Gilstrap has to say or that he is somehow on the take, then you are now saying that George and I, and the rest of the YVRGC who supported Phil through this process as our representative, are on the "take" so to speak and so easily "influenced", you are really blowing some smoke!
  5. One more thing I would like to point out in regards to SB1200 that some of you may not have such hearburn over. The law also holds the Governor's Office's feet to the fire when it comes to the timeliness of the appointment. It is a huge disservice to the sportsmen to have a Governor play games with an appointment, and hold it well into the spring as we have seen a few times in the not so recent past. With the timeline that this law has in place we have seen the Commission Appointee Nomination Confirmation be one of the first things the Senate gets done and we have a new Commissioner in February, like we should. Do we all believe that is so bad. If so, I suggest you research what the Director of the Department might think about that. Don't want to put words in his mouth, but I personally believe he might be of a different opinion.
  6. Kent I like you and your passion and agree with 99% of what you post on here. Please don't consider this a personal attack, but if you or anyone else believes that Janet Napolitano or any potential future governor like her, gave or gives a crap about your "democratic foundation" when it comes to appointments like this, you've got another thing coming. You are factually incorrect that this is a "democratic process of public choice". Nick
  7. Someone correct me of I'm wrong, but has there ever been 5 people actually sitting on the Commission Appointment Board? I believe that they have operated with only 4 members so far. In that case 2/4= .5. .5 rounded up is a majority. Mostly kidding on the math part but up these most recent appointments and confirmations, that is the way it actually operated. Aren't these all individuals capable of their own thoughts and decisions, or do we really believe that AZSFW has the power to sway these individual's opinions or the voted on opinions of their respective organizations, if they are even taking a vote on a prospective Commissioner? Losing on a vote is a part of a democracy. We can never guarantee a win. Not sure I am following your logic there. I'm not saying that the bill is perfect. I am saying that there is benefit to having a board pick folks who could represent us well, rather than leave it up to the political winds that blow around the Governor's Office come appointment time. I don't think we should paint any of these issues with broad brush strokes of Black and White. There are varying degrees of good and bad in just about every issue. Nick
  8. Just want to point out that the Commission Appointment Board may not be all bad. Might want to look at it from all angles before we throw the baby out with the bathwater. If and when this state takes a political left turn, we might want some of the benefits that we currently enjoy with the Board in place. Keep in mind that the Governor gets to decide who sits on this Board, not AZSFW. I have the utmost confidence in at least two of the members of that board to watch out for our interests. They are Phil Townsend and Sue Chilton. I think many of us already know more about Phil than we realize by knowing MatthewP45, his stepson. Lets not cast a dark shadow over all those who are doing their best to serve us. Nick

    CC Hits

I put 5 people in for elk, 3 individual apps and one group app with 2. My card was hit for 3 elk tag fees! I put 2 people in for pronghorn, 2 individual apps. My card was hit for 2 pronghorn tag fees! Pending final results, it looks like I'm going pronghorn and elk hunting with my bow this year! Nick

Any Tips For Catfish At Alamo?

My favorite baits for channel cats are chicken livers, chunks of mackeral or sardines, or nightcrawlers. Hardest part of fishing with livers is keeping it on the hook but it sure does work well. Treble hooks can help with that. Use an egg sinker on your main line and about a 2 foot leader with your hook attached to a barrel swivel. Good Luck!

    White Mountains Fishing ?s

My girlfriend's parents are visiting Arizona next month and we are planning a trip to the White Mountains. We will be staying in Greer the weekend of April 21-22. I am wondering if anyone can recommend a place to take my girlfriend's Dad and her 2 boys fishing that time of year? We are not looking for the next world record but would love to be able to put a few fish in the frying pan and entertain the guests and kids. Where would you recommend trying? We are looking for whatever bites but I have trout in mind. Are the Greer Lakes (River, Tunnel, Bunch) worth spending any time at? Do you think Big Lake will be open by then? Any thoughts on the Show Low area lakes? When I was a kid we used to fish Hawley Lake and I've been to the E Fork of the Black to catch Apache Trout many years ago, but I don't have any recent experience fishing there. Any pointers would really be appreciated! Thanks! Nick

    White Mountains Fishing ?s

Sounds like if the road is open, I should proceed directly to Big Lake and/or Crescent Lake. If that backfires I'll try right there in Greer. If that don't work I'm headed to Show Low. Sound about right? Anywhere else I should be considering? We'll be prepared to soak nightcrawlers and powerbait. Would also like to try some spinners/lures. What should I try? Panther Martins, Rapalas, Mepp's, Kastmasters, Flatfish? What colors would you recommend? How about size/weight? Techniques? Thanks for all the help so far guys! I'd be happy to share what I know about fishing the Lower Colorado here near Yuma if anyone is interested. Nick

    White Mountains Fishing ?s

Thanks! I don't have a boat so we will be fishing from shore or renting a boat if available at Big Lake or elsewhere. I really want to try Big Lake, but I'd like to have a back up plan just in case the roads are still closed. Forgot that Turkey opened that weekend. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for good weather! Nick
  14. The Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society has posted on their Facebook page that they have voted to OPPOSE HB 2072. Good Job ADBSS!
  15. Bravo Ryan! That was an excellent analysis my friend!
  16. Just spoke with Representative Justin Pierce who I attended elementary school with. He heard me out and wanted to know the history. I believe he understands our perspective and I believe we will have his support if this ever comes to a floor vote. He emphasized our need to stay on top of the committee members where this might be heard again.
  17. Cast Dispersions? Not really sure what that means. I think I learned about dispersions in Physics class or something. Now if you meant cast aspersions, that was not my intention and I'm sorry if you feel that way. We can agree to disagree on how we go about things, but remember we're on the same team here. Nick
  18. Roger that Lark. If I choose to forgive that's my right. Tell you what..you do things your way, I'll do them mine...deal? I choose to follow the example of my upbringing and that is to forgive people who ask for forgiveness. I knew Chris before AZSFW existed and I'm not ready to crucify the guy for his faults. I don't think it is appropriate to discredit all the good things he has done for Sportsmen because of a recent bad decision. Nick
  19. Still don't know about Chris quitting AZSFW, but he did post on OnYourOwnAdventures that he is now opposed to HB2072 and owned up to making a mistake. Chris if you read this I owe you an apology for my comment above. I appreciate you making a statement. This whole mess has been rough on a lot of people to different degrees. http://onyourownadventures.com/hunttalk/showthread.php?t=250104 Thanks Chris!
  20. Toby, Maybe you don't know me. Allow me to introduce myself to you. I am an Arizona native and an avid outdoorsman. I don't guide or own a business. I work in civil service. It appears as though you are not familiar with my history with the organization and other conservation efforts in AZ. The first big issue I ever got involved with was when Game N Fish wanted to put the Kaibab to a draw. I didnt think they had enough info to make that decision as many others did. I then got involved in the YVRGC. I served as the Legislative Chairman prior to George Reiners and after Jon Fugate. I was also on the Board and the VP. Obviously I was fairly active. When AZSFW was taking shape they asked Fugate to serve. He was "retiring" from legislative issues so my name was suggested. I was selected and was involved in Azsfw from the very start. My main reason to be there was to address the big political issues that the crittet groups would generally not address. Many times if issues did not involve their critter, the group would not take a stand. Arizona needed a bigger, stronger voice in politics. Thats what AZSFW was supposed to do. Not put on a dang banquet like Utah. To make the story shorter I'll fast forward to 2010. I drew an antelope and a sheep tag that year. Also bought a house and started dating the love of my life. I pretty much lost my gusto for hunting issues and just wanted to get back to the roots, hunting. Enter George Reiners. Since the beginning of 2011, I have not been on any board and have no vote anywhere. I am a Life Member of YVRGC and a member of ADBSS, thats it. Hopefully you and others now know a little more about me and understand that the post you refer to and every other post you will read from me is nothing but sincere. PS - I let the ADBSS have it on their Facebook page and I encourage other members to do the same. Nick

Here's a pic of the Skull Mount I had done. Arizona's 100th Birthday was my inspiration for the backboard. Nick
