Beautiful ram, Congrats!

Congratulations all around!

I think your other thread got pulled! LOL! That was pretty good though.

Guy is a dumbass! I know for sure that the Game and Fish Detective types look for this all the time and bust lots of people trying to get our tags like he did to Utah. That being said I met him and issued him his YPG Hunting Permit and gave him a briefing back 10 or so years ago. He was a nice guy and was very knowledgable about sheep.

I'm down. March is pretty wide open for me.

$300 for the boat or each?

Awesome pics Larry! I would love to get into some of that wonderful variety of bottom critters the Sea of Cortez has to offer...Grouper, Cabrilla, Pargo, Bass, Snappers all sound like a blast to catch. Plus I can always go for some Hamachi! I agree that something has to give for there to be a sustainable fishery for the folks living along the Sea and a few of us gueros. I recently read a story about how the commercial ban on fishing the N. Sea of Cortez now has the fishermen in El Golfo de Santa Clara participating in the illegal totoaba swim bladder trade, along with the drugs. They are killing more totoaba and vaquita than ever before. How sad! I have no problem releasing the majority of the fish I catch, but I always like to keep some. The problem with the commercialization of sport fishing is the expense. Once the word gets out that there are gringos willing to pay top dollar, a good deal goes out the window. Its human nature to take a mile when given an inch when it comes to making money and it would totally suck if the expense of fishing in the Sea of Cortez gets beyond the reach of the average guy who just wants to go fishing with his buddies or his kids. San Diego has pretty much priced a lot of us out of going multiple times a year. My income has increased significantly since I used to do a lot of saltwater fishing but unfortunately so have the prices of those trips! It's almost $400 for a 1.5 day trip now. That's insane for such a short time on the water fishing. That is why Mexico is so inviting to me, along with the variety. I am good with rustic accommodations, but the more modern these places get, the more expensive and cost prohibitive it becomes for the average joe. That's what I'm most afraid of.

Has anyone ever been on a Tony Reyes trip or any of the "mother ship" trips in the Sea of Cortez out of San Felipe? That would be a great week of fishing. Slightly different kind of long range. I need to go on one of those!

I always have both tags. We found a nice 150" or so 4X4 Saturday. He was in a bad spot with too many girlfriends in the mix to get it done. The javelina didn't get the message that they were supposed to make their appearance I guess.

I wish I could hunt more this week but there's this thing called work, even though I am technically furloughed I had to be at work today. Now its looking like the furlough is ending and back to normal for a couple weeks so really not going to have time. I live a few hours from the closest real habitat and just don't get to go as much as I wish I could.

$600 is decent if you fish all 3 days. I guess he still has the old price on his website in a spot or two. I'm easily confused but its all good! I'm furloughed with some extra time on my hands so if anyone is planning a trip and needs a body, let me know. I don't get sick. I'll pull my own weight and then some. Not afraid to have a good time but mean business when its time to fish. Let me know!

Dude with the co-op raised his price $100 yesterday. He must read Coueswhitetail.com!

I hear that. First cast ever with a megabait was at the baitbarge in the Bay in SD. Got a hook up and was bringing it in and a sea lion stole my fish and my megabait. Hero to zero! The whole boat got a good laugh from that one!
-
I've had good luck with Megabaits on yellows.
-
Shows my ignorance. Live bait is what I'm used to on the sporties in SD.

All great info guys! Thanks a ton. I would love to check this place out! I have 15, 25, and 40 lb live bait rigs ready to get after it! Just need to find the right time and someone to travel with that speaks better Spanish than me. I do OK living near "La Frontera" my whole life but a fluent speaker can go a long ways in a bind.

PRDATR, Check out Tom Alber's page online. Looks like he provides travel to and from Chandler, lodging, breakfasts and dinners, and fishing for up to 4 days for $500. Not a bad deal compared to everything out of San Diego. Heck, hard to get on a 2 day for that now. Never done it so have no experience or knowledge other than what's online.

I just re-read this thread after the suggestions on the Puerto Penasco Panga thread. Need to recruit someone to go with me one of these days. So do you guys rent a local's place to sleep? What about camping?
-
My wife and I are headed to Puerto Penasco on a short trip to help build a house with 1Mission. We are going a day early to have some fun and we are planning on doing some 1/2 Day Panga fishing this Friday. What should I expect for species? Other advice? I have been on plenty of 1/2, 3/4 day and up to 2 day on the Pacific and wreck fishing in the Atlantic but have never fished at Rocky Point. Getting fired up!
-
Thanks for the advice Larry. I will look you up if something like that ever becomes a possibility.

El Golfo de Santa Clara is at the northern end of the Sea of Cortez due west of Puerto Penasco. It was once just a small fishing village but is also a place for a few gringos and a bunch of Mexicanos from the area to hit the beach. Its about an hour and a half from Yuma. Just under an hour due south from San Luis Rio Colorado.

Back from Mexico. Stopped in El Golfo on the way down and had a nice lunch. Continued to PP. Had a great fishing trip. Sorry I didn't take any pics of the fish with my phone but my buddy did so when I get some from him I will share. You guys nailed it. Mostly triggers and bass but a few odd critters thrown in here and there. One called a "mother in law" fish or "boca grande". Had a few of those. I also caught a really skinny little fish that I have no idea what it was. One nice pinto bass was also caught (not by me). Great time for $40 bucks all inclusive! Got windy on the way back in and a little hairy! 10 miles out or so. I would do it again in a heartbeat but hopefully when the water is a bit warmer and more of the bigger fish are ready to bite. On a different note I was blessed to be a part of building the 700th home in PP by 1Mission! Its awesome to see how God moves people to share the Love of Jesus with others. The family we built for worked right along with us and it was a very moving experience for all involved!

This is the 10th trip for the group I am going with but will be the 2nd time for us. Only better way to work so hard while having fun is a waterhole project!
