Can't wait to see the results! Mike is an awesome guy and helped me a ton when I had my tag as well.

Probably a ranch unless someone knows of a great public land place to hunt. Unfortunately Texas has nowhere near the amount of public land as a percentage as Arizona does.

I'm going to start a new thread to see who else is interested. I apologize SEAZCoues for putting your thread on a bit of a tangent. Hopefully these posts got some ideas moving around for you!

Heck of a deal for someone looking for a wall tent! Good luck with your sale!

Nice work!

1st one looks like jackrabbit. I've also seen cattle munch on pear pads like that. 2nd looks like a deer with his antlers.

Tejon ranch is over a grand for the guided hunt. Not my flavor at this time. Is that Nate Treadwell? Nice hog by the way! I would like to try the management hunt at Tejon if that is still in the works and it's available to get on. Seeing that you have been before maybe we could do OK without a guide? From Hunter's Creek: Free Range Hog Hunts $200.00 per day No minimum days required, without food & lodging. $250.00 per day, No minimum days required, with food & lodging. Guide fee: $50.00 per sitting (fully guided hunt) Hog Hunts- One day hog hunt includes one night lodging, with meals, limit 2 hog per day. $275.00 Two day hog hunt includes two nights lodging, with meals, limit 2 hogs per day. $550.00 Three day hog hunt includes 3 nights, with meals, limit 2 hogs per day. $825.00 Daily bag limits do not carry over. Youth Hog Hunts, 16 years and younger......with paid adult One day hunt $200.00 Two day hunt $400.00 Three day hunt $600.00 Lodging and meals included with youth hunts **No expandable broad heads** Fees include (per day) One hog over 100lb's & one under 100lb's On your smaller hog anything over 100lb is $1.00 per pound.

Hunter's Creek Ranch in NE Texas has high and low fence. Maybe that would work for everyone. They charge $200 -$275 a day depending if you want meals included as well and whether you're hunting the low or high fence part. I think they have dogs that can help you stick one with a knife if that's your thing. There's a guy in Cali that puts on private land hog hunts that charges $250 per person for guiding and $200 if you get your hog. That's a two day hunt. They have lodging and kitchen just need to bring food. That's about the cheapest I've found over there which would be half the driving than anywhere in Texas. He fills up really quick though so we might not be able to get on for a while with him. A California hunting license ($160ish) and pig tag ($72 or so) would be required in addition to the guide and kill fee (if you score). Cottonwood Hunting LLC is the name of the outfit.

Got you on the list DesertBull! Seems like we have a fair amount of interest. Now let's see if most guys are interested in a free range hunt where hogs come and go from the hunting property or a high fence hunt where shooting opportunity is almost guaranteed. Let's hear it if you guys have a preference. That should help narrow things down.

For sure Adam, I have you on the top of my list of guys who might want to go. SEAZCoues is right there with you. Anybody else game for a trip like this? Might not be a bad idea to do one "scouting" trip before I take the Mrs. and the youngsters. Nick

I've been doing a ton of research on this topic. I want to kill a hog. What I've found out is the hogs are much bigger and the hunting is more expensive in California but there is more of a fair chase atmosphere there. Texas is much less expensive per hog, but quite a ways further for travel to the better hog areas. I've also discovered that there are basically two different kind of hunts, high fence and low fence. Some of the outfits that look good on paper in addition to the ones posted earlier I have come across are: 4 Pines Ranch Hunters Creek Ranch Arrowhead Outfitters Hog Heaven Ranch Hog Mountain Ranch Helgram Pines Dos Plumas Ranch Does anyone here have any input whatsoever on any of these outfits? I also have a lead or two for some hunts that are not advertised on the web much. If anyone is possibly interested in a late spring or early summer trip to Texas for some hog hunting please let me know. This might be a good opportunity to team up for driving and get in on some hogs! Thanks, Nick PS I tried to contact Fort Rock Ranch but their follow through has been less than desirable. Good communication on something like this is a MUST!

Is anyone else getting pumped up for the January ritual a lot of us do every year? I'm starting to get pretty fired up. Need to be sure I have it all dialed in before go time! I don't have a tag yet, but have not been skunked on a leftover yet, so hope remains. I'm pretty sure I'll be going for the SW units hunt. If anyone has any pity for the most pathetic javelina hunter in the state (me), I'm open to hand outs, hand me downs, leftovers, and scraps and anything in between if you think you can help me get a javi! Good Luck to all in 2015!

I've posted some threads on my javelina misery in the forum here. You should look back a few years for my posts if you need a good laugh or two. This goes for anybody who might feel discouraged from a hunt. You can't possibly suck as bad as me!

Picked up my tags for the January archery hunts yesterday. Got a leftover javelina tag for the units on the west side of the state and a deer tag. Non-traditional habitat is probably not what the doctor ordered for the worst javelina hunter in the State, but this is what I can probably get away with having a new baby in the house. If anyone wants to join forces I'm open to any suggestions. Nick

Are you willing to ship that bad boy or hold it till I can pick it up? I'm in Yuma.
-
Not sure which border you are referring to, but both are on the move for sure. Javelina have made it as far west as the Yuma Foothills. Heard from Game and Fish WMs that they were on the golf course at Mesa Del Sol recently. The elk near Poston AZ was covered on this site earlier this fall and there is the story of the elk mentioned above from Gila Bend many years back is pretty darn far south as well.

I know of a place in Oklahoma that comes very highly recommended for bowhunting hogs but is also open to gun hunts. It's called Shiloh Ranch. There is also a place in Texas called Cinco Ranch where Rob Kiebler operates Fair Chase Ltd. That place is covered in javis but has hogs as well. These are hunts very commonly reviewed on Bowsite and come highly recommended. There might be other options for a pure gun hunt but I know these guys offer excellent bowhunting opportunities.

Way to go man! That is a gorgeous ram!

All very nice! Really like that standing full body mexicana ram with the orange horns! Spectacular!

Hi Ernesto, If there is anything I can do for you to help you with your condition let me know. I'm in Yuma. I pray that the Holy Spirit touches you with His healing hand!

You've had one heck of a season Rob! That is an awesome deer right there! Great Job!

I use a Kifaru Late Season with a Grab It most of the time. If it might get serious the Duplex Frame with Cargo Panel comes out. I think of hunting packs more for how much meat they can carry out than what little nic naks it can carry in. I can and usually do carry my bow in my hands very easily. My bow is only on my pack when it's really rough and I need all four hands for the most part, or hiking in or out in the dark. That being said I like the big bag with versatility via stuff sacks etc. versus a more divided and compartmentalized pack. Kifaru has one of if not the best suspension of any pack and their durability and customer service are top notch. Being Made in the USA put them over the top for me. Buy once, cry once...kinda like binos!

WOW! Nice bull right there! Many congratulations!
