Anyone have a Davis wall tent?

IMO no, you're not going to be walking around on the edges of the tent. Most likely that is where your cots, tables etc are going to be. The center ridge line is like 8.5 feet on these tents so they have plenty of room through the middle. Go for it! Nick

Talk to me about Blue Heelers

Lots of guys around here have one. The breed you are referring to is called the Australian Cattle Dog. They can be blue or red. Very smart and loyal but really need a job to do. If you live in an apartment and will be gone all day I would highly recommend you don't get this dog. If you live on a farm where the dog can keep himself occupied with the other critters or you are going to have it with you all day, they make great companions, but left alone to their own devices without direction they can cause issues like digging, chewing, etc. etc. I love em!

    Back from San Diego

Nice report! Thanks for sharing with us landlocked types. Those skipjack tuna are some of the best fish for sashimi I've ever had.

    Illinois - I got a tag!

Very cool, good luck. I would imagine that public land worth hunting is a pretty hot commodity during the season in Illinois compared to AZ. Hope you have someone that can do some scouting for you and you can find a little piece of paradise all to yourself. Have fun!

    What would you do . . .

I chose 6B because I know it better than pretty much any other Unit in the state. I wouldn't hesitate to hunt Unit 8 either. The 5s can also be great hunts. My cousin has the Peaks rifle hunt this year and I'm going to try to make it for his hunt. Hit me up in late October and I'll give you the report of his hunt.

    Hoochie Mama elk calls

Was trying to put a sneak on a herd a couple of years ago in Unit 1 and they seemed to be getting frisky. About that time I noticed two other guys coming up behind me. When the bull came through the opening I stopped him at around 80 yards with my diaphragm call. He paused for a moment but saw his ladies making their way out of there so he didn't hesitate long. When the two guys saw the bull they started hitting that stupid Hoochie Mama about 100 times a minute and I don't think the elk stopped running until they hit New Mexico. I have honestly never seen elk react so negatively to a call. Maybe it was their method, but I was not impressed with their "calling". Neither were the elk. Nick

Amanda has been called out for the Ice Challenge

I saw George "dubya" Bush take the challenge. If he can do it, YOU CAN DO IT! PS Coors Whitetail has a pretty good ring to it..."Kill a deer, drink a beer. Coors!"

    knives

Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter is my favorite fixed blade hunting knife in my collection at the moment. That is one seriously stout little knife with perfect ergonomics, a razor sharp blade, and a very grippy handle material. I also carry a Benchmade mini-griptilian 555 just about everywhere I go. Love that knife. I have a few Made in USA Kershaws that I won't be parting with if I can help it. I want to try a Buck 113 Ranger skinner someday.
