I have a weatherby vanguard in 25-06 that shoots good. I know its not a tikka but I thought I would let you know what shoots good in it. This target was shot with federal premium ammo, 117gr sierra gameking. This is the only ammo that I have shot through this gun because it was accurate enough for me. I shot a small mule deer in November last year and he stopped dead in his tracks. The shot was 200 yards but I never found the bullet so I couldn't tell you what it looked like afterwards but it did the job.

First archery kill, and first javelina + This is what the skull looked like afterwards.

We were out hunting yesterday and saw two bucks fight for about 10 mins straight. It was really cool to see. Then two small bucks came in and chased the doe of mid way through the fight. The two big bucks had no idea until it was all over.

I saw a lone ram up there during the mule deer hunt. That was the first time that I had seen any sheep.

I took my deer to Von Hanson's this year. A buddy of mine took his javelina there at the beginning of the year and the sausage they made was amazing! I would highly recommend them over southwest but that is just my opinion.

Sportsmanswarehouse going out of business?
briant_az replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I am sure that a lot of the people that have replied to this post have found this out but I thought I would tell you what I know about the situation. Yes 23 stores are closing and another 15 were sold to UFA. The biggest problem now is that they filled bankruptcy about two and a half weeks ago. They have been having financial problems for some time now; I think that the consumers have just started to notice since the end of the year. The bankruptcy could be good or bad for the company but only time will tell. I will however say that I am sorry for the poor treatment that anyone may have received in the last couple of months. I know that I am probably guilty of this but it is a difficult situation. On a daily basis I have to explain this situation to at least a hundred people, more than half of them pissed off because we do not have the products that they want. This takes its toll on the employees and I think we take that out on the customers, which is not right. We also have no control over the situation and this makes it hard on us as well. There is not a person in Arizona or in each of the Arizona stores that orders for our stores. This is all done in Utah. People get so pissed at me because I don't know what people need. I may know but that doesn't mean that I can get that product in our store. This is were the smaller stores have an advantage, the know what they are out of and they can call their vendors and get the product they need/want. The other problem is the Obama situation. People have been freaking out about what is going to happen to firearms now that we have a Democratic president. When we used to get shipments of ammo in we would bring the pallet out to the sales floor. We only did this after the election because people were waiting for the product to come in. Everyone was so scared, at least that is my opinion, that they were not going to be able to get the stuff. We couldn't put it away fast enough, so we wheeled it out and let the customer go through it and get what they want. The bare shelves are because of a multitude of things but they are supposed to be getting better. We are slowly starting to get stock again but the stuff that we get that is any good is gone as soon as we get it. Don't get me wrong we are not getting all the stuff that we need but it will come in time. I have heard that or reloading supplies will not get any better for a while because the product is hard to find now. I hope this helps everyone understand the situation that is going on with Sportsman's and I hope that our customers will eventually come back. I am also very discouraged about the whole thing but I hope that there are brighter days ahead. -
I don't know how you do it but you always seem to come through and shoot a nice buck! Good job Cody!

Nikon Monarch ATB Binocular replacement parts
briant_az replied to swishjth's topic in Optics and tripods
You could take them into Sportsman's and they will send them in for you, but it will take a while. You will also have to pay for the shipping to send them and anything they may charge to repair them (usually free). If you contact Nikon yourself it will probably take half as long and it will cost you the same amount of money. They like to deal with the customer more than a store, even if the product is a customers. Hope that helps a little -
Congratulations Christian!! Both of those are nice looking bucks!

I don't know if you really want to tell or not but was this trip really expensive??? I have always wanted to hunt pheasant but have never really had the money to go and do it. I know all the outfitters at the ISE show where charging quite a bit for their hunts.

That sounds like a fun trip to me!! It looks like it is really beautiful up there this time of year. This year was the first time that I have ever been to Big Lake and Crescent Lake but we had no luck. Good to see that someone had some luck up there. Did you eat the fish or release them??

Quail near Queen Creek
briant_az replied to briant_az's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Thanks DB. We are going out tomorrow morning. -
I just wanted to know if anyone knows a good spot to hunt quail near queen creek. My father is diabetic and has resonantly had some surgery on his feet. This means that the walking that he can do is minimal. I usual go up near Wickenburg but I have to walk quite a bit to find them most of the time. We have not hunted together in about 10 years and I would love to get into some birds with him. Any help that any of you could give me would be appreciated.
