    Sunday smoke fest....

I haven't hunted 22 since mid 70's. Killed my first deer ever on my first hunt there -mulie. Only hunted coues for 2years in 36b. Looking for my first coues.
  2. What are opinions on how the number of cattle in an area affects coues? I've seen a couple of wt does in the area we're scouting but no bucks. Quite a few cows using the same section. Put up with the cattle or find a different spot?

    6A Archery Elk

I like being to hunt the whole unit as we have special spots in the north and south. Some years the tag you drew and the animals in our area don't "match up"

    does anybody know this person?

I got back with an unfilled tag but awesome bull hunt in 6A on Sunday. Great weather and good friends to spend time with. Chased elk every day and had several close calls on filling my tag- no shots but could have taken 2 small bulls. That's what the hunt is all about- great to fill the tag but its the going and being there- that is what's important. The over competitiveness and having to get something at all costs is what will undo our sport. Because I have to work it took me 2 days to read all the pages on this thread. HILIARIOUS! Most fun I've had since my last elk hunt- ha!

    cats/ elk?

After reviewing my trail cam pics I was pretty amazed at what was had been captured. For the first 3 weeks the elk were coming thru pretty regularly. Then my camera captured the pic of a mountain lion- I did not get another elk pic for 1 week. Do cats have that much affect on animals as large as elk? For the record 90 % of the pics were of bulls- minimal cow/ calf activity there. Any observations anyone else might have on this situation?

    stoen cameras

My friend an I went up to 6A to retrieve his cam he'd put on a water hole. He assumed it would be gone as he had left it in a fairly obvious place and it was not locked. We were surprised when we got there that the cam was still in place. We walked further up a hill to check another location and were gone about 20 minutes. When we returned to the cam site it was GONE! It had been up there a month and it was snatched off the tree in the short time we were up the hill- we heard a quad when we were up the hill but couldn't see anything- talk about crappy luck for us and some good luck for someone that just missed getting caught! He'd have been in some deep doodoo.

    Tres Bellotas Gunfire

I just watched a National Geographic program showing how the Tohono O'Odham tribe tracks and captures the drug runners that enter thru that part of the state. They have what they call the "12 wolves" (ice officers) that specialize in locating and tracking the smugglers- mostly on foot. 12 is not nearly enough to control that large an area. They do some on quads but the smugglers hear them from way off and just hole up. Interesting and hard work - most of the smugglers lose their cargo but 1 in 3 smugglers get away. It is going to get worse down there if the border isn't secured!

    **Draw Results**

nothing but I now have 1 bonus point-
  18. You have to get everyone you know that hunts, fishes and owns a firearm to join their favorite organization. Even people who don't fall into these groups need to be shown, how one by one, our freedoms are being dimished or taken away. Most people wait for someone else to do the work and then it's too late when a bad bill or regulation passes. Get mad! Get involved! Work to get the right people elected to office! The political section of this website is one of the most important but one of the least used. SAD!

    Any idea

I had to get rid of my high gloss stock so I ordered from Cabelas a Remington black composite stock to replace the factory wood stock on my Rem 700- no complaints -and it was inexpensive

    36B hunt

You had better luck than we did- we were in the Yellow Jacket creek area and saw no whitetail bucks in 3 days of hard hunting and glassing

    The Rut

We glassed our eyeballs out for 3 days in 36B -Yellow Jacket Creek area, and found 5 whitetail does and 8 mule deer- 1 was a 2pt buck- needless to say- we got skunked-- no rut activity without bucks - I did get to witness a whitetail doe in full escape mode from a yote at about 300 yds- I've never seen an animal in the wild move that fast- no shot at the yote- he was at full speed also- she got away

36B Very Dry and Very few Deer

I'm headed down there this weekend to scout up for our thanksgiving weekend hunt. We were near Pena Blanca last year with no sucess- saw only 2 spikes and several does. There were more mule deer doe than whitetail. No muley bucks. Too much border patrol activity down there. We'll try a little further north.

    6A whitetail

Get out very early, find a good vantage point, get some good glass, and look under every bush. Look for some of the steeper canyons in the area and search the areas going in and our of them- saddles and draws. Brush choked bedding areas is where they'll end up after sunrise - hard to see into- but that's where thay are. Wet Beaver and West Clear Creek ar good drainages to scout.
