I figure the later you mail them the better chance they'll just put them on top of the existing pile. Lol!

I mailed for my leftover archery tag on the 22nd which is about when they updated the list the 2nd time. The 3rd time they updated there were no tags left for hunt I put in for. I got tag 1536, or somewhere around there, out of 1600.

Gun and shot legalism
DUG replied to Big Tub's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Why go looking for a ticket? Just shoot steel or whatever non-toxic shot is legal for waterfowl. When we used to pond jump ducks while we were quail hunting we made sure no lead was on our person just in case we got stopped. And to what you said about them checking the carcass for lead. We never got checked. There's always a gray area with most things hunting. Just my opinion! -
Anything you are accurate with. I've seen javis shot with wadcutters, hollow points and everything in between. I think I'm more accurate at 40 yds. with my bow than my handgun. I like a shoulder holster for 6 inch plus guns. Too much weight on the hips makes for a shorter day.

Hope you named him the Cholla ram.

I would get a Hornady reloading manual and pick out a load from there. If you using a cowboy action pistol maybe consider a .44 special load.

Great story and great lesson learned about doing the right thing. I almost had this happen 33 years ago on a WT hunt in 23. Saw 2 bucks feeding. Shot at one. Saw 2 bucks running away. Shot at one of them but missed, thankfully. Went to spot of 1st shot and found buck dead. It went down so fast and never saw the 3rd buck with the other 2. Congrats on your buck. I keep telling people anyrthing can happen on a hunt and it does.

Karen was right! Haha! In all seriousness you are a great hunter and obviously work hard at it. I hope you find your elk. Lord knows you worked your tail off. Between the truck mishap and the lion you kind of saw it all. I enjoyed all your adventures here. Good luck!

I used to go up to that area (Q Ranch) alot when I was younger. I would usually come up from the South. I stumbled upon the graves one trip and I believe a small monument telling about the Pleasant Valley wars. I will see about getting the book.
