I had a similar thing happen when I was younger and inexperienced. 2 bucks standing there in the junipers. Take aim and shoot. 2 deer now running. Shoot 2 more times and miss. Come to find out I hit one of the bucks 1st shot and it dropped behind a rock. Turns out there were 3 bucks and I only saw 2. Good thing I can't hit a running buck. (There's that inexperience thing again) As akaspecials said you should always check your shot before shooting again especially if it's brushy or from a blind. It's very easy to get caught up in the moment.

Glad you remembered! Reminds me of a deer hunt in 23 one year. My nephew had a borrowed Swaro spotting scope. I shot a buck on the last day. We got it back to the truck and left to go get Luke from school. Got almost back to the 260 and Ryan says "I forgot the spotting scope". We make a mad dash back almost side swiping a cattle trailer and Ryan runs up the hill and gets the scope. On the way down he starts running and soon he's going faster than his legs can keep up. I think he did a couple unintended cartwheels and then a couple rolls and finally a superman dive. The whole time the Swaro spotter is rolling down behind him. Luckily it was in a protective tube case. One of the funniest things I've ever seen! We got back just in time to get Luke.

I was brought up in a non hunting family. My Dad bought me a BB gun and I started hunting sparrows and starlings in the backyard. We started dove hunting because some friends did it. Then quail. Then javelina. Then deer. Then elk. Then antelope. Then put in for bighorn and buffalo. My wife's side of the family hunted when I met her so I fit right in. All 3 of my kids like to hunt. It's just hard to go sometimes with our busy schedules with school and softball etc. We do make it a point to get everyone together for a labor day dove hunt and then at least a couple days if someone gets an elk tag.

I did my 1st prime rib yesterday. I did the olive oil and seasoning rub. Then did the 500 degree for 5 min per lb. and then 2 hour oven off and not open door. Perfect medium rare. And nobody complained!

I saw a bright flash a few years ago in Chino Valley helping on an antelope hunt. The whole back of the hill and the sky lit up for like 3 seconds. Freaked me out until I found out it was a rocket launch. The launches from White Sands are extremely cool looking looking to the east.

On my buddies cow hunt in 7 there were 2 elk left to waste at a tank. We know the game warden investigated one in Sept. but not sure about the other one. G&F got the antlers off the 1st one. We couldn't even find a bull for my girls in the late hunt and these guys shoot one illegally.
