Congrats on the elk! I've seen javelina tracks in 7 but never with them standing in them…..7 o'clock is way too late to be shooting. Even 6:15 is pushing it……

My kids made me watch that a couple weeks ago. They're still grounded... Mine too. Then they wouldn't stop singing it.....

According to a couple sources, it happened when a guy was reloading and he spilled some powder in his gun, which was setting on the bench and the powder got in the firing pin area or the sear or both and when he racked a round it double tapped. I have an XD-s and won't be sending it in anytime soon. Especially since there is no fix. Mine shoots just fine.

I'm taking my 10 year old daughter up to 7 for her jr. deer hunt tomorrow. She is excited considering a year ago she had not much interest in big game hunting. She has good eyes so hopefully she will spot the deer 1st. Getting it to stand still will be a different story.

There is no distance for a bow. G&F says just don't piss off your neighbor or let the deer die in an unfriendly neighbors yard.

Just got back from Tonto Basin. It was hot today. Luke Duke and I finished around 9:30. (Well I did). He got 2 birds with 1 shot and called it a day. He stayed at the truck and watched me roam the hills sweating. I got birds 14 and 15 on the way back to the truck. My spot did not appear to have as many birds as last year and the biggest covey I saw was about 25 birds. Most were 10 or so. The prickly pear fruit was spotty in my area. Last year had more fruit. No snakes to report either.

Was just going thru Luke Duke's bird vest looking for shells for quail tomorrow, and "sniff sniff", a dead dove! He had so many empty shells in the bird pouch it's no wonder he left one in there.

It's that time again! Looks like the desert should be fairly green. I am heading out to my usual opening day spot in Tonto Basin for about the 28th straight year.( might have missed 1 year) Hope it is better than last year.

You can only buy 2014 licenses at G&F or online at G&F. If you buy it now until Dec. 31st it is good from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31st 2014. Starting Jan. 1st 2014 the license is good for a year from date of purchase. The new rates don't start until Jan. 1 2014. I still had to pay $15 for my girls youth hunting family license that I bought on line last week.

This buck is the same buck she missed last Saturday. Friday afternoon found us back in the same area. We were glassing and swatting mosquitoes and found a nice herd of elk. We found our antelope on the same hill about to go over the top. Where we were watching from was 600 yards and looking into the sun. We decided to make a move and come at them from the right. We topped the hill and found them less than 200 yards. She made a great shot with the 270 WSM and put it down.

Just got home. Story to follow………in about 8 hours….
