Ok, now I got the name with the face. Sucks you had to work today. As you could tell we were heading to Cabelas. It was a mini zoo. Have a Happy New Year!
-
Congrats on all those elk! Looks like you had a great time.

You should be able to get a CZ452 American for about 400 to 440 depending on who will deal with you. The Varmint is a little more. CZ also has a 513 Basic that will go around 300. You can compare on Gunbroker and maybe find a really good used one in your price range.

Just ordered the 10x42 Back Country for the wife. She complained about not having good binoculars on her elk hunt. Thanks gr8fuldoug!

Way to go man! That's awesome to get your 1st elk all by yourself. You earned that one.

Congrats on a fine ram! Only 29 more years until my tag..... ....

Nice! Way to go! I'll probably be 70 or dead before I get a sheep tag........

This was our 3rd elk hunt this season. I got a cow in 7W in October.. My wife had tag soup in 6A for bull. LukeDuke shot a cow this morning just after 7 in 7W. He was in a clearcut area and a herd of elk were coming through. They were just over a rise going through and LukeDuke topped the rise and 2 cows were standing there. He shot it about 90 yards off hand and hit it. It bucked and ran just out of sight. I got up there after I heard the shot. He said he hit it and was looking for it. I looked down and was standing on a blood spot and then looked up to my right and saw the elk laying there dead. Luke had walked 50 yards past it. I said "get over here and tag your elk". He couldn't believe he had walked within 20 yards of it and didn't see it. What would he do without Dad? Good job LukeDuke and thanks for a fun hunt! He even let me shoot a coyote on the 1st morning.

If you are using steel shot, I would put in an improved cylinder. Steel doesn't have any "give" to it when it is passing through the choke like lead, so you want a more open choke. Good luck to you (him) on the hunt!
-
Way to go! Congrats. My 1st bull was a spike in 6A almost 20 years ago. I remember it like yesterday. You will have good memories of your bull.
-
If it was black it was me. What were you in? Were you hunting elk too?
-
Looks great, just needs the deer on each end.

We are hauling the whole family up to 6A for my wifes bull hunt. They all want to help Mom get a bull. Hopefully we will be bringing Jeremy an elk to process. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Family Quail Hunt
DUG replied to yumabowhunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Nice! We were in Yuma Sat. and Sunday for a softball tournament. I wanted to go hunt Sunday morning but the girls had to play at 8 A.M. That's cool you got the whole family out there. -
Congrats to you and your Dad! Both are nice bucks. Looks like he can keep up with you quite well.........

Here is another vote for Hankook. These are Dyna Pro MT's 285/70/17. Load range D. These are surprisingly quiet on the pavement for a mud tire. I've always run BFG AT but decided to go with these this time. -
Nice! Congrats on a limit.

BEST CHOKE AND SHOT SIZES FOR QUAIL
DUG replied to coues hunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
For desert Gambels hunting without dogs, I use 7 1/2's and a modified choke, sometimes going to an Improved Modified. I want a good amount of pellets on the bird. I will shoot them on the way down if it looks like I didn't make a good hit. -
Congrats! Those deer are crazy little boogers.......
