I know of one hitting the dirt this morning in 23.

Warn is one of the better names. But it is top dollar. Harbor Freight has Chicago Electric winches but I only saw 10k lbs. Not sure of price but probably under 5 bills maybe even around 400. A guy I know swears by them and he has done a lot of winching.

Congrats! You da man! Are we going to get a story too?

They are never too young! My boy was dove hunting at 8. He's now 18 and can't get outdoors enough now. I'm taking my 11 year old daughter on her 1st elk hunt Friday. Like other people have said, do it on their terms and pace. Make it fun and ice cream on the way home helps!

Browning Citori Trap Model 12 ga. 32" barrels Invector system and threaded barrels for choke tubes (no chokes included) good shape.--$900 Selling a shotgun without choke tubes is like selling a car without tires. However, those are some nice guns he's selling. -
Your dad drinks out of waterholes???? Just kidding! Congrats on a nice buck! Reminds me of my 1st deer, a 3 pt. mulie. So did you do all the work this time?

limited on quail

Nice going! Looks like Monday was a great day to be out. -
My son and I got to see our 1st mountain lion up close. It was dead. Not sure of the whole story, but from what the WM told us was that a guy was quail hunting and the lion started attacking his dog. He shot it with his shotgun but didn't kill it. The next day hounds found it and it was finished off. It was an adult female about 75 lbs. I got to see the claws. Now I know why they are amazing killers. Incredible how sharp they are. Here's a couple of pictures.

We have a brother and sister Brittany and a 10 mo. old english springer and a yellow lab. They are good on birds in the yard. We haven't really hunted them yet though. My spot at Tonto Basin is not real dog friendly. My son can also relate to that by getting stuck on the cholla a few times on Saturday.

I'm about to turn 45 and my son is 18. He'll out hunt me by the time I'm 70. I did his 1st pig and elk. It's up to him now. Although I'll probably think he's doing it wrong or too slow and want to take over.

That's funny when we hunt it's my son who gets tired 1st. I got a limit and my son got 2. We hit the check station about 11:30. I was tired too. Birds were flushing up real far.

Buckshot is not legal. Has to be shotgun shooting slug.
-
Congrats on 2 great looking trophies!
-
Hey deserthntr, did you do good on quail up there? Did you take your dog?
-
He wasn't cited, but he didn't get to keep the lion either. You can protect your dog from an attack from a lion. Now if he would of had a slug he would have been legal. And if he had a tag he could of kept it. He wasn't issued a citation because of self defense. My son and I both put our lion tags and some slugs in our pockets that morning before starting our quail hunt. And then we found out about the lion being close to where we were.

San Carlos Squirrels

That Abert you are holding on the left looks fat and huge! Looks like a good time. I'm taking my girls out next Monday for squirrels. -
Saturday morning in Tonto Basin was nice, although not as cool as Friday morning was. I got 15 and my son got 2. He said he kept giving me the money spots. Whatever that means?

Just FYI, I saw a Big Horn safe at Costco for 499. It weighs 440lbs and holds about 15 or 20 guns? Has electronic lock etc. Costco has a lot of safes on-line right now. I bought my Cannon safe from there about 7 years ago.

It was 44 degrees at my spot in Tonto Basin this morning. Got out of there before the snakes woke up.

I'm heading out tomorrow. I have the next 12 days off, not by choice. I'll be going out a few times I'm sure. My pups won't come with me until it's really cold.
-
Congrats on your cow. Looks like you had a nice camp too.
-
Very cool! I have been that way a few times the last couple years and have yet to see some. Our janitor at work was up there last week and saw them. May have been the same bunch as he said they were right before Boulder.

Eye dominance is a huge factor. I'm lucky I'm left handed and left eye dominant. I shoot a shotgun both eyes open. If I switch to the right side all I see is the side of the barrel. My daughter used to shoot her bow right handed and could not hit the broad side of a barn. We switched her to the left side and she started hitting the target every shot. If you get your kid shooting his bow on the dominant eye side it will not take him long for it to feel natural.

You should try to get the bow on his dominant eye side. All 3 of my kids are right handed but left eye dominant. They all shoot left handed.
