    JAVALINA DOWN!!

Had the oportunity to go to 36C to hunt for javalinas, my daughter Ana had a tag. We had a blast, and specially cause my wife Ana and our son Emmanuel got to see the whole action. We started hunting on saturday morning I left my brother Javier on a "his" spot and we moved about 300 yards from him. We climbed (sp) some huge boulders to have a good view of the flats. About sunrise I spoted a herd of javalinas walking towards my brother Javier. They stoped for a while but my daughter could not shoot becuase they were between us and Javier. I called my brother and told him the "javis" were walking his way. We lost them and could not see them anymore and then silence................5 minutes later my brother called me back and he told us to head back his way, that the javies were not moving and they were half way up the slope. We got of the boulders and head up towards my brother position, when we got there he showed us were the javalina were. Told my daughter to get ready and just to aim dead center just like the way she praticed. She put the javi on the crosshair and PUUMMM!! Javalina rolled down!! Javis running now in all directions and PUUM my brother Javier got his. My daughter was really excited!! I ask her how she felt and she just smile and said: "my legs are shaking! I congratuladed her for and awesome shot at a 116 yards, she gave me the high 5's and said wohoo one shot one kill!! On a side note, when I was field dressing the javalina, I was worry that my daughter and my kid Emmanuel will not like to see the blood and organs of the javalina but to my sorprise, they stood there next to me helping me out and they were identifying the organs of the pig really cool! Thanks to Javier for calling us and letting my daughter Ana take the first shot. Thanks guys, you all take care.............Ernesto C

  5. Hi there my fellow cwt hunters and guests of this awesome site. Here are some suggestions if you travel to Mexico in the next months for scouting/hunting or just for vacation time. 1- Dont travel alone, make the trip on a group if possible. 2- Travel during daylight hours. 3- Tell some one here in the U.S. where you going include ranch name, owners name, phone # and the general location where you are going (Nogales, Magdelana, Caborca etc) Also include informa- tions such as type of vehicle, color, model and license plate. 4- Tell them when you are planing to return. 5-Ask a friend from Mexico or the guide or ranch owner if they can meet you at the border and take you to the ranch. 6 If you must stop for gas, ice etc. try to do it on a big supermarket on a very busy street (lost of trafic) 7- The less you stop the better. If you make it to a checkpoint: 1- Cooperate immediately and fully. 2- Stay calm, comply with with demands. 3- If you have a child with you make it visible to them (roll down your window) or let them know you have kids in the vehicle. If you happen to be a victim of an ilegal act you may reported to the American Citizens Services (ACS) Unit at the U. S. Consulate located on Calle San Jose (S/N) Col Los Alamos, Nogales Sonora Mexico; telepone 011 52 631 311-8150; after hours emergency telephone 011 52 1 631 318-0723. You are more than welcome to add your suggestions to this list, also .....I dont know If I will do any good but I will try to help if necessary but if you want my phone # I can provided to you just send me an email. Thanks and God bless. Ernesto C

    22-250

222, 223 and 22-250 are excellent calibers for Javis. So is the 22 MAG. but you must keep shots 150 yards or under. Ernesto C

    Howling

REDFIELD11, Howling does work but you have to choose the right howling. I personally try to avoid the "challenge howl" in my opinion that scares more coyots that the ones that really come up to the call. I personally use the "howling" to locate coyots not to bring them in to the call; don't get me wrong, they do come to the howl but I just don't like to be howling for 10 to 15 minutes on the same spot. If you want to have more success harvesting coyots this is my sugestion: Go out at night drive your truck on areas you think coyots will be. Turn off your engine walk a few steps away from your truck and do a couple of barks and a long howl with your hand call (or electronic call). If a coyote answers your call you know where to be first thing in the morning. Drive and stop every 2 miles or so and keep doing this howls. Mark the spots where you get a respond to your howls cause that were the following morning you'll be doing your calls. During the monts of Late December and early February try the "female invitation" howl. I have succes year round with the "coyote greeting howl" Summer months you must try the "pup in distress call" coyots will come to the rescue of their pups. I really like the "coyote greeting howls" followed by the jack rabbit in distress call. REDFIELD, this is what has worked out for me and it is my personal opinion. We have great coyot callers here in the forum and I'm sure they will have some more suggestions. Good luck and aim for the vitals, take care. Ernesto C
