Hahaha that's a good one You and Sam were the only ones to accept to get excited and who wouldn' get excited? Every time we see the grey ghost is like time stops! your hart pumps faster, you get excited, anxious and the same time everything turn mistical....like if you were on another dimension, no sounds or at least you dont hear anything, the background and surroundings turn in majestick and mistically misterious like if you were in a dream? your spirit for a moment feels like is in touch with your great ancesters hunting with bow an arrow...predator and prey....stalking mode, getting closer..... Yes it is true and it has happened to the best of us......sometimes you just hope you flinch at the rigt time Ernesto C

You probably are 4 to 5 inches high at 100 yards and dead on at 300 yards or so. But if you being doing for years dont need to change anything. Ernesto C
  8. Using your rifle of choice how will you take this shot? Please let us know what rifle you are using, caliber, type of bullet, grains and what type of scope, scope power, etc. The more information you put it the better. Will you hold over? will you aim dead center? Where will you aim to compensate for the wind? Or maybe you dont feel you can take that shoot and decide to pass, what ever you do please tell us why. Here is the scenario: Range: 450 yards Wind: 25 mph from right to left. Here is your trophy....and he's already looking at you: Thanks ....Ernesto C

30-06 zero in at how many yards?? 3-4 inches your bullet will need to drop only 9 inches at 400 yards in order to hit the deer dead center on the lungs; otherwise you'll hit low. Ernesto C

How will you make this shot?

Very interesting posts from every one. I notice that on this scenario there is not one right answer but several right ones. Some choose not to shoot cause of the wind, some cause of the distance, some would try to get closer, some cause he's not big enough etc. All this decisions were honest an none of them a bad one. A conclusion after those decisions is that practice, practice and more practice will make us better shooters and the ability to know our guns and became one with it. Also optics play a very importat role. Amanda said that maybe with a Swaro scope she will take that shot. So the moral here is: BUY THE BEST SCOPE YOU CAN GET to improve accuracy and minimizing the chance for error. Bullet weight is VERY important on this scenario. We all know heavier bullets will have less wind drift but since we never know how windy is going to be....what will be the ideal bullet weight? I'm a little sorprised with 308Nut statement when he said the he would not take the shot with his 308 caliber. 308's if I'm correct shoot a 180 gr bullet wich is heavy (on my book). Not that the shoot cant be made...he just feels more comfortable with 240 grain bullet. I had this scenario several years ago with a coues buck in Sonora. 450 yards across the canyon with a 25mph wind. Great hunter Danny Howard asked me - Can you make it? I can make a 450 yard shot I said but I really dont know with this wind. I ended up getting closer to the buck (150 yard shot) and droped with a 270 cal. Thanks every one............Ernesto C
