I'm in the middle of a big job and wont be able to make the opener for archery deer this Friday, so, keep the updates coming. You'll get one.

Look for the yellow grass hillsides as far from roads as possible early in the am. Be very patient.

I've hunted 23 in Nov and Dec and there are still bulls in some of my regular areas that I would see in the rut (although not in large numbers) PM me and I can share what I know about 23.

I always use scent killer. I spray myself every few hours while sitting anywhere. I went to Illinois on an archery hunt and every hunter there swore by it. these hunters were from all over the midwest and the use of scent killer was one thing they all agreed on. When you're sitting somewhere you cannot control where a deer might approach from so it just might give you an edge. My two-cents.

I invested some money in Tierra Grande about 10 years ago. Didn't turn out very well. But, I get to chase whitetails in November, so all is well now.

Resident/Non-Resident status question for a hunt
bigbuckfever replied to DUG's topic in The Campfire
Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. I would just take my old AZ drivers license with me on the hunt to back up my story if I was stopped. -
I never met him , but feel sad that I wont be seeing his posts here anymore. RIP DelW

AZGFD has decided to spend ad dollars to entice out of staters to come and try to harvest animals in AZ. so AZGFD could bring in more revenue. It brought AZ more money , but at what cost? As an AZ resident and hunter, I can no longer go to my favorite unit to archery hunt in January. That sucks!! During a time when about 90% of the water holes I have frequented are bone dry and deer numbers appear to be down, they entice more people to come here to hunt ??? I've spent years finding secluded hot spots for deer and now I have to go somewhere else, but as long as AZGFD made more money ( I'm supposed to be ok with that?) Pretty frickin pissed.

Awesome footage, thanks for sharing. This is why I love trail cameras. You get to spy on nature without influencing it. Keep em coming.

Stop whatever you're doing and go buy a lottery ticket right now. Lol.

Things that make you go "are you kidding me?" There was about 25 shooters at Usery a few weeks ago Thursday night shooting 3-D when two deer showed up and started walking across the end of the range. Once they were spotted I looked down the line of shooters and all 25 of us were standing elbow to elbow with binoculars up watching the deer, trying our best to grow antlers on either of them. It was pretty cool. IMG_2569.MOV

Before you spend the money on a decoy you might want to try a napkin. I heard antelope are real curious and they will come into a waving napkin. I gave it a try one time and it worked to bring him closer. I spotted a herd buck with about 20 does headed into a choke point that I knew led to a big clearing that was just shy of some RR tracks. I knew I could circle around and come up to the side of where they were headed. I was able to sneak up to about 80 yards keeping some spall patches of scrub brush in between us. I knelt down and poked an arrow through a Taco Bell napkin and started waving it over top of the bush I was behind. They all noticed it and the buck started walking my way. There was another brush pile about 40 yards in front of me that I was hoping he would get to and if he went around it I might be able to get a shot. He made it to the bush and I was starting to draw when the lead doe took off running. he saw her and went after her while the rest of the herd stayed put. When he brought her back to the group i started waving the napkin again. He started coming my way again and when he just about got back to the bush that dang doe took off again. He turned to get her once more. This time I scurried over to the bush pile he ran from to cut the distance . He got her back to the group and once again started coming my way. Before i could draw that .itch took off again, this time the whole group went with her. He stood there looking at me then he looked at them leaving and decided to follow them, leaving me there broken hearted. I came so close but proved that the napkin worked. That dang matriarch saved his bacon that day. If they haven't seen this trick yet ,it might be worth a try.

Could be both have merit. ( Remember "it" was about ending slavery and a states rights issue, and 'it" was a desert topping and a floor wax.)
