    Credit hit

brother and I got hit. now hoping it is a December tag- regardless, will be chasing the Coues this year, so all is good
  4. like the others have posted, just make it street legal. Did this a couple years ago on my 2 quads- added rear LED brake light, mirror and horn to both, probably cost about $60 for both. Any cycle shop has the gear and can even show you how to hook it up. went to DMV and got it registered for the street. tell them it is mostly used for off road use. real cheap. between the yearly OHV tag and street sticker- about $30 a year per quad. Insurance for both is about $100 year. use stock tires, been stopped by G&F several times, never had a problem but watched them ticket others who aren't set-up like this. i carry proof of insurance, registration, just like my truck. I can drive to the Circle K for a big gulp if I really wanted to drive the thing on the street, but Tucson drivers are crazy- i'll stick to the backroads and 2 tracks.

    Glassing for Coues

+1 for what Firstcoueswas80 said. Deer are where you find them. Oct hunts are warm- shade is key, for both you and the deer. we glass til our eyeballs fall out, then glass some more. we may stay in the same spot from first light until noon and then maybe only move 100 yards or so. Important for us to stay out all day as the deer do get up to feed and will go to water- trail cam times and experience show that. A deer up and moving is always easier to pickup than one bedded. Best optics possible/tripod and pick apart the area you are glassing as many times, all you fisrt pickup on a deer is a tine, tail or leg when they are bedded.

  12. ScoutM- the guy in the tux with the pipe and Brat was named Sid- last name unknown. He had been a fixture around the Arivaca area for years. Strangest guy i ever met. He met his demise a few years back. Found dead sitting under a tree not far from his camp. I was at his camp a year after he died, must have been 100 bottles of cheap cologne laying around-either drinking or using it as a spit bath. pack rats had taken over his camper. Trufletch

    ahhh steaks

If the animal goes down any more than about 1/2-3/4 miles from access,my brother and I will usually butcher the deer on the spot. We carry gallon size freezer bags, take our time and put the cut meet in the bags. Roll up the hide and head-put on our pack frames and head to camp. Place meat in the ice chest on tops of blocks of ice or frozen water jugs. Now we don't have spoilage issues. We do backpacking trips from time to time as well, all I can say is it depends on outside air temp. We still butcher on the spot, keep the meat in the freezer bags in the shade, if it's real warm outside we hump it back to our main camp and get it into the ice chests. Trufletch

  19. Blocking the road or restricting access to public land-amazing what some people will do. You're nicer than me, I would be jetting that video and license plate off to the officials post-haste. A few years ago while archery hunting in the old 5Bnorth unit(many years ago in fact), I came across at least 8 ground blinds that had been set up at waterholes/seeps and wallows- all by the same guy. Each one had the same hand written note."I will be hunting here everyday during the archery elk hunt- find your own spot". Last time I checked, it's a little hard to sit multiple locations at the same time. I still sat some of them anyways-made my own blinds and never saw anyone at any of the locations. We as hunters need to be respective of other hunters . We all hunt on public land and it belongs to all of us.Try to work things out amicably but just because you have setup a blind, doesn't mean you own the wallow. keep a cool head and discuss it with the other hunter if posible- If they go into a profanity laced tirade- be the better person and move on. I'm a firm believer in karma and what comes around goes around. They will get theirs in the end. Happy hunting and luck to us all during the season- be safe trufletch
  20. Great Photos Ernesto- Thanks for sharing. I've got a 27 bull archery tag and can't wait to scout some more and hunt- this just gets my blood boiling a little more. Trufletch

    RESULTS ARE UP

UncleBuck- good luck on your hunt. I don't think anyone is going to tell you which tree they have that 120"-140" coues tied to. Those are well into the B&C books!!!. Find a good hill, use quality optics and patience and you should have a memorable hunt. If your fortunate enough to bag one of the bruisers, make sure you post some pics-we all like to look at the toads. trufletch

    Unit 33

The Rincon's are a nice are to be in. You need to be aware of the Saguaro National Monument bounderies. It covers a large tract of land from the West side of the Rincons, over the top and down the East side. It is well marked though. Just keep in mind that alot of hunters will be where there is easy access. My brother and I hunted the Eastside of the Rincons a few years back-lots of camps and hunters but we got a couple miles away from the crowds. I managed a decent high 80's buck and my brother shot one that grossed 108". Good Luck trufletch

    Unit 33

Because of the close proximity to Tucson, you will find lots of people and camps in the Reddington Pass area as well as Turkey Creek. There are scattered private lands as well. Good animals if you are willing to put a few miles between you and the rest of the crowds. Get some good Topo maps, pore over them and pick some likely spots that are away from the roads. During the rifle seasons, reddington pass will look like a thriving metroplis with about a million people on quads. You also need to realize that this is a hugely popular area for outdoor enthusiasts and you will see people on quads and motorcycles doing warp 8 on the road and trails, people on horseback runners and recreational hikers. Some of the camps are big enough in some parts of this unit to have their own zip codes. Like anyplace like this, the unit has pockets that aren't hunted hard. You just need to find the least travelled roads and hike in a few miles. Good Luck trufletch

    Unbelievable Dept. Mess UP!!!

The reasons for online apps are numerous-ease of use for the hunters, ease of processing(provided the company with the contract has their act together)to name a few. I like the online process. i don't have a bunch of money floating out there for 1-2 months and their is plenty of time to fix my screwups. I bet G&F loses money with the online process. They don't get a bunch of upfront money to deposit in the accounts and earn interest. Overall, I think it is user friendly and helps my wallet out. I don't apply if I can't afford to take the hit if all apps get drawn (which has never happened and never will). Bottom line, there are more hunters than hunting opportunities. That comes with a growing population. As i said in an earlier email- if you don't get drawn for your pet hunts, there are always some archery opportunities available. yes- there are a few people out there that put the whole family in for permits even though some of them don't hunt, but that's a very small number in the grand scheme of things. I too have a bunch of bonus points for antleope and Rocky Mountain Bighorn(already got my Desert Bighorn). One day my ship will come in. I think some things could be done different to increase the odds but yelling at people not to apply or thinking that the online process is killing it is just wrong. Maybe a waiting period after you get drawn for a premium hunt or a rifle bull/antleope tag would work. I would be willing to forgo a few years if it will increase my odds and everyone elses. To compare a hunt "Lottery" to the powerball is just asinine. This isn't even logical. Your comparing apples and oranges. Once gain- just my two cents. trufleth

    Unbelievable Dept. Mess UP!!!

One further note- my heart goes out to everyone whose draw got honked up by either G&F or the company they contracted with. It's only right that amends are made, even if they have to issue some extra tags, they did that with the USO fiasco. I think whatever company has the contract to conduct the draws should have to demonstrate the accuracy of their respective system and when they mess it up(which they will) pay restitution(fines) to not only the state but the individuals who got hosed. Hit their pockets and they may get it straight. We have to remember that if they go back to paper only applications, all those things have to be fat-fingered into a computer database. When you factor in human error, you will still have issues. Good luck to all whose apps were messed up and are fighting with G&F Trufletch
