This is a good deal!! I think I paid $400 for mine a couple years ago...without the extra barrel.

Leica 12x50 and Zeiss Diascope 65mm. I often leave the scope behind and carry a doubler to cut weight, except during scouting. Thinking of getting the Vortex 50mm so I am more apt to carry it. Not sure if it is worth it though.

Which factory ammo to extend range/accuracy of my .270?
Viper posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I know this has been discussed before but I'm having no luck searching. I have a Dec WT tag this year and want to maximize the potential of my factory Rem .270 xcr. I've used Rem core lockt, 130 gr for the past 5 years or so. I've killed 3 bucks at 140 to 300 yards, all one shot...dropped in their tracks. I want to extend my effective range to 500 yards. Although the economical core lockt has served me well, I realize I will need better performing ammo to achieve consistent accuracy at this range. I also realize most premium factory ammo will provide plenty of accuracy from a factory rifle. My main concern is terminal performance. In the brushy, steap coues country I hunt, it is imparative the deer drops in it's tracks. Cost is a slight concern, as I will shoot more if it doesn't break the bank. I can shoot the core lockts all day at $20 a box. I've done some research on the following choices: * Hornady 140 gr Interlock (I am leaning toward these...they are $25 a box and get great reviews on terminal performance). * Barnes Vor-tx TTSX (A lot of people like these) *Nosler Accubond * Nosler Partition I'm sure there are more so let me know. -
Dented Brass on Extraction

I get this with my AR15 too. Maybe something common with .223/5.56? -
I wish these packs had a lumbar option...or some laminated silicone on the lumbar area. I have trouble keeping it up on my skinny hips. Any plans to improve this feature?

Which factory ammo to extend range/accuracy of my .270?
Viper replied to Viper's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Shoot! They don't offer it in .270. They offer it in .308, .30-06, and larger. Good to know about the Nosler. That will save me some time and $. What do you know about the all copper bullets...on coues. I don't want something that's going to punch pencil holes through the animal. Considering slower velocities from the .270 beyond 300 yards. -

Which factory ammo to extend range/accuracy of my .270?

Thanks for all the input. It sounds like a bonded, lead-copper bullet is the way to go. I read some bad reports on ballistic tips, and I'm not sure how the all copper bullets would perform on coues. I see why a lot of guys reload. I just don't have the time for another hobbyright now. I always thought I would someday, so I've saved most of the brass from shooting over the past 35 years...maybe when I retire. -
Curious, how much this setup weighs?

HOLY SMOKES!!!! What a toad! Great taxi job!

Congrats!! We drew the oct tag again! We're free in Dec if you need any help. I'll be up there looking around...you guys hunting up high again? Let me know about "the one that got away".

My buddy and I drew Dec WT in 22!! We have hunted the 22 Oct hunt for the past several years. It's a good hunt, if you can get away from all the other 400 hunters. Decided to give the late hunt a shot...and drew it! I do a lot of scouting up there each year...love that unit!

My buddy and I got December WT in 22 with just loyalty points!

I've tried a lot of chairs and keep going back to a pad, unless I'm near the truck/quad. I will check out the options mentioned above...always looking. The key to sitting on the ground/pad that's easier on your back, is keep your legs lower than your butt. Like on a downhill slope, on a rock or log, etc... makes a big difference.

I just bought a QAD Ultra HDX rest to replace my Whisker Biscuit. Mounting and initial setup are done. My concern is that it appears the fletching may hit the top bar, maybe barely clear it. I shoot 2" Blazers on Gold Tip Hunter XT shafts. I am putting the rest on a Matthews Drenalin. Two flippers came with the rest package, one is on the rest and one is a "spare" that is a little wider between the prongs. Do you know of any issues with this setup? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I wear the Carhart double front pants for rifle coues. I can bust through any brush in those. I plan to use the Kuiu for archery.I have both the Kenai and Super Down. They serve two different purposes and they are light enough to pack both. Of course the Super Down compresses more, but the Kenei compresses well too. Both are very light weight. As mentioned above, the Kenei is very breathable and quiet...and has pit-zips to let the heat out. This is best suited for active hunting. The Super Down is not breathable and noisy, but blocks wind well. This is best suited for sitting/glassing. It will be quieter if you layer a soft shell (Kenei) over the top. I have both in large if anyone wants to check it out before you buy. I live in Mesa and work in west Chandler.

I recently received the Attack pants and Peloton 240 full zip. Seems like really good stuff, and quite comfortable. I got the 34 pants, which fit very well on my 34 - 35" waist. Haven't had a chance to try them out yet. I think the hip vents are going to help wth venting heat. Only wish the pockets were a little bigger. PAC8541, have you worn your Kuiu pants in coues country brush? Wondering how they hold up in heavy brush, catclaw and such.

Thanks for the replies. I got it paper tuned and real close at 20 yards last night. Now I need to tweek it in for longer distance at the range. It was pretty easy to tune. I already notice a difference...seems more forgiving than the Whisker Biscuit. I'm probably going to regret not doing this a long time ago. Is it necessary to have the knock point 1/8" - 1/4" above square? Mine is only 1/16" above square.

As mentioned above, drive the Rim road and side roads. They will be in the open and burn areas, usually hillsides. The peak season seems to be end of July through August, depending on rain.

Big score on the raspberries this weekend.
