Crazy coues! No wonder I can't find their sheds!

I prefer merino wool for base layers and mid-weight layer. I have several pieces from various manufactures...basically whatever I can find on sale or on camofire. I have 190 base layers from core 4 element, a mid-weight merino hoodie from First Lite, I think it's the Chama. Not sure what the fabric weight is. I really love it. The wool quality is softer than the C4E. I wear it over the base layer when it's cold. I think it works better over a wider temp range than synthetic, breaths well, and won't absorb BO. Then I wear the appropriate jacket over that. I can layer a fleece jacket over that or I have a couple Russell APXG2 jackets of different weights, depending on how cold it is. These hold up pretty well in catclaw. I recently got the Kuiu Kenai and the Super Down for colder options. The Kenai with a rain jacket worked great Saturday when it was cold and rainy all day. You will need an outer layer that will hold up to catclaw to protect the expensive Kuiu stuff.

I too will be testing it late Dec and Jan. I'm kind of hoping for cold weather 😆 Saturday I put the Kenai to the test in 45* and rain. I wore it under my rain jacket...toasty warm all day. -

I just received the Superdown hooded and the Kenai jackets. I like the fit of both, and they seem to be toasty warm. I may be a little disipointed with the Superdown. It seems quite noisy, and the colors are darker than the Kenai (vias pattern). How do you all use the Superdown in hunting situations....stalking, glassing only. Is it quiet enough under an outer shell? I assume the noisy outer fabric is due to being "down-proof". Now the Kenai seems pretty quiet and warm. -
HOLY...WOW!! That is a gnarly toad! Great job to all. Great story. Have the taxidermist cap the horns when you drop it off, so you can take them home with you. No way I would leave them there. You can deliver them when he is ready to do your mount...which will be several months, usually.

Christmas sale...$310 - $320 depending on leg length. Prices are under the "shop" tab.

What size are the tires? Would you sell tires/wheels only?.....don't need the wheels, but I assume you are selling as a set. Where are you located?

Thanks for checking. That gives peace of mind that I didn't get a dud. I rolled it up into the hood and weighed it on my kitchen scale. The published weight is 10 oz. Mine weighs 10 3/4 oz. So it meets spec. -

Thanks for more input. I definitely understand the layering system. I recieved it Wednesday before Thanksgiving and has been laying out since. It is as fluffed up as it will get. I am just a little bugged that I see light through it at random spots. It seems it should have more fill. I've heard that some manufacturers have product built cheaper with less quality parts just for the big sales, like black Friday. ...makes me wonder. -
I think that hunt will require some packing in for a decent buck.

So...I'm still not sure what to think of the Superdown jacket. I put it on over a typical cotton shirt and walked to the mailbox...about 50 degrees outside. It didn't seem as toasty as I thought it should. If I spread it open and hold it up to the light, I can see several random spots of light. It seems these would be cold spots. Does anyone else notice this? It seems like Kuiu skimps a bit on the down, not completely filling each chamber of the garment. Maybe it's a non-issue. If you have a Superdown garment, could you please check to see if you notice light spots showing through?....for comparison. Thanks -
HOLY .....!! Very nice!

Very cool! Are they Rocky Mnt BH sheep? Must be in the rut, eh?

There's a good article in the latest Elk Hunter magazine that covers a lot of the principles mentioned above..."Shoot Better Right Now".

It is very very helpful to have a good spotter that can tell if it was hit and where the animal went. Stay locked on and guide the shooter to the spot.

Got mine Wednesday

I got my new Kuiu Kenai and Super down this morning. Can't wait to get home and check it out. I have some of the Russell APXG2 stuff and been using it for 4 or 5 years. It is good stuff for the money. The tight weave polyester holds up real well to catclaw.

You will invent new curse words....and phrases

Don't listen to them. There's no deer in 22...too many lions. You should hunt down south.

"What do you look for when purchasing your first pack?" More money...to buy more packs. Your first pack is just the beginning. You will soon have a few packs and still looking for that perfect one. :-) There is a Kuiu two pack set for sale in classifieds. That would be a good choice.

Got my order in for two jackets. Kenai jacket and super down hooded jacket. Packs are bag only I'm hoping I ordered the right size: 6' 170lbs 40" chest. I heard they are sized on the small side.

4x4 low range. If you have experience riding quads it is no problem. Just be sure the truck is level side to side. My ramps are 12' long, so it lessens the angle. Had a couple "pucker" moments when the ramps were wet and muddy tires. No accidents yet.

I have one similar to that. Mine was made by an expert welder I know. No bolt together joints...all welds...heavy duty. Very similar design. It ties down to the bed tie-downs with turnbuckles. I have had no problem with stability or breakage. I load two large 500 quads on it, which are 7' long and 700lbs dry. Has stow-away heavy duty ramps too. Not sure how the bolt together types hold up. I haven't used it in a couple of years, since I sold my tent trailer and should probably sell it. I would want around $800...give or take. Not sure what kind of deal you're getting on the bulldog.
