    iPad for checking trail cameras.

I tried it last night, and it worked. I can see I will have to be careful in the field.... * remove SD adapter/micro-SD from trail cam * remove micro-SD from adapter * remove back cover, battery pack, and micro-SD from Droid * install trail cam micro-SD, then battery pack into Droid * turn on Droid and view pics I have the Droid X and my buddy has the Droid II....they both have the micro-SD card next to the battery pack, which requires removing the battery pack to remove the card. Not sure about the newer Droids or the iphones.

    iPad for checking trail cameras.

I just read this on a forum: "There is a micro SD card slot on your phone. I use a micro SD card with an adapter for my camera and frequently take pics with the camera and take out the card and pull out the micro SD card from the adapter and put it into my phone to view/upload pics. An 8 gig card with an adapter was $20." I will try this with my Droid. It will be great if it works!

    iPad for checking trail cameras.

I haven't had an issue viewing pics on my buddy's pocket camera, but I reformat the card when it's back in the trail cam. They sell card viewers for around $70+, but I get mixed reviews as far as reliability. The ipad is a good solution but mighty expensive to be packing into the desert. I will have to keep an eye open for a cheap, used digital camera that takes full size SD cards. Viewing pics on my Droid would be ideal, as I have it with me anyway.

I am trying to find a way to view the SD card on my Droid. The folks at the Verizon store say there is no way....but I haven't given up yet. I ordered the card adapter for the ipad....but I will have to do some smooth talkin' to get it from my wife for a day.

    Kelty Cache Hauler

I have one. It's a great pack-frame. Very comfortable. I have used it several times over the last 5 years. Usually it stays on the quad, in the truck, or in camp until meat is on the ground. I have used it to "go deep". I strap in a small day pack/fanny pack with the necessities, then when I get to my hunt area, I stash the Kelty and hunt with the day pack. If the day pack is small enough, you can haul out pack/meat in one trip....if it's a deer....or one elk quarter. The "wings" and compression strap setup is real nice for containing the load. It has a rain fly tucked in a bottom pocket. It's a great pack for the price. Here it is in action:

Any CC hits yet for the draw??

Nope....my bad. Sorry for the false alarm. My card was hit for $84, but I forgot that one of the guys had to buy a license too. Four of us at $7.50 each = $30 + $54 (license) = $84 The good news is, I still have a shot at a sheep tag (CC was hit for $7.50).

My CC was hit yesterday. Got deer but not sheep. Just have to wait for the results to find out which choice I got.

Oh wow, I didn't notice the link. This stove kit is way better than the one that I have. This is the cylinder type...much more air-tight than mine. I've seen this type at Sportsman's for $300 and up, depending on size.

I haven't had mine in heavy snow. Only with snow on the ground. Used it on a Nov elk hunt....12 degrees at night...with the wood stove going, it was 75 degrees inside. The roof is pretty steep pitch, so I don't think snow would accumulate much, especially with the stove going. It held up just fine in hail storms/heavy rain...no damage. When I bought mine, they offered a stove package deal for an extra $50. It is not a premium model, but works very well. Not sure what stove package comes with this one. I also have the vestibule (pictured). It is great...adds a lot of extra room for gear, cooking, porta-potty, etc... If you like multi-day tent camping, this is the way to go. Much lighter weight than canvas and no worries about mildew.

Wow!! Great price! That's what I paid for my 12x12 Alaknak with accessaries, back in 2005. You could live for months in this thing. They are absolutely extreme weather proof.

    Trophy's Steakhouse

My wife and I went for the first time a few weeks ago. Real nice! Good food, great trophy display, and great beer list! I understand these are all trophy's the owner took in his quest for the North American super-slam. It's nice to find an establishment like this in this big city. Nice venue for a CWT gathering/happy hour...eh?

    Sunflower Fire...how it started

Thats awesome that you caught them. I hope you got/get a reward Don't want a reward. The whole thing is ugly. I just look forward to the monsoon to squelch this fire so the area "may" open up again. I am anxious to check my camera, or what's left of it, and get back to scouting. It makes me sick to read some of the idiotic comments posted at the bottom of the online news articles. Emotion and lack of intelligence from people obviously not from AZ, Libs, heck.....even racist comments.....huh? Being a father of two sons in their mid-20's, I have mixed feelings about the young man that was arrested. Yup, I'm pissed that my favorite coues area burned up. Yup, it was REALLY stupid what he did. On one hand, he broke the law, and there are penalties. On the other hand, I guess I have some sympathy.....he may be a good kid, just got a little crazy (been there done that). I pray he can get past this, all these boys learn a lesson, and he can move on.

    Sunflower Fire...how it started

What I read was "Shiflet faces three charges, each of which carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison and a $5000 fine, if convicted. I too got away with a lot at that age, which could have been a disaster. But I also learned some hard lessons and had to pay the price. This is one of those hard lessons. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, or killed. No homes lost. I feel for the rancher though. He's a good man. He had a lot of cattle in there. Hopefully he didn't loose too many.
  15. This bino harness posted last night. I've seen this at Sportsman's and looks like a good product. I would consider this one. You can leave your binos deployed, hooked up on the safty tethers, or wrap them in the cover for protection. Either way, they ride against your chest. The one issue I have with the Badlands pouch is when I leave my binos deployed, hanging on the tethers, it rides on the pouch, way out in front of my chest. Kind of in the way when stalking. Leaving them in the pouch when you need one hand operation doesn't work well. Minor issue, but something to consider. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=33634

    Sunflower Fire...how it started

We saw them from a vantage point, at the scene when it first started. We waited for them to drive out and stopped them to find out what was going on. While I talked to the driver, my buddy got the plate number. They didn't stick around. We waited for the USFS to show up and gave them the info.
  17. That's good info...thanks!! Anyone have experience with the Nikon Rifle Hunter 1000? Similar results?

    Sunflower Fire...how it started

These are the guys me and my buddy stopped that morning and got there plate number. Glad to see the investigation ended with an arrest. I'm sure he'd prefer a kick in the nuts instead of what's ahead. Probably hasn't had much sleep since that morning.

    Which Range Finder?

+1 I just got the Vortex Ranger, and love it. A range finder without Angle Compensation is a thing of the past, true horizontal shooting distance is what your after in the field. Whatever you buy, go angle compensated. Any chance that you could post a review of the Vortex. Not much online yet. I got my hands on it Sunday at Sportsman's....they finally got a few in. The read-out is really bright and the size is compact. I am interested in whether you can range a deer at 600 yrds, hand held. And if it will range a black object, my Leupold won't.
  21. I have the Range Snap too. It's great! I have my range finder in it's pouch, attached to my pack, until I get into hunt mode. Then I snap it to the Range Snap, which is attached to my Badlands Bino pouch. The pack may be left behind on a stalk, but the bino pouch is always on me, so I don't forget the range finder. The Badlands Bino pouch is great!! It is rain proof and dust proof.....but not affardable now. They were running $60, but now are $130!!! The optics guy at Sportsman's told me that the China manufacturer is screwing Badlands over the magnetic closure so the price doubled.
  22. Anything more on your review? I got my hands on one yesterday at Sportsman's. Very nice, compact. Very bright display. I am eager to dump my Leupold RXII. It is inconsistent at what it will range, sometimes has trouble if it is windy. Will not range a black target. I am interested to know if the Vortex can range a deer at 600 yards, hand-held, and will it range a black object. Thanks, Brad
