Those are all great deer! If the picture set up makes them look bigger, then more power to them. Every one of those deer is a trophy in the hunters own book, that's all that matters. For those who feel the camera angle and hunters position make the deer look bigger than they are, don't look at the person. When field judging a deer on the hoof, you don't have the luxury of comparing it to the size of a person. You have to rely on the relationship of the horns to the length of the ears, width of the nose or size of the eye. For myself, if I can make a 90 inch coues look like a 100 inch buck, I am going to do it. What the heck, it looked bigger to me when I decided to shoot. I am always glad to let the camera erase some ground shrinkage.

Sounds like a great trip. A stringer full of fish is just a bonus.

Very nice.

There are no deer left in 30B. Save yourself time and frustration and just stay home. Just kidding There are plenty of deer in 30B. A surprisingly small amount of the 42% come from private land, because very few are willing to put in the effect to hunt those areas. Coues can be found from the main roads driving and glassing with the crowds. There are also many many places to escape the crowds. Some require a hike, but others can be driven very close to. As for the Mules, much of the locked up land is opted as foot access. Strap on a pack and you will find deer. Do not get hung up on finding deer in some of the "perfect" coues country. Many locals have taken nice bucks in the middle of the afternoon amongst all the camps. Many people draw these leftover tags, drive down from Phoenix or Tucson and set up camps that resemble small towns. Then they get in their trucks and drive to the sweet spots that look like the coues country you see in videos. All the while, nice coues bucks continue their stealthy life style in the lightly hunted areas of the camps. Coues can be found in any part of 30B. Many areas that were always muley areas all hold coues now. A 30B leftover tag was my first choice again this year.

Over the past few weeks Stacy Tompkinson finished three of our mounts from last year. As always, his work is excellent. My wife says the living room is full and we are going to have to figure something else out...we think it looks pretty good. Laurie's November buck My November buck Garrett's January buck. We are pretty hung up on coues, but he found this one in late December while calling coyotes and decided to go after him.

Maybe throw in some Indian stuff, arrowheads and such?

Take care of that plantar faciitis. I have spent the last 10 months dealing with mine, and it got to the point where I could hardly walk after a day at work. Lot's of pain. Cortizone shots, and specially made supports helped. I got laid off awhile back, and spent a lot of time keeping off my foot. It did a world of good for healing. I am really wondering how this falls hunt will be on my foot. I had this for about a year. I think the most helpful thing was the sleeping boot and lots of regular stretching. I would stretch every 15-30 all day long.

Was just talking to a friend. He told me that Bupees are real popular among prisoners.

This time of year a boat makes a big difference. Just keep your eyes on the sky, those storms roll up quickly.
-
I had never heard of Bupees so I watched the video. Holy crap...I did two and it wore me out...had to sit in my recliner with a beer to recuperate.

Looks like the bear ate a hunter and pooped him out, hat and all.

That looks like a great day. I hope to tube the Salt someday.

Here is one of our labs, Winchester. She is very attached to Chrystie. Chrystie has been painting the house this summer and Winchester has to be right with her all the time. Now we just call her spot.

This is a tough choice and one that I have mulled over many times over the past few years. On one hand it is not real sporting to shoot deer out of the front yard. They are very routine and become accustomed to humans. We enjoy seeing these animals and thus far, have decided not to shoot any out of the yard. With this said, we have taken a couple smaller ones in the canyons and draws near us. On the other hand, we have passed some monsters in the yard only to see others take them from their front porch. Many people from out of town show up in January to cruise the streets and shoot deer we have decided not to hunt. On the third hand, we have seen several huge bucks...trophies in anyone's book, get splattered all over the road by neighborhood traffic. Many times we have chased these deer out of town, only to have them loop around and come right back into town. Bottom line is if you are in an area where it is legal to hunt with a bow, it comes down to what you feel good about. If you are good with it, and it is legal, then who cares what others feel.

Last year we called the G&F office and asked about the process. They said they will accept them at either address, but the Carefree Road address, which is listed on the "leftover tags" list, goes directly to the office where they are processed, while the PO box needs to be checked then driven out to the Carefree office. This can put an additional day into the process, thus putting your ap lower in the pile.
-
Don't forget to mail the ap to the Carefree Road address. If you send it to the address on the application envelope, it will take extra time for them to get it to the Carefree office. This puts your ap at the bottom of he pile.

Looks like that first bull might have a grub in his nostril.

TJ, I hope it is a great one! I will celebrate in your honor tonight.
