  7. I have always wondered how fast can a deer actually be, I know they are fast but just how fast??? This past archery season I learned they are extremely FAST!!! It has put archery hunting at a whole new perspective in my eyes and has me waiting for the next hunt. Knowing what I understand so much more now it makes me feel more of a prepared hunter. Before you watch this video know that I followed this buck for two days in the snow and finally backed off him when he was chasing does, I hit this buck in no mans land. If you watch the video you will see the point when the arrow is released to when it comes in view on the bucks body, watch how much he drops compared to the flight of the arrow. If he would not have dropped I would have smoked this buck, but when he dropped my arrow made a clean pass through above the vitals. This buck bled for about at least a mile, 1 day later he quit bleeding and proceeded to rut and chase does. He acted hurt for just a short distance, right after i shot we gave him an hour before starting to trail, we glassed him up bedded and watched him till he got up and started to walk off. In the process of trailing him he jumped five fences and crossed numerous canyons and went up several hills. Before watching the video I assured myself this buck was mine, 2 days later as we found his tracks with does and no more blood for couple miles we decided he would be fine. I have thought to myself maybe i need a faster bow? or mechanical broad heads? or something i might have done. Let me set this up so you can see the video I shoot a 08 hoyt katera, carbon arrows with g5 broad heads and shooting 65 pounds. This buck is laying down at 27 yards and has no clue that Im even there. He has one doe with him (the reason he gets up is she is feeding away from me) When this buck stands I wait for my chance to draw, he starts to eat the oak brush and I draw my bow, from the second I pull the trigger he starts too drop. We did the math and with a guess on what feet per second my bow shoots and dont quote me on this but we came up with this buck had 3 tenths of a second to react before my arrow hit him. I think its unreal the amount this buck drops to the time my arrow hits him, I know they are quick but this is pretty quick. Never at any time this buck knew I was stalking him, I have the whole thing on film, its pretty interesting if you ask me. I did follow this buck and gave all I had following him in the snow and we all came to the decision based on the hit and the evidence that this buck would survive.. let me know your thoughts! thx

    part one javelina 2011 video

Well it took us awhile to learn all the ways of putting video on the net, and we still have more to learn. First off this video is muted for copy write issues with the music we had on it so you tube turned the audio off. Second remember this is our first video so the video is not great its part 1 of 2 and it was our first time out with our new camera. We have been learning alot lately about it and this hunt showed us that it get complicated. This video shows Brittany up first then me second and then sometime soon we will put the rest of it up. Please comment or give your thoughts on how we can better the videos. We have a good idea but everyone views them differently, These were filmed with no tripod or stabilizer. Thanks for watching and any help or ideas you got! Enjoy

    Britt has done it again!!

Brittany has done it again to me, she is stacking the tags up and knocking them down one at a time! she decided after her elk hunt to try archery hunting so i got her hooked up with a diamond razor edge bow and the practice began for her. tell ya the truth she took to archery pretty dang well!!!! with an archery pig tag in her pocket between me and my dad we decided she was up to bat first! opening day we sat in the truck trying not to freeze, but on the second day it was on. britt filmed me sneaking on a muley buck that i shot and after watching the footage my respect for muleys has greatly improved. this buck was bedded with one doe in the snow. i crept to 30 yards of him without being detected, after 30 minutes he raised up from his bed and began to feed on a bush he was laying next to. he never even glanced my way, i took a shot at 30 yarrds with my 08 hoyt katera and that buck (in slow motion on the video) jumps my string 8 inches!!! i hit no mans land but did not give up till i found him chasing does! crazy! anyways while trailing the buck i spotted the herd of pigs we been looking for and got to film britt harvesting her first pig with a bow. at ten yards shee shot her pig and he went about five more yards turned around and she stuck him again right through the heart!! now that we are getting into filming hunts its amazing to get times like this on film, next on her list is a tom for she drew her first spring turkey tag this year! wish her luck. the next weekend me and a boddy from work ended up wacking a couple more pigs pulling a double by nine in the am, and i know mine is a lil one so dont make fun of me but at the time before i shot they were all grouped up and there were little red ones running around so i figured this one was too small to have lil ones so i took it. ended up being a young boar. pops never did harvest, fighting being sick he missed some days but still got some action. next on our list is tenneessee spring turkey hunt in april!!! enjoy!

pops n I score on our late hunt

Well, we did it! It was a long and TOUGH hunt, there were so many hunters and not enough elk to go around. This was the fifth bull hunt in this particular unit and it sure showed out there. The elk were not in their usual spots, I had this tag last year and five of us killed bulls in four days, we had scouted and had them located and the fun began. This year with the scouting and hair pulling we had a heck of a time finding bulls. By day 4 we had only seen 5 bulls, nothing worth shooting for us. Me, Brittany, and my dad hiked our butts off trying to locate where they were. We barely heard any shooting and were not seeing any dead bulls coming from other camps. Monday afternoon found us driving to new locations trying to get away from all the dang hunters, there was some fresh snow on the ground and the elk tracks showed they were being pushed all over. So we headed for some counrty that they should pull to with the pressure and started our hike. As I neared the edge of the draw I could see a elk laying down below us 250 yards, it was a bull. A quick glance and I could see he was a small 4x4 but as I scanned I found four other bulls laying down. After trying to get my father into postion the wind swirled and they caught our wind, they got up and started to move out and up the canyon. I laid my pack down and got rested as we talked to each other trying to get a shot at the 6 by. I was trying to let him shoot first but he couldn't find a rest he liked, so i said im going to have a shot. The bulls were in a line quartring away from us and the bigger bull was second in line. My father said take a shot if you get one and i did not hesitate. As the 5x5 walked through i invisioned my shot and when the sis hit the window at 330 yards I let one fly. I tried to lead him thinking with the yardage and with him walking I needed to. Well my bullet hit right were I was aiming and dropped him. I was looking for was a nice 6x6 unbroken bull this year, last year my bull was busted up a little bit. He was a perfect end for this great year of hunting for us. I was perfectly happy with this bull and my dad not being able to get a shot ended up being good thing for him. We hunted the next couple days turning up small bulls and that was it. My dad was not going to just kill an elk he wanted a good bull and was not worried about going home empty handed. On the second to last day we found some bulls in the back of a small draw up in the flats, (this is why they were not were they should of been) we started glassing and quickly turned up six bulls, three four points, a 5x5 and 2 6x6s. The one bull we knew was a shooter no doubt, he had good fronts, thirds and beams. my dad said he wanted to take this bull so we were off to get closer. We got to about 360 yards and we could not go any further, so i set my tripod up and my dad took aim. He was a little excited being this was the biggest bull so far we had found. He took two shots at the bull and as far as we could tell they were misses. Daylight was fading fast so we took off to get on the tracks and look for blood. I grabbed my tripod and the three of us made our way to the ridge. I took off up to the top wanting to catch them and found my self 100 yards from horn tips in the grass moving along slowly. I quickly set my tripod up in a standing position and my father took rest. The bulls had grouped backed together and were working their way broadside to us at 100 yards!!! After some quick confusion on where the bigger bull was he stepped out, we confirmed quickly that that was him and my dad hammered him. We cant deny but some tears fell when we walked up on this bull, we had worked really hard and hunted all day every day for this one moment. Its been five years since me and him shared an archery hunt and killed two bulls and to be able to get rifle tags and have it turn out the way we wanted was way too perfect to close the year out. We ended up going 100% on 9 hunts between me my dad and brittany, and for the three of us to sit there as the sun set and look at his bull was something we will never forget. His bull ended up scoring 330 with a couple inches broke off his one third, Hope you all enjoy! THX gotta love the bandlands!!

    2010 britts first bull!!

well with brittanies 2010 year basically winding down, all the hard work and PATIENTS paid off very well for her. this year she has harvested her first pig, buck, and yesterday put the smack down on her 1st elk!! we have been hunting very hard on this elk hunt, she wanted yet again a quality animal and was willing to turn down bulls to get what she wanted. the only thing was this was the first ELK she had saw on her hunt. we hunted four days opening weekend and all we turned up were deer and millions of hunters. no shooting going on, heard of one bull taken opening morning. with only certain days to hunt she was pressed for time but not as bad as other hunts, this one was a month and half long. and an any elk tag at that, so we were locked in for the haul looking for a good bull. well 8 days later and thousands of miles on my truck and countless hours glassing, britt was ready to throw the towel in. she was exhausted and depressed why her hunt was being so difficult. we were having hard tiimes just finding tracks, we were mainly hunting areas that a bull could push to from the hunting pressure. we knew areas that held the elk we just hate competing for spots, so we hike and get high and glass looking for that one hole them bulls will push to, yesterday we found it! as we were contemplating going home and taking the afternoon off, we drove up a lil road that ended but had a great bowl and ridge line working up to some cedar, pine covered hills. i convinced her to take one more hike but planned on getting a top the mountain and waiting till dark to glass. mile and a half later i glassed up an elks hind end as he moved from his morning bed to his after noon bed. we worked across the canyon and found our selves 300 yards above the bedded bull. we got to 230 yards and that was the closest we could get. britt was shooting off my tripod and felt comfortable with the shot so she took it. it was a lil low to what we wanted and the bull went about 50 yards and bedded. we gave him an hour and sneaked down there to check it out, we end up bustin the bull and brit takes a shot at 300 yards and takes one lung out, the beds again and we sneak to 30 yards above him and she sealed the deal. we were exstatic for all the work and stress we had gone through to have it work out in our favor! its been an incredible year for her and for me to be there every second it has been awesome!!! we packed the bull out and got home at two am and woke up in aw that we had harvested a bull! i hope you guys enjoy! 2 weeks and its my turn behind the rifle at some bulls!! see ya

    2010 britts first bull!!

Yes in Arizona, the multi unit hunt. Nov.5-Dec.9
  16. well we drew again the same tags we have had for the past three years, the first year we went we had five tags and all tagged out, last year we killed one buck outta five (106 inch) and this year we killed 2 outta five. me and my father had the whole hunt off so we were ready just to relax and have fun but get some meat. we were going to look for good bucks first but were not going to go home empty handed. my dad was first up, i really wanted him to get a nice buck, but the first day proved to be nothing but hunters every where. the game and fish have almost ruined the quality of some hunts with the amount of permits they out out. i cant prove it but i think with our gps radios we had people following us after my buddy spotted some bucks and the hunt was on until the mountain side that had no one on it unloaded with a hail of gun fire on two of the bucks. right over our heads. anyways me and my father took the high hike up at four in the morning to get awaway from every one and right at first light i spotted his buck. he was bedded at 300 yards and my dad made a great shot and kept the buck bedded for easy retrieval. its his biggest white tail to date so he was happy. thats why he put the burnt charcoal from the tree he shot off on his face, he said he had his game face on after he shot the buck:laugh4: the next morning we made the hike again and i spotted a nice buck with a couple spikes and i couldnt resist. i said before the hunt all i wanted was a unique stalk and a hard stalk on a nice buck and i would take him. well two hours of stalking i found myself above the buck at fifty yards the only problem is we had lost him in the stalk and the slippery thing got away without being seen. three hours later we found him bedded and put another great stalk on. we did the cliff hanger on the a huge bluff 90 yards above him. when he rose up from his bed i made the shot and it was over. i shot him with a hornady sst bullet and the blood trail in the 25 yards he went was incredible. it was a short but great hunt. aint nothing better then getting outta town with your dad and having a successful hunt that started off bad. we both have bull tags at the same time in november and we cant wait to do it all again. thx and enjoy

    Britts 1st muley!

My girlfriend Brittany drew a good bull tag and a muley tag this year, and had her jacked all year long as she prepared. We bought her a remington 308 and set it up with a vortex 3.5-10 x 50 scope, with bipod. She practiced all summer long shooting and waiting for the fun to start. The time could not come fast enough for her! As we prepared for what we thought would be an interesting hunt, we had confusion thinking her deer hunt and elk hunt started on the same day. I dont know how we did this but we did, three weeks before her elk hunt, and one week before i headed south for my whitetail hunt we found out we had messed up. Her deer hunt started the same day as my whitetail but went for one week longer then my whitetail. Now the pressure was on. So I took off for my whitetail hunt with my father and was preparing to be gone for the whole hunt. Then I would come back on the last day to get Brit and take her out for the last four days of her deer hunt. Well we got our whitetails on saturday and mine on sunday, post that story on another section later today. so with two days before she could get off work me and my father hit the woods in a higher elevation and a different species in mind. We located an area on Tuesday that seem to hold alot of deer, more then we were used to for muleys. As the sun dropped we glassed a big ol bear feeding on some pears, now with the new distraction (bear season is still open in this area) we couldnt make our mind up on to have her chase the bear or chase deer, not a bad problem to have! Wednesday we took to sleep in and prepare for her first day of her hunt. Opening day turned up no bear, but we saw fifteen bucks with the bigger ones out of our range with not enough time to reach them. For her first deer tag she wanted a nice buck and didnt mind holding out. She had an opportunity at a 3x3 but elected to pass and felt she ws not comfortable with that shot, so we let the buck move on. Late Thursday evening I spotted two really nice bucks on a flat below us, but like all the other big ones they were outta reach and we were outta time. With the first day over her confidence was down, she thought she had made a mistake passing that deer and was worried it would haunt her. Day two Brittany, my father, my cousin, and my self all made the long long drive into our area. My father went to his knob to glass as the rest of us headed down a ridge to get above the bucks from the evening before. We walked into the area in the dark, and set up and awaited the sun to come up. Thirty minutes into glassing a look back across to see if i could come up with the big bear and not more then 100 yards from where he was I glass horns! I get everyones attention and out steps a great looking 3x4, still trying to finish the velvet off his antlers. We make a quick game plan, and we are off! Me and Brittany take about and hour and half to get across and up the canyon the buck is now laying. My heart knew we were getting close because it started pounding harder and harder as we neared the rock we would try and shoot from. We get out on the rock and all we can see is brush below us but we now the buck is close. Now here we are sitting trying to figure our next move, do we throw a rock and get him to stand or do we wait him out. I sat behind Britt patiently glassing for any sign of an ear or antler tip, nothing! As I wanted her to get the best opportunity at this buck the stress levels began to rise fast. Twenty long minutes later we are sitting there and im going over scenarios with her incase he is to run or do something un expected. As we are talking i look down and there he stands, 100 yards and is looking up hill with just his neck and head showing. I point the buck out and Britt gets on him instantly and says are you ready! I tell her YES!! and to hold on his neck and squeeze, BOOM! That buck never stepped or moved, she put him straight back in his bed and we almost jumped off the rock cliff in excitment!! The out come exceeded what she wanted, she wanted to get her first deer but wanted to make it a fun hunt with a good buck. She got everything she asked for and for all of us to be there and enjoy her first buck was an awesome experience that we wont forget. To make the hunt a little more interesting and almost alot harder, after the shot and about thirty minutes passing. We get done to the buck and start enjoying what just happened when I look down the canyon only to see that big bear moving down the canyon fairly fast. I grab Britts rifle and take a rest, he was at four hundred yards but with me trying to stop him he would never stop to give a shot. So we let him go another day but we will be out soon looking for him. This hunt turned out to be a great success and to make it better her bull hunt starts this friday and we will be back at it in the woods for her first elk, bull elk!! Enjoy! Brittany Britt and me My father, Britt and my cousin Hopefully her elk hunt will be next! wish her luck

another shed trip, cold and windy

well we headed out sunday morning looking for some more sheds. me britney my dad and my dog mailey all jumoed in the ranger and bout froze our butts off!! as soon as we left the truck i found the first shed, a nice brownie!! dad followed up with the next brownie. i had walked through to meet him and some how missed it. makes you wonder how many you walk by and never see. britneys first brownie was right along the road we drove in on and we never saw it till she was walking back to the ranger. from here i spotted one more small brown, i could just see the pedicle as we walked by, i was on my phone with my mom and looked over and could see the pedicle shining!! after this my dad spotted four horns across the way so i proceeded to hike down and across to pick em up. we found nine total four brown and five whites. beside the wind and snow and rain it was a good trip. enjoy mine my dads britneys find the horn
